The Hill ^ | January 13th

Democrats have taken the lead in a generic congressional ballot for the first time since being washed out of office by Republicans in the 2010 election, according to a Democracy Corps survey released Friday.

...

Fifty-three percent said they were increasingly displeased with Republicans in Congress, and the same amount said they were turned off by the increasingly contentious GOP presidential primary.

2012 really is shaping up as an odoriferous campaign. Hold-your-nose-time is coming, I fear. But I'm damned if I don't vote against the Usurper, even if the GOP runs Daffy Duck. And they just might.

Frankly, I think the American electorate is part of the problem. People say they want action on the deficit, but when you actually get down to the specifics, they punish the people trying to solve it. They also fall for the ploy that the Congress as “obstructionist” when it won’t go along with the President’s spendthrift policies.

Its kinda like the weak-minded storm trooper falling for the Jedi mind trick every time.

I don’t know about that either, ask Senator Lee or Senator Rubio. Clearly it was disappointing to see guys like Miller lose the the vacuous Murkowski, but you win some you lose some. I think in many cases the limp wristers look at what happened to Crist in Florida and Bennett in Utah and develop a spine out of fear of going the same way. As for Angle or O’Donnell, face facts, they were second raters at best. Had the GOP in Nevada found themselves another guy like Paul Laxalt instead of running Angle, he or she would be in the Senate rather than Reid. The lesson from that election is recruit more folks like Rubio and fewer like Angle.

don't get me wrong, the pubs are far superior to the rats, any day of the week and twice on sunday...but...

don't you think the establishment WANTS more regulation...more laws..more "departments" overseeing everything we do...

that way they can wring their hands over enviromental regulation or educational regulation or health regulations...."we can't do anything about it"..because of the law..

just like giving bamey a pass on these "recess" appointemts...believe me, there is a number of pubs who WANT more dictatorial power....they can raise money and campaign against it and we all donate and fall in line....

we're just like little puppets...sheeple....

Republicans always had some success in getting President's elected off and on since IKE. However, they were out in the cold for forty years until Newt and the contract with America.

Looks like the elites are happy to be exiled as long as they can get rid of conservative candidates. GOP E are driving their party into oblivion just as surely as Corzine destroyed MF Global.

Given the coming total leftist media barrage-(among other things)- it will be a miracle if the Republicans capture the Presidency and a minor miracle if Republicans hold onto the House.

I’m not worried at all about this poll, in January 2012 from a liberal polling firm. However, we will lose our advantage if we don’t control the message. The way to control the message is to make it straightforward and easy to communicate. This, fortunately, is not that difficult, but I’m not sure we’ve got the right people on point to do it.

The message needs to be about freedom. That word should be used over, and over, and over again. It needs to be pointed out to the public example after example after example of how their freedoms have been eroded.

From a social perspective conservatives need to emphasize a message that is consistent with the general theme of freedom. They need to point out that it is the left, and not conservatives who want to dictate to the rest of us how to live. They need to point out that although they champion free expression, and aren’t in favor of ‘banning’ anything, they believe in safe havens in society that protect the innocent, including most importantly the innocence of youth. They need to point out that the entertainment industry has lost its way to such an extent that parents can’t watch television with their children anymore without fear of what they might be exposed to. They need to point out that we have mortgaged our children’s futures in multiple ways - - by letting labor unions/teachers unions dictated policy to parents and school boards, by letting the entertainment industry act irresponsibly, by spending the nation into unprecedented debt.

These are just part of the things that the public is concerned about, and that we can use to discredit the left. I would also push the issue of freedom of choice in medicine. The list is long. I would also appeal to national pride. Make no mistake, the crashing of helicopters in the desert and the impression that the rest of the world didn’t respect us anymore played a big role in getting rid of Carter. A new ‘morning in America’ message, with a plan behind it to make it credible, would be well-received I think.

I truly believe that many people on this board could do a better job articulating an exciting message than many of the politicians we have out there now. It appears to me that they have become so encumbered by their attempts to find the right ‘form’ for their campaigns that they have forgotten that they need to concentrate on ‘substance’ and articulate a clear message.

“If Romney wins, we will get two more Souters.”

That’s scary, but not as scary a the wise latino and Kagan.

You just reminded me why I have to vote Romney if he becomes the nominee. AAAAArgh.

Maybe we can play the same trick that was played in the past only in reverse. Make sure someone convinces Romney to appoint a mainstream moderate who is actually a closet Conservative.

And if Angle was running against 2 weak guys who split the vote like Meek and Crist instead of the most powerful man in the Senate and in the state, she’d have won.

That election in NV was always going to be a tough one. Senate majority leaders don’t lose every day.

I don’t really think anyone else in NV would have done much better than she ended up doing.

Yup.

Anyone who’s resting on the laurels from 2010 is due for a harsh reality check come this November.

The GOP has failed to organize around a coherent ideological message since then. Too much systemic disarray between the Establishment vs. the Tea Party.

Nobody’s going to be able to wage a successful election this time premised around the excuse of, “well, at least we’re not Obama!”

“has killed our enthusiasm”

Not to mention a republican controlled house has out spent Nancy Pelosi and basically been a rubber stamp for Obama.

Whats the point in supporting these people. They have not earned a thing except for my disgust....

I loathe bonehead.

I loathe RINOmney.

I loath Newt.

And I’m very very close to loathing republicans in general.

Get conservative or go somewhere and die, establishment repubs.

The GOP House MUST start the year by doing what they should have done months ago: REMOVE JOHN BOEHNER.

I agree, but there are an awful lot of Republicans who are counting on it.
