I hope that you are speaking to Vinny. I agree with you.
Maria
"I agree with those who have said that in my first statement after I testified I was not contrite enough. I don't think there is a fancy way to say that I have sinned.
It is important to me that everybody who has been hurt know that the sorrow I feel is genuine: first and most important, my family; also my friends, my staff, my Cabinet, Monica Lewinsky and her family, and the American people. I have asked all for their forgiveness.
But I believe that to be forgiven, more than sorrow is required - at least two more things. First, genuine repentance - a determination to change and to repair breaches of my own making. I have repented. Second, what my bible calls a ''broken spirit''; an understanding that I must have God's help to be the person that I want to be; a willingness to give the very forgiveness I seek; a renunciation of the pride and the anger which cloud judgment, lead people to excuse and compare and to blame and complain."
“Incredible. Let he who is without sin... “
.....skip getting an annulment or two before running for president.
I don’t think anyone is arguing the forgiveness of sins, as much as the inevitable (and required) earthly accountability for them that goes along with it. I’m assuming Newt took care of that, too.
In politics, however there is no requirement to withhold stones, daggers, and hand-grenades for someone elses sins.
I wish Newt had gotten an annulment for all the marriages to liberal causes he’s entered into the past. We don’t really know what liberal mistresses he presently is boinking either - but he’s been spotted with sneaking around with that floozy “Amnesty”.
Spare me the sympathy for Callista. If she couldn’t handle the criticism of screwing a politician, she should have convinced him not to run for President. I’m thinking this is the only way she’ll ever obtain the title “Lady” in any form that didn’t involve also sleeping with Prince Charles - which I wouldn’t totally rule out if Newt doesn’t get the nomination.
What kind of filthy talk are you bringing to FR?
Why don’t you infidelity supporters and porn lovers start your own site to dirty up the world?
Do any of you remember how lovingly Newt talked about his current wife during the Republican Revolution while he betrayed and humiliated her while lying to get conservative votes?
If you people have no standards of behavior then what good are you and what good can you ever do in this world?
Then why were they discussing the candidates' wives? I'm a Santorum fan, and there was an equally odious piece earlier today about Rick's wife and a relationship she was in prior to meeting Santorum. We can't expect our eventual nominee to be a person of virtue, discretion, and sound judgment if those selecting him are not.
FYI
a small part of info on Calista-
“devoted Catholic, she is a member of the Choir of the Basilica of the National Shrine of the Immaculate Conception in Washington, D.C., a resident professional choir. In March of 2005, the Choir visited Rome, Italy to honor Pope John Paul II, and recorded a compact disc entitled Pope John Paul II: A Celebration of Life and Faith. In April of 2008, the Choir sang for the Holy Father, Pope Benedict XVI, during his Apostolic Journey to the United States. In November of 2008, the Choir participated in the International Festival of Sacred Music and Art in Rome, Italy.
Callista plays the French horn with the City of Fairfax Band in Fairfax, Virginia, promoting musical growth and education among area residents and students. The Band performs frequently in Fairfax, Virginia, and the Washington, D.C. area. The City of Fairfax Band is a recipient of the John Philip Sousa Foundation’s Sudler Silver Scroll Award. The Sudler Silver Scroll is regarded to be North America’s most prestigious award for community concert bands.
...Callista graduated Cum Laude and earned a Bachelor of Arts Degree in Music with a concentration in Public Communication from Luther College in Decorah, Iowa. While at Luther College, she was a Pi Kappa Lambda Member and Regents Scholar.”

Has ANYONE bothered to look this up? Is the media silent, hoping no one finds out how accomplished she is? It hardly fits their agenda, after all -
Yes, I certainly was. Sorry if I gave you the wrong impression.
Vin L thinks he can malign Regan by justifying Newt’s immoral behavior in contrast with Reagan?
(Bleep) that.
I am not disputing that personally Dobson is a sincere, great guy. I just think that someone who has a national audience must excercise discretion. Was he appointed to judge Calista? Did he really have to say that?
I certainly don’t want to be associated with any group that group that would formulate such seething, hateful comments.

