"I've been talking quietly to the most powerful, I think, conservative movers-and-shakers in Washington over the past couple weeks, trying to get their read. Are we really going down this path? Every single one I've spoken to is trying to figure out a way to get to a brokered convention."
That was Joe Scarborough on Morning Joe today. For good measure, Scarborough also stated as a simple fact that Sarah Palin wants a brokered convention.

Scarborough says he’s spoken to top conservatives and all want a brokered convention. He also states as fact that Sarah Palin wants a brokered convention. Your thoughts? Ping to Today show list.
I wouldn't believe a word out of that jackoff’s mouth.
*sigh*
*facepalm*
Does anyone really think that Joe Scarborough is a conservative or even in contact with party leaders?
Sarah Palin’s time came and went. Put her on the VP ticket if necessary, but a brokered convention would be nothing more than theater of the absurd.
Real Conservatives tell me they wish you would admit you’re a Liberal suck up.
I wonder who would come out as the nominee from a brokered convention.
I doubt that anyone has talked to morning joe.
Mika should sit so close to him...he has a violent temper...just ask the family of his late aide.
Joe is a sell out - i don’t believe his arrogant rantings.
This is bullshit.
A brokered convention is a fantasy. It is simply not possible. People who are saying they want a brokered convention are just stalling, waiting for something to happen. I would dare say that most are just waiting for Romney to sew things up, so they can be forced to accept what the wanted all along.
The only way to avoid Romney is to beat him in the primaries. Any fantasy of a brokered convention that distracts from that immediate goal just serves to seal the deal.
Works for me :-)
"Romney. Romney. Romney. Romney. Romney.(yada yada) ...
Ignore that Romney DEFIED the Mass Constitution and instituted
GAY MARRIAGE without authority.
Ignore that Romney INITIATED RomneyCARE/ObamaCARE.
Ignore that Romney covered up the BIG DIG.
Ignore that Romney RAN Mass into the ground."
"As U.S. real output grew 13 percent between 2002 and 2006, Massachusetts trailed at 9 percent.
* Manufacturing employment fell 7 percent nationwide those years, but sank 14 percent under Romney, placing Massachusetts 48th among the states.
* Between fall 2003 and autumn 2006, U.S. job growth averaged 5.4 percent, nearly three times Massachusetts' anemic 1.9 percent pace.
* While 8 million Americans over age 16 found work between 2002 and 2006, the number of employed Massachusetts residents actually declined by 8,500 during those years.
"Massachusetts was the only state to have failed to post any gain in its pool of employed residents," professors Sum and McLaughlin concluded.
In an April 2003 meeting with the Massachusetts congressional delegation in Washington, Romney failed to endorse President Bush's $726 billion tax-cut proposal."

Since when do conservatives talk to Joe Scarborough? Or put another way, how low is the bar to define a conservative the way Scarborough does?
I think it’s more likely that the establishment Republicans are hankering for a brokered convention. Their man Mitt is losing his luster so now they’ve got Mitch Daniels warming up in the bullpen. They’ll do whatever it takes to maintain the status quo.
History is full of events that people thought were impossible :-)
Right, the same Weakly Standard conservatives who wanted Christie, Jeb, Daniels, etc. once it became clear Myth can’t crack 30%. The only thing worse than Romney being the nominee would be if the party hacks were able to select some bloodless suit who didn’t have the drive to run for it in the first place.
The Republican Establishment's power brokers might want a brokered convention, but I would not make the mistake of calling them "top conservatives".
A brokered convention allows the "movers and shakers" to trade favors and would most likely anoint Mitt.
Translation: The Country Club is getting scared of Gingrich.
Pray for America
I had hopes for Herman Cain, but he folded after the first attacks. Big disappointment. The major difference between being a businessman and a conservative politician is that most businessmen do not have to get used to large segments of the population actively hating them, with a significant percentage wanting their deaths, and lots of people (paid and unpaid) digging through your present and past for anything that could be used to destroy you.
Say what you want about Newt not being perfect. One thing we do know about him is that he has survived many years of being the object of Leftist HATE, and is still a fighter. Also, I think that what they're throwing at him right now may be all they've got. If they had worse stuff on Newt's past, somebody would have dug it up and used it before.
The other candidates have not been subject to HATE on that level, and so are untested.
Is the term “brokered convention” synonymous with letting the delegates decide who to represent the Republican Party and be on the ticket as President and Vice-President?
If so, what’s so bad about that that?
Anyway, I doubt doubt very much establishment Republicans are hankering for that.
