I’m still praying and fasting weekly of Gov Perry, and I hope he makes some kind of breakthrough in SC. If he doesn’t, I’m thinking he might call it quits.

I know he is getting a lot of support and will stay in this fight for the nomination. The delegates are a strange situation this year with state penalties.

Mitt is vulnerable and that stupid stunt yesterday highlights his ineptitude.

Perry obviously struggled out of the gate, but he is a strong leader who could do a lot of good in DC

He will stay in and Florida can support him after SC

Sarah Palin (while saying it was a good catch for Santorum to get the evangelical nod yesterday) said this election is about JOBS.

Gov. Rick Perry is the JOBS candidate with all the other bonafides to boot.

I watched it and I can say he had the crowd clapping and very engaged. He was able to articulate states rights and talk about the EPA and how it is out of control. How the EPA has been affecting Texas and how he is for small govt.. He will get a bump from this I do believe.

Exactly. If we run scared from Romney and kill off the best candidates to satisfy the notion that Romney is unstoppable at 35%, we’ll take the flavor of the month that is already losing steam.

It will be hard for the MSM and Fox to give Gov. Perry fair coverage of this, as they have Mitt teed up to run against Obama.

Gov. Perry didn’t play “party politics” with the GOP establishment and he is being “punished” by the Bush-Rove machine. The party is making an example of him. Nicki Haley knows how the game is played.

Tea Party conservatives need to stand with Gov. Perry. He has been with them from the start and his executive record encompasses all they espouse.

The Florida straw poll protest vote for Herman Cain (after the debate) started this flavor of the month cycle.

Conservative voters need to hit the re-set button and rally for Perry against Romney and Paul. It would be a beautiful surge.

You are uninformed. Rick Perry is the first Texas governor to cut spending since WWII. There are close to 1300 people moving to Texas daily and that will add the need for services but the state has a favorable atmosphere for business -- low regulations, litigation and taxes. Almost half of all the jobs filled in the 50 United States happened in Texas.

We need to work on your passive-aggressive posting style. LoL You sound like the MSM -- every Perry article begins with at least 2 paragraphs recounting his early debates and discounting him before moving on to make some remark about the campaign.

Well, the first thing that went through my mind was to say, "Yes, Governor Perry did a very nice job of arranging those deck chairs on his Titanic campaign." Maybe I should have just gone with that response. I could have gone even further and noted that he didn't forget the third chair in any three chair arrangement of those deck chairs and didn't confuse the Interior chair with Education chair. I had thought that avoiding direct attacks after he had a good showing would be a nicer thing to do. I guess I was wrong.

The fact remains that Rick Perry showed early in the campaign that he doesn't have the right stuff for any higher office. He's better than Obama, but he has almost no chance of beating Obama. A guy who received 1% of the vote in New Hampshire, a state that has a chance of being a swing state, is a guy who will be very weak in the general election. He's really not that conservative, but his personality and accomplishments do not inspire confidence in swing voters. If our economy becomes significantly worse between now and November, he might have a chance. Otherwise, a general election campaign with Governor Perry would just give a few conservatives a chance to lose with their favorite.

Rick Perry had a good night. I'm happy for him. I hope the voters of South Carolina don't mistake one good night for being a good candidate.

Feel better?

I thought Santorum was probably the best he’s ever been in the debate. He seemed almost presidential and definitely had cogent, coherent and confident answers. Perry was same-old, same-old. No major gaffes, fine on policy but he seems uninspiring and out of his league.

Good point. He wasn't put on the spot like every single other candidate was last night with any tough or critical questions. Probably because, just like when Santorum was at the bottom of the polls, no one was focused on taking him down or asking tough questions since no one was seriously considering him and it just wasn't necessary.

A lady asked about folks getting laid off late in their life but not yet old enough to retire. Santorum actually blew it off by saying that the jobs needed to go to the young and that it is good that her friend (58) who was laid off had an IRA that she could cash out to start her own business. Then RS went on to say how nice SC is and that he and is wife love to come there for vacation. (now, if we think about it, the lady who was laid off probably can’t afford to travel for vacation. This shows how out of touch his answer is to the plight of the older people being laid off prior to age of retirement. Add to that the discussion about raising the age of retirement and that spells disaster.)

I like Perry as the candidate most likely to tear down the welfare state. Or make a good attempt at it. However, I shuddered when I read his comments attacking Romney about Bain capital. Gingrich backpedaled after his attack on Romney concerning Bain. I don’t know if Perry has. Lowered him in my estimation.

