Hot Air questions the sampling, though.

If Gingrich and Perry would drop out and endorse Santorum, I’d be very happy.

FOX News polls are notoriously poor. I rather doubt that Mittens is at 40% at this juncture.

I have it on good authority that the people polled were all Fox employees...pass it on.

Fox News is bipolar my friend, they trash Romney one day, and give a poll in favor of him the next. As for this whole poll, IMO, it’s all about provocation, who would want to think that Romney is set to win, if it looks that way, plenty of people will stubbornly vote against him, because they don’t believe the poll, at least I will go for Santorum, regardless of the poll.

Hot Air questions the sampling, though.

Fox undersampled independents by 7-9%. However those voters would mostly accrue to Paul and not Mittens or Newt, so the lead is essentially the same. Gingrich's use of the disastrous "documentary" against Mittens has backfired big time.

Upside: Santorum is in 2nd.
Downside: A verrrrrry distant 2nd.

The conservatives could mount a serious challenge of Romney if they’d just friggin’ coalesce behind one single (Santorum/Gingrich/Perry) candidate already!

Any one of the three you mentioned would be okay with me. IOW, anybody but Obamney or Huntsman, and Huntsman is gone.

If correct, we will need every candidate to drop out and form around the main conservative to Beat Romney.

It’s 2008 all over again because too many conservatives got into the race.

Perry blew it on the debates and he is gone and needs to go , hell even Huntsman has seen the writing on the wall.

Newt and Rick need to get in talks and one of them DROP OUT AND STOP SPLITTING THE CONSERVATIVE VOTE.

Maybe promise the other they can have the VP spot but one thing is for sure, one of them HAS TO AND NEEDS TO GET OUT NOW TODAY, not wait till after FL get OUT NOW.

As for FOX, the socially liberal elitist north east establishment lot over there then obviously they have been on Romney’s pocket since the get go.

No fantasy here. FOX always has bad polls that generally are the outlier. RCP has Mittens at 31% even with this poll added. I will not believe that Milt is in the 40’s till we get some more credible polling in that direction.

Yeah, if anything the 40% is probably too low. Romney has been steadily rising in the last 3 national polls, and even this Fox poll still included 5% for Huntsman, 3-4% of which will go to Romney.

The problem is, not everyone agrees on who that main conservative is. Many of us cannot picture the Newt of the last few years as a conservative, others do not think Perry can hack it, and still others believe that Santorum has warts in his votes as well.

The RCP average is badly skewed by an older outlier CBS poll from 1/4-1/8 that had him at 19%.

The average of the last three polls from 1/10 forwards is 37%, with an average of 4% for Huntsman.

"Gingrich's use of the disastrous "documentary" against Mittens has backfired big time."

Of all the things he could've attacked Romney with, he had to choose that for some odd reason.
