Police identified the man who was shot and killed at Rogers Sports Pub on Friday night as a Norfolk man.
Raymond Davis, 21, was identified as one of three suspects involved in an attempted robbery at the sports bar on Bainbridge Boulevard, a Chesapeake police news release said.
WVEC-TV is reporting that a bar patron was also shot during the attempted robbery. The victim, whose identity was withheld, was taken to a hospital but was recovering.
Chesapeake police would not confirm that anyone else was injured in the shooting. Police also have not released any details about what led to the shooting.
Witnesses told WVEC that three people wearing masks entered the business. A customer went to his truck to get his gun and came back inside. WVEC reported that he was the person who shot and killed Davis after he refused to drop his gun.
Witnesses told WVEC that the customer who was shot threw pool sticks and billiard balls in an effort to distract the masked men.
Police said they were searching for two masked men who may have been driving in a light-colored Ford Taurus. Police did not say if they were armed.
The investigation is ongoing. Anyone with information is asked to call the Crime Line at 1-888-LOCK-U-UP (1-888-562-5887).
Oh, yeah, during the newscast, the quote, "Turning his life around" was used.
Thug killed by armed citizen ping.
I bet he never tries that again. God bless the Commonwealth.
I take it Mr. Davis was from Newport News?
Many years ago several of us were returning from a firing range. We were carrying openly (legal) and stopped at a bar. At the time that too was legal. A young man walked past all those Harleys and into the bar, pulled a pretty little 25 automatic and demanded money. The bartender pulled his shotgun and we pulled our handguns all large caliber.
The kid apologized and bought a couple rounds for us before we let him leave.
The WAVY report is vastly more informative:
A man, known as "Big Rob", chased the first robbery suspect out of the bar. It appears while he was in the parking lot, he went to his car and grabbed his gun. Big Rob then re-entered the bar and shot Davis.Yes, and he was turning his life around.
"The man went outside and came back in with his gun and shot him down," Shelia [Davis, grandmother to the deceadant] said. "It's like shooting a dog down. He is a human being."
LOL! So who had to mop up the puddle of piss he must have left on the floor?
Since when do dogs commit armed robbery?
Grandma says, ‘He tryin’ to turn his life around’
I think his pants were absorbent.
