Rick Santorum has ended up 34 votes ahead of Mitt Romney after a recount of the results from the Jan. 3 Iowa Republican presidential caucuses, The Des Moines Register is reporting.

But, the newspaper adds, Iowa GOP officials say that results from eight of Iowa's 1,774 precincts "will never be certified" because they're missing — meaning the outcome remains basically unresolved, as the Register's headline says. Or, as one Republican official tells the Register, it's going to be viewed as a "split decision."

Now that the truth is out about the 'HISTORIC WIN' for Romney does it matter?

You bet it does but it also shows that Iowa was in the tank for Romney and STILL is because they claim it is NOW a tie between Romney and Santorum...a TIE?

Well why do they say it is NOW a tie because there some precincts that will never be counted when the same facts existed when they claimed Romney was called the winner by just eight votes?

Romney has only won the state where he was expected to.

No historic! No sweep!

The only thing Romney did in Iowa is take an undeserved victory lap.

Chico Marx in Animal Crackers describes the MSM selection process by redoing a selection game until Harpo is the one selected. Can’t find the clip, unfortunately.

No. It only matters as a technicality now for those who like to keep score. It would have mattered more had this been revealed on Jan 3rd. It could have given Santorum a bigger and more sustained bounce (although I don't think it would have lasted much longer than it did). Too late now. Romney already reaped most of the benefits of the media hype and headlines back when it mattered.

[Infuriating, isn’t it?]

Iowa is now become just a ‘pay no mind state’ and I’m lovin’ it.

Agreed.

If it affects anything at all, it might slightly drop some of Romney’s support because it damages the “inevitable nominee” narrative, but I don’t think Santorum will get much out of it.

Yeah, few things of political importance come to mind where the IC is concerned. The "Dean Scream" was one. Obama's "upset" over Hillary was pretty big.

If those voters knew then what they know now about Obama, would they do it again?

Probably.

[No. It only matters as a technicality...]

TECHNICALITY? All we have been hearing on all the media is that Romney’s win in Iowa and New Hampshire was HISTORIC and now that has been debunked and you view it a mere technicality?

He sure will. As a matter of fact he will have won one state and Mitt will have won another and Newt will have had a 4th and 5th place finish. Newt is also fixin to get hammered by the press tonight. Something about trading influence as Speaker to get Iraqi arms embargo lifted for 10 million. WaPo has the story and his wife is on with ABC tonight because she was the contact to get it done.

We should thank God once again we didn't back such a weak horse and get hammered in Oct. with it.

So where are all the people that ragged on us that said the state was full of idiots?

I recall all types of talk about how we were being “elitists” for thinking that Iowa was a poor choice to hold anything first.

This should queue up the “Destroy Santorum” machine on the left. Wonder what it will be? Maybe he had affairs with Newt’s wife in 1997 in exchange for oil rights in Bangladesh.

BOY!!! Those pesky recounts, huh?

I live in WI; no vote is truly over until at least three recounts, five court mandated challenges, at least two take-overs of the state capitol, and four full re-call elections are held. So it takes a few years!!! So it costs five times as much as the original vote? So what?

Remember: this IS Wisconsin!

Just a side note....seems this only happens in WI when the rinos have the state government controls. When the libs do, nary a word is heard from the rinos.

Coincidence?

I’m so sick of this. Just wait until the general when we likely will question the results of dozens of states ..it could result in total chaos.

With all the technology we have and we still can’t count the frigging votes right???? Oh, but our good old IRS can count every penny if we owe them anything.

That “trading influence for $10mil to get Iraqi arms embargo lifted” is a non-story:
