BREAKING: New Rasmussen poll now has Gingrich leading Romney in S.C.
Rasmussen Reports ^ | Thursday, January 19, 2012 | Rasmussen

Posted on 01/19/2012 9:14:19 AM PST by DestroyLiberalism

Former House Speaker Newt Gingrich has now surged ahead of Mitt Romney in the final Rasmussen Reports survey of the South Carolina Republican Primary race with the vote just two days away.

The latest telephone survey of Likely GOP Primary Voters in the state finds Gingrich with 33% support to Romney’s 31%. Two days ago, before the last debate, it was Romney by 14 percentage points.

Texas Congressman Ron Paul now runs third with 15% of the vote, followed by former U.S. Senator Rick Santorum at 11%. Paul's support is steady while Santorum's support has dropped five points since Monday. At the beginning of the month, just after Santorum’s strong showing in the Iowa caucuses, he ran second to Romney with 24% of the vote.

Texas Governor Rick Perry continues to run last with two percent (2%) support. He has dropped out of the race today and endorsed Gingrich. One percent (1%) of likely primary voters like some other candidate in the contest, and six percent (6%) remain undecided. (To see survey question wording, click here.)

The new findings come following Gingrich’s strong performance in a debate in Myrtle Beach, S.C. Monday night. Sarah Palin also signaled support for Gingrich which could have a significant impact in South Carolina. Two years ago, her endorsement of Nikki Haley transformed the race for governor. Ironically, now that Haley is governor, she has endorsed Romney while Palin is backing Gingrich for the moment.

The candidates will debate again in South Carolina this evening.

The race for the Republican presidential nomination is now nearly even nationally with Romney still on top with 30% support but Gingrich just three points behind at 27%. Santorum who was running second has dropped to 15%.

I believe Perry’s endorsement of Gingrich might start others looking at Santorum’s 11% behind Paul and have them begin movement toward the Gingrich camp.

and thus the very reason for Marrianne's interview airing tonight.

Newt won big the other night, has all the positive momentum and the combination of Palin's psuedo-endorsement and now Perry's endorsement all point toward Conservatives coalescing around Newt.

TPTB both Obama and GOP-E know that Newt is in position to grab all of Santorum's support and put Romney away, so they are firing the biggest shot they can right now in an attempt to scare away the evangelicals that are the core of Santorum's support. They also are hoping the interview will take any additional air out of the room that Newt might get from another dominant performance tonight.

I fully expect that CNN will try and be cute and will hit Newt full force with stuff about fidelty etc in an attempt to pile on and get him off his game.

In that regard tonight is THE pivotal night of 2012 - PERIOD! If Newt comes out firing and fights off the Marrianne interview and then dominates the rest of the debate it will be game, set, match on Romney.

Tonight will decide the Republican Nominee and the path of this country forward as a Constitutional Republic or a Socialist cesspool -- the vote Saturday night will just cement it.

No one supports Newt Gingrich for his family values. We knew about his marital history and his gay sister, as well. There is not much about Newt that the media hasn’t exposed.

A Gingich/ Santorum ticket would be a great way to balance the ticket, Newt for the economy and jobs and Santorum for his family values. They could make an agreement for the VP to deal with the social issues, while the President deals with the economy.

I think that it sounds like a winning plan.

If you liked the "Presidency of Bob Dole" you will also like the Presidency of Mitt Romney.

Now there’s a face that would endear any guy. NOT! If that’s what she looks like during the interview she’s not going to get much sympathy imo. Newt might just garner some sympathy.

Your list of actions represent what Ron Paul is actually going to DO.

Yeah, like all the stuff RuPaul has done as Chair of the Subcommittee on Domestic Monetary Policy and Technology?

Like, nothing?

Face it, Paul is a windbag. Something all but Paultards figured out long ago. But then again, that's why they are still Paultards.

Santorum went negative huge on Gingrich. It changed a lot of people’s minds about him. I heard the same thing about paul as well.

Gee...what timing. Newt announced he was running for President almost a year ago, yet ex-wife #2 waits until the eve of the South Carolina primary to decry his lack of moral character. Why not sit down with the WaPo before Iowa or New Hampshire? Well, Mitt’s Super PAC did the dirty work in the Hawkeye State and there isn’t much of an evangelical voter bloc in New Hampshire.

So the former Mrs. Gingrich grants her interviews before a primary where Newt is surging and the evangelical vote is critical. Wonder what sort of “arrangements” were made to get her to speak up at such an opportune moment (for her, the media, and a certain former governor of Massachusetts).

...To be honest, it pains me to say this but I was a HUGE Santorum supporter and still would like him to be President someday, but it is Newt’s to lose and the least I can do is support him...

I am also a huge SANTORUM supporter... and I love if nothing else, that he got a chance to be noticed and not ignored 100% as Hunter was the last time around and I went down with ship supporting him...

THIS TIME THOUGH... I have to compromise too... I WILL VOTE FOR NEWT... Simply because the current OHOMO is turning out to be a real SATAN!...supporting the queers and their deprave life style... even worse than I thought. OHOMO MUST BE DEFEATED and I can "live" with Newt even thought is not a "saint" (like Rick :). RICK will keep going to bigger and better things... this man is not finished by any means... We need GOOD GUYS like that in this country... GO SANTORUM!..

So, don't feel bad!!!

Larry Sabato thinks Perry’s endorsement will get Newt 5-6 pts. even though Perry is polling lower than that. That is what he said on FNC.

It makes sense to me. Many wanted Perry at first but then ran scared at his horrible debating performances.

So they were thinking Newt has too much baggage...I guess Santorum is the only person I can stomach but he has no chance of winning.

So now that Perry said Newt is good and that he forgives him...they reflect upon themselves and go to Newt.

I don’t know about you, but this personal life crap is getting old and smelly.

I refuse to let the MSM pick my nominee.

Also in light of Iowa Only having 120,000 people vote in a non binding beauty contest shouldn’t have very much to so with our nominee.

And in NH only 47% of the votes in our primary were republican. Why should they have so much influence.

This would be a good time for Paul to get out. He would become a party hero because we might be able to see where his voters are going....besides hell.

No, that was all part of the staging by ABC. No make-up, bad lighting, and frumpy clothes, all designed to make Marianne look like the victim.

Can’t prove it, but I’m guessing the former Mrs. Gingrich has a bank account in the Caymans that’s gained a few more zeroes at the end of her balance.

How come last week when the same polling showed Romney with a healthy lead, the storyline here was “Rassmussen polling cannot be trusted.” Now that the polling has flipped, is Rassmussen suddenly reliable?

“Santorum at 11%”

Seems a great awakening for the Santorum folks has occurred.

Will Santorum be as eloquent and graceful when he drops out, as Perry most certainly was?

GO NEWT GO......President Newt Gingrich, it’s going to happen.
