Santorum: Obama would 'destroy' Romney in November
CNN ^ | January 15, 2011 | Peter Hamby

Posted on 01/15/2012 5:30:14 PM PST by Clintonfatigued

- Rick Santorum delivered a stark warning to South Carolina voters Saturday, telling them Mitt Romney is a sure loser in November if he becomes the Republican presidential nominee.

"Don't buy all this baloney that we need a moderate to win," Santorum told about 200 people gathered at Tommy's Country Ham House in Greenville. "We need someone with strong core convictions who is going to appeal to the voters in the states we need to win and that's not him. That's us."

Santorum, a former Pennsylvania senator, has trained his fire on Romney at stop after stop as he campaigns across the Palmetto State ahead of the January 21 primary.

But his sharp criticisms seemed to carry a fresh sense of urgency Saturday.

"The establishment is trying to ram down the people of South Carolina's and everybody else's throat Gov. Romney, as if he is inevitable," Santorum said.

He said Barack Obama would "destroy" Romney in the general election because he does not represent a "bold and courageous" contrast to the president.

Santorum cited the Romney-designed Massachusetts health care plan, which was a model for Obama's plan, as an example.

"Why would we pick someone who has had a record that as a liberal governor of Massachusetts to lead our country at a time we need fundamental change?" he asked.

Statement: "Santorum: Obama would 'destroy' Romney in November"

Response: I tend to agree.

Comment: How can Romney argue against "Obamacare" when Romney's Massachusetts program formed the basis of "The Divine One's" program. Further, Romney has taken so many positions similar to those taken by "The Divine One's" masters that Romney is a joke.

All Romney had going for him was that people saw him as “electable.”

That illusion is quickly being destroyed...and now, the emperor has no clothes.

So you don’t see any difference between Carter and Santorum? Really?

>>>Voting for Jimmy Carter is a huge regret I carry to this day, because Carter, socially conservtive but a fiscal liberal, believed and acted upon his belief in government solutions.<<<

Me too!

The difference is Carter was a liberal asshole, and Santorum is basically, a conservative.

His last election, the left made his entire race about how extreme he was with his views on abortion. It went on and on. This election will win about jobs. You get the country with the right person, and these moral issues will improve. You need a person who understands that 9 judges do not have more power than we, the people.

Why would anyone choose “Obama-lite” (Romney) when they could have the real thing?

Jimmy Carter seemed earnest enough, but didn’t have half a clue how things actually worked. How does the saying go, the road to hell is paved with good intentions?

Santorum a fiscal liberal? Stop listening to propaganda. I’m from Pa, and believe me, the guy’s a straight arrow. But, I’m afraid that even our own folks are too gullible to understand this in time. Bob

Santorum is younger, correct? You might want the younger one to be the heir apparent to the party candidacy 8 years hence.

Carter feigned social conservatism, and apparently even some of our own Freepers still accept this lie.

Just because Jimmuh didn’t go screaming in the streets for abortion (say) doesn’t mean he wasn’t ready to give looie social liberals what they wanted. And it’s fortunate he only got one term, looking at how he “bloomed” afterwards.

The left has already chosen Romney and it's only a short matter of time until he's anointed.

The proper response would be to immediately begin a new political party that is focused upon representing conservatives, IMO.

Since the Republican party is basically a “moderate” version of the Democrat party, it wouldn't take many election cycles to replace the GOP, IMO.

This is the only way to reverse the leftward course this country is traveling via the ballot box, IMO.

He’s also just a smidgen opposed to Roe vs Wade.

Carter was a big supporter of Roe. He was a moral relativist. Santorum is a firm objectivist. This is a gulf wide and broad.