Right...so your position is that no christian leader can never even say anything against immoral behavior by a woman in a high-publicity position or perhaps any woman because Jesus told Jews in the first century not to throw rocks at them.
Got it.
The media elites were much more supportive of Terri Schiavo’s husband and his mistress even when he pulled the plug on his ailing wife to be with his new gal.
Pretty far removed from Christan charity too - judgmental, sanctimonious -
Do you think, had Jesus been in the room, He would have approved of Dodaon doing this - or REproved?
Listen, if you dont like Ronnie and Nancy, just say so.
*******************
Nice try, in begging the question.
Inarguably, by Dobson’s religious morality, Reagan and Nancy would have been immoral. By my standards, the Reagan’s private life was not mine to judge. The same applies to “fallen woman” Calista. If Dobson wants Santorum, let him just say it. Nothing wrong with Rick. No need to throw stones at Calista, to bloody Newt. Anyway, that’s my view based on my Christian faith.
I'm not judging anyone, just saying.....
Please. Clinton has not truly repented. I can’t believe that you have offered that in sincerity. The man is a pig.
There's very little difference between a Pentecostal and a Baptist with the exception of the "tongues" thing. Shall I get into the warts now? Latham, Haggard, Camping........Tell you what, just send me a Love Offering and I'll send you a Prayer hankey and we can forget we ever had this conversation........Deal?
The Terri Shiavo incident haunts me to this day-—especially her husband’s taunt, “I kept my promise”. But, there’s a God in Heaven, and ultimately, this will be made right.
What good politically could come from Dobson’s comments? Politics, after all, is a practical endeavor.
“Callista plays the French horn “
This, I believe.
Funny how many Catholic FReepers are FReaking out over this alledged attack on the third Mrs. Newt.
But any mention of Karen? Oh. No. Cant have that. Entire threads with hundreds of replies get zotted.
A few facts.
First of all, Ronald Regan never had an affair while he was married. Second, Jane Wyman divorced him. Third, by any religious context - Catholic or Christian - Ronald had a “Scriptual divorce”. Fourth, your allegations that Nancy is/was immoral are crap. Fifth, you are a moron.
Go away.
Is Dobson an anointed leader ? NO.shalom b'SHEM Yah'shua HaMashiachIs he a leader in a political party NO.
He just a loud mouth SINNER.
If he were a follower of the Messiah
he would have followed scripture
concerning Gingrich.Public sinners like Dobson need to be shunned.
He does this every election cycle for his own personal PRIDE.
Unless you have a source that says it is not true, you ought to quit slinging insults around. I've read this account from more than just Politico.
If Dobson said this as is reported, he is revealing himself as a little less than a good Christian conservative.
I think Dobson’s comments are more appropriate for a Pharisee than for Jesus.
The McCains were a different story, as are the Gingrichs. And the 23-year age difference is there as well.
PROOF?
It’s common knowledge.
It’s common knowledge.
You would have had to have seen that thread to understand. It’s a lot like this thread, though. Battle lines are drawn based on faith.

************
Jesus told Jews??? That’s curious.
But, in direct response to your reply, you or any Christian leader can say or judge as you please- but our Lord Jesus Christ told us one should only caste the first stone if one is without sin.
Perhaps, you’re a qualified sinless stone thrower. Good for you. I don’t think Dobson is. But if you wish to stand in judgment of Calista as a First Lady based on her love for Newt, that’s your privilege.
Not sure what you mean by this.
Dobson is looked to by millions of christians and respected for his work in ministry and on the radio over the course of decades.
You may not like him but many do respect and seek out his opinion on issues.
I stand by the Idiot FReepers remark. Just look at the nasty comment # 2 and tell me if this isn’t an intolerant knee jerk reaction.
I do not give a damn about his personal life past. What I do care about is what he will do with the country from here on out.
The problem is that trying to separate one's actions in personal and political matters is a false dichotomy. One's character is shown when a choice costs you something. The relationship between a husband and wife is one of the most intimate of all human relationships. Mr. Gingrich's serial adultery shows he is willing to toss his closest human relationship under the bus when it serves his interest. Just what gives you confidence that he will put your interests and mine and those of our neighbors at least on par with his own if there is a time to choose as president? I used to have great respect for Mr. Gingrich but he has shown me that he will say/do anything to serve his own interests. I have no confidence in his integrity. You are, of course, free to disagree. My point is that some of us believe we have good reason to want a principled conservative other than Mr. Gingrich.
I have no problem with all the background info as long as it is for ALL the candidates
Individual voters can decide what is pertinent and what isn’t when it comes to being president
Battle lines should never be drawn based on faith. They should be drawn on principles, values and ethics. All good men should stand together.
Why would that be curious?
one should only caste the first stone if one is without sin.
I really don't see any rock in Dobson's hand. I see him articulate an opinion about character which christians do every day...and should. Sounds like you're all for gay marriage, eh?
By the same token, it sounds like you're casting stones at Dobson. Sinless are you?
I’ll take an eight year mistress compared to the First Wookie we have now.
“You may not like him but many do respect and seek out his opinion on issues.”
There are always useful idiots falling for a hypocrite charlatan...Baker, Swaggart, Dobson.
She can sing in all the choirs in the world and she is still Newts mistress.
Thanks!
We’re not electing a First Lady, we’re electing a President. If what you’re looking for is a nice happy family in the White House, you’ve already got it, so reelect B.O.
I have been pretty tough on Newt around here, but the alternative to one of our imperfect people running is Barack Hussein Obama.
From what I know, his family guy act is an act.
We don’t have a perfect human in this race. All of them have certain things I could complain about.
This time, we need a person who wants to save the country. I don’t really know who that is, nor do I trust them, but we can do better than we have now.
Swaggert, Baker...yes they were hypocrites.
Fine - You beleive you have the right to judge others past mistakes? now let’s hear your sanctimonious take on THIS woman?
