The Anti-Jobs President (Obama rejects the Keystone XL pipeline and blames Congress)
WSJ ^ | 1-18-2012

Posted on 01/18/2012 4:58:03 PM PST by Dysart

The central conflict of the Obama Presidency has been between the jobs and growth crisis he inherited and the President's hell-for-leather pursuit of his larger social-policy ambitions. The tragedy is that the economic recovery has been so lackluster because the second impulse keeps winning.

Yesterday came proof positive with the White House's repudiation of the Keystone XL pipeline, TransCanada's $7 billion shovel-ready project that would support tens of thousands of jobs if only it could get the requisite U.S. permits. Those jobs, apparently, can wait.

Unless the President objected, December's payroll tax deal gave TransCanada the go-ahead in February to start building the pipeline, which would travel 1,661 miles from Alberta to interconnections in Oklahoma and then carry Canadian crude to U.S. refiners on the Gulf Coast.

The State Department, which presides over the Keystone XL review because it would cross the 49th parallel, claimed yesterday that the two-month Congressional deadline was too tight "for the President to determine whether the Keystone XL pipeline is in the national interest." The White House also issued a statement denouncing Congress's "rushed and arbitrary deadline," which merely passed with overwhelming bipartisan support.

This is, to put it politely, a crock.

Of all the traitorous actions by Obama, this one is the most vile and damaging. I'm not gonna sugarcoat it--I am angry about this action. Here is a President of a nation that is suffering economically and along comes a hope for tens of thousands of jobs (by most accurate estimates) with an opportunity to decrease dependence upon M.E. energy sources, and he instead throws a political bone to a faction of his base to the great detriment of the nation as a whole. And in true Obama deception/immaturity blames Congress for his crime.

Don't you realize that Obama's an international person with a fondness towards muzzie nations.

Bringing down the USA will make him the most welcomed man in the world. He will be able to live safely just about anywhere in the world once he is done turning the USA into what Al Qaeda had failed to turn us into.

Just listen to that reverend preacher of his. THAT is the America (AmeriKKKa) Obama knows.

Obama HATES this nation.

There is NOTHING. Absolutely NOTHING this man has done since 2008 that was to benefit this nation.

I don't think it should be a political issue but... follow the birth certificate and other documents he hides. The truth is there. The truth also lies in his accomplishments.

America Haters +10

America -10

That's the score after only 3 years.

Blame Congress is going to be Obama theme until election night. Obama always needs someone else he can blame other than himself.

Blame shifting, envy and playing the Race Card will be his three-point prong attack against the Republicans. This is on the level of teenagers. I imagine that this is the maturity level of their target set of voters.

Yes, he will play the blame game and in this instance he’ll depend on an ignorant voting public. The necessity and intricacies of tying together Keystone with the payroll tax cut issue will soar right over the heads of literally most people. And when he says it’s Congress’s fault, too many will actually believe him.

“He just signed his retirement papers.”

I think they’re so sure of his re-election chances they’re going to let him start cruising the Chicago gay bathhouses again.

What is obamas authority to blOck the pipeline? Can’t congress pass a law that calls for the pipeline, or defund the state department for blocking th pipeline?

I never watch the network news, but I was briefly in a place of business tonight that had the ABC nightly news on and they were featuring this story. I might as well have been watching the Airstrip One Evening News. No mention of criticism at all, only that the pipeline was in an unspecified “environmentally sensitive” area, and that “the Republican governor of Nebraska” also supports the decision. You’d never know there was a controversy at all.

I saw it ABC News tonight as well and I was yelling at my TV during that segment. I won't repeat it here.

Indeed, they soft peddled any POTENTIAL negatives that could possibly be associated with axing the project. Not only that, they vastly underreported the jobs not realized associated with it. The number you hear most often is 20k, but the real impact in terms of numbers is around 200k owing to unaccounted for support roles, transportation, maintenance and the like. The conveniently omit these things. It is so much propaganda.

I believe he will be reelected quite easily. There are way too many stupid people in this country to be able to see through this A-holes lies.

His blaming everyone else especially Congress will work like a charm. And if he has to face Mittens in the general, he'll be able to pocket most of his campaign mula since Mittens will be easy pickens for the media and debating.

Keystone will go down the memory hole by St. Patrick's day at best.

Here is a President of a nation that is suffering economically and along comes a hope for tens of thousands of jobs (by most accurate estimates) with an opportunity to decrease dependence upon M.E. energy source

I don't think it's just tens of thousands of jobs. Perry got a $2 billion investment from China's national oil company to invest in Texas oil fields, and it's worth at least 20,000 jobs. I'm reposting this again - a great contrast to Obama who ships jobs overseas while Perry brings overseas money here to employee Americans in the oil and gas industry.

Perry made a trip to China in 2010 and strongly encouraged the Chinese to invest in Texas' oil and gas industry and they did. To the tune of $2 billion being invested in Texas oilfields. This video was recorded not long after he made the trip to China - he talks about the trip around 9:40 into the video:

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=MgjFXCcz2g4

The result?

http://www.chron.com/business/energy/article/Move-by-Chinese-to-lift-S-Texas-boom-to-new-high-1617593.php

China's national oil company, CNOOC, will spend $2.2 billion to drill in partnership with Chesapeake Energy Corp. in the Eagle Ford shale, a rich oil and gas formation that lies under 11 counties.

Exploration in the Eagle Ford already has brought newfound prosperity to South Texas' hardscrabble farming and cattle country, and Chesapeake said the ramped-up drilling could bring 20,000 jobs to the region.

See these boots that Perry gave the Chinese foreign minister on his trip to China?

Think of each one of those boots representing a $1 billion investment in Texas oilfield, or 10,000 jobs. And there is more to it than that - he also got the Chinese to invest $1 billion into a pipe manufacturing facility in Texas.

It didn't happen overnight either. Perry worked for months on getting the Chinese to invest.

This is Perry hosting a reception with the Chinese Consulate General of Houston a few months before he made his trip to China and laying the groundwork for Chinese investments:

While other candidates have talked about trade wars with China, Perry went to China and brought back Chinese investments. Perry talks about his foreign relations experience with Mexico, but he really should be talking about his foreign relations experience with China.

Did Obama go over to China and get them to invest billions in our oil and gas industry? I don't think so. He's only interested in shipping jobs to China and getting rid of American jobs in the oil and gas industry and increasing our reliance on Arab oil. Perry brought Chinese money here to create American jobs.

Why does this surprise you?

obama was put in the White House for the sole purpose to destroy the United States botheconomically and morally. Thus far he is doing an excellent job of that.

Stuff such this is what every son of a bitch that voted for him voted for.