Mika always looks like she just sucked a lemon.
What in hell is a brokered convention ?
We have played 2 downs in a fifty down games, wish the whinny one would shut up and pay ball or get on the bench, like perry. That applies to you newt.
it’s when no body gets a majority of the delegates outright, and the insiders go into a room basically and pick who will be the nominee. And they can pick ANYONE even someone who didn’t run.
If Santorum finally emerges as unequivocal front runner I don’t think there will be a brokered convention.
However, if the national GOP winds up forcing Romney, Gingrich or Paul on the ticket I believe there is at least an 80% chance the convention will be brokered. Red state GOP leaders understand Washington is killing the states from just about any perspective one can imagine. They understand Marxist-demrat-controlled RINOs are not the solution, they are part of the problem. They also understand Paul is a first order loon and will not support him.
What exactly is a brokered convention? Is that a good thing or a bad thing?
Joe’s too often a second-rate water carrier for the GOP RINO Establishment, and he mixes two groups here: the RINO and conservative ‘Establishments’.
But there is something to the Jeb/Mitch/Chris C. wing of the party having doubts about Romney and seeing a possible chance to slip in one of their guys instead. Coalition: Mitt delegates and ex officio delegates.
Then there’s also the tea party, conservative insurgent block. They are backing Newt now and they did miss the boat in getting a viable, real small government type on the ballot. Their potential block: Newt and Santorum delegates and, if they go with a Palin type, Paul delegates as well.
Strangely, there’s an incentive and hope for both camps looking to the convention. Usually there’s ungrounded chatter about the possibility of a brokered convention, but this is at least a little bit different in that both major wings of the party have some interest and hope in it.
It’s still something of a long-shot, but there’s more there there than the usual.
The Republican party had a brokered convention in 1952 and nearly had one in 1976. It may be unlikely but it is possible.
“The only thing worse than Romney being the nominee would be if the party hacks were able to select some bloodless suit who didnt have the drive to run for it in the first place.”
Mitch Daniels?
Actually this is a year when a brokered convention is a real possibility. It all depends on how many delegates Ron Paul collects and how close the Gingrich-Romney race becomes.
If Romney and Newt end up with, for example, 48% and 49% of the delegates and Ron Paul has the remaining 3% then he could swing the vote one way or the other. I know it's a scary thought but there is at least a possibility that Ron Paul will get to pick our nominee for us.
Hardly.
For this election cycle. I’m not saying she doesn’t have a future in national politics, but not this go around.
I know it’s a scary thought but there is at least a possibility that Ron Paul will get to pick our nominee for us.
_________
I believe that’s why Palin was saying to stop being so crude to Paul. The right Republican candidate could get a lot of support—delegate wise—from Paul. No one has to agree with him on anything..but Palin said we need to respect him and his supporters..she usually doesn’t say stuff needlessly. No one was listening then..hope they start now. I believe Paul supporters would go to Palin..not so much for Newt or Santorum at this point.
The guy is on the liberal network. Just a bunch of baloney. Believe anything from that network at your own peril.
Yep. There are times when Myth makes my skin crawl, but I have to at least give him credit for knowing what he wants and going for it. Running for president is a gruelling process as we've seen, which is appropriate for someone seeking the presidency. Pickong someone who didn't go through that to run against Obama would be like picking a college quarterback to play in the Superbowl.
Rockefeller wing of the GOP has many ways to shaft conservatives. GOP E can't stand that their boy mittens is losing to conservatives. They'll do anything to prevent another conservative elected. They did NOT like Reagan.
He’s right, I do.
Who should we pick?
And they can pick ANYONE even someone who didnt run.
Yup
There. Fixed it.
I choose Newt and I advocate we rally around him to PREVENT a brokered convention....the only group that wins that one are the establishment RINOs and Romney.
I tend to agree, but not 100%. Remember, this is politics, and in politics, ‘anything’ can happen.
Here’s a thought: What if delegates channel their inner founding father, go rogue, and pick someone the party ain’t shoving down their throats? I know most delegates are probably party apparatchiks and loyalists, but excrement flows down hill, and being a tiny cog on a big wheel won’t save them from the impending disaster.
in my opinion the most likely outcome from that would be them just picking Romney.
BUT
I could see them picking someone like Jeb out of the blue too. It would be crazy.
In other words...
they want to pick Romney no matter what their party members say.
Even the worst of those folks could pick a better candidate. Even if they picked a moderate like Chris Christie he'd be more conservative and more electable by far than either Mitt or Newt.