Gov. Perry is the JOBS candidate. He's 100% Capitalism. He's been pealing government regulations off free enterprise and installing tort reform -- stopping over-litigation on businesses. He's fought against the EPA dictates that Romney has embraced. He's fought the intrusion on our freedoms that Romney has signed into law. Perry should have something to say about what Romney has done - Obama sure will. And it is extremely telling that Romney refuses to release his tax returns.

Santorum is so boring and both RS and Mitt creeps me out.

Here read this: "Perry just killed it at the Huckabee Forum!! He was incredibly passionate and won over a lot of undecided voters in the Coliseum at the College of Charleston! I did my part as well after the forum. ;) We also had a terrific event this morning at the Okra Grill in Mount Pleasant. I worked every voter in that place and I can tell you we're about to surge through the Palmetto State. I was also able to recruit for CSU as I spoke to parents of high school parents. Ladies and gentlemen we're back in this thing and South Carolina is about to turn the tide for Rick Perry!!!!"

And this: Huckabee Forum!!!..Barbara Smith of Summerville said she thought she was going to support Newt Gingrich. But she was impressed that Perry was so lively and vibrant during the forum. "He threw a socket wrench into my decision-making today."

I think it was because that type of forum was in a more conducive for our candidates! It was a bit more relaxing, less formal, less combative, etc... The candidates could take their time and share their views with the people questioning them.

Gov. Huckabee was not giving them ‘gotcha’ questions w/only a few minutes to answer. He was friendly,(being from the same side)respectful, and didn’t bait them against each other! At least it seemed that way as far as I could tell.

He was letting the people w/questions ask, and the candidates had more time to answer. They didn’t have to stand there and argue w/each other! I didn’t get to watch Romney’s set, or Perry’s or Santorum’s, Paul’s. I did catch Huntsman’s and Gingrich’s segments. I think both of them had some impressive answers, actually!

So are the wallets of all the big-bucks Perry supporters who persistently underpay their illegal-immigrant employees.

"Flexibility" on payday for cash-strapped entrepreneurs is such a key element of free-market capitalism, you know.

It's nice to be able to "meet your payroll" by just making it smaller with a pencil-whip or 200.

What was that old parable, about the prudent servant? "Take 100 jars, and write sixty."

I'll bet the Tyson family and Bo Pilgrim could tell you to the penny, how much per pound of chicken Rick Perry has saved them in production costs, by supporting open borders and protecting them from prosecution on a host of labor-law and immigration-law charges.

I shuddered when I read his comments attacking Romney about Bain capital.

Actually, Perry's comments were fair game, and so is Romney's involvement in Bain. If Romney has a good answer, let him bring it.

Is Bain a venture-capital firm bursting with turnaround expertise ..... or are they a vulture fund, asset-strippers and economic termites who cheat creditors and retirees of their due, and shareholders of their equity?

It's a fair question. I don't know what the answer is, but I think Rush, Hannity, and other conservatives who attacked Perry for raising the charge on largely top-down theoretical grounds ("we DO NOT as Republican conservatives EVER EVER EVER criticize anything businessmen do to put money in their pockets" seemed to be what Hannity was saying) is a huge strategic error. You cannot win at politics, defending maggots like Michael Milken, Boone Pickens, Ken Lay, and other access-capitalists, greenmailers, and asset-stripping, self-dealing chiselers.

Agree. Placing the money men above criticism is tone deaf. I am a Christian and I cannot escape the words that Jesus directed at the rich. It seems that "rich" and "righteous" are usually at odds.

One does not need to be a wealth redistributing Marxist to see that something is wrong with the unbridled accumulation of massive wealth at the personal level.

I'm not saying that the bridle should be governmental coercion. Self restraint is what conservatives advocate.

Making a god of money is just as idolatrous as worshiping that rock in Mecca.

Whatever the sins or benefits of Bain capital, it really looked like Gingrich and Perry were grasping for something to attack the very attackable Romney with. I don’t know diddley squat about firms like Bain, but from comments I’ve read from people who know, Bain does a lot more good than bad. Even Gingrich backtracked from his previous criticisms of Romney concerning Bain. This has put conservatives like me, who don’t much like Romney, defending him from conservatives I do like, Gingrich and Perry. I want to tear my hair out or beat my head against a rock for defending Romney from far more conservative candidates. But it is what it is: Perry and Gingrich grandstanding and soundling like Chomsky or Nader in attacking a capitalist firm.
