Skip to comments.Palin Factor Starts To Emerge in GOP Race

Who is the leader of the Not-Romney movement within todays GOP?
Is it Newt Gingrich, whose surge in the South Carolina opinion polls puts him within striking distance of front-runner Mitt in tomorrows vote?
Is it Ron Paul, whose dedicated core of hard-money but isolationist supporters gives him 15 to 20% in every Republican contest?
Or is it Rick Santorum, recently endorsed by a raft of Christian evangelical leaders?
For my dollar, the leader is Sarah Palin, whose endorsements continue to carry more weight among conservatives than any other national figure and who is well-positioned to play a king-making role in the 2012 elections similar to her Mama Grizzly performance guiding the Republican surge in 2010.
How did this happen? Shes not running. Shes in Alaska. Since declaring herself a non-candidate at the beginning of October, Mrs. Palin has kept a pretty low profile.
Until recently, her main contribution to the political discourse was castigation of Congressional insider trading,a practice exposed by one of her SarahPac advisors, Hudson Institute fellow Peter Schweitzer, in a new book called Throw Them All Out. That expose gave rise to competing Congressional reform bills, the best of which would make it illegal for Federal legislators to routinely do what Raj Rajaratnam.
Before that, at a much-noted speech to Iowa Tea Partiers back in August, Mrs. Palin the political wordsmith injected crony capitalism into the public discussion. That phrase has captured the corrupt connivance between Big Business and Big Government which challenged the anti-business protestations of the Occupy crowd....

The only way to shift this thread from the ensuing vitriol for Sarah Palin.... mention Joe Paterno.
“The only way to shift this thread from the ensuing vitriol for Sarah Palin.... mention Joe Paterno. “
Good advice. Thanks
I bet tonight when Palin is giving her take she will make that clearer.
Allen West would be GREAT! Rubio is ineligible since he is not a Natural Born Citizen.
“........But no person constitutionally ineligible to the office of President shall be eligible to that of Vice-President of the United States.”
U.S. Constitution: Article II, Section 1, Clause 5.
“No person except a natural born Citizen, or a Citizen of the United States, at the time of the Adoption of this Constitution, shall be eligible to the Office of President; neither shall any Person be eligible to that Office who shall not have attained to the Age of thirty-five Years, and been fourteen Years a Resident within the United States.”
Good guys or bad guys alike, we MUST stand up for the Constitution. Don't like it? AMEND IT. Until then it is the supreme law of the land.
HUH? you know this how?
No inside knowledge, I started to write she would have chosen whoever was running close to Romney but then there is Paul.
She's endorsing both?...I didn't know Chuck was running for anything.
Being from Alaska with a STRONG outdoors interest, that would much more be her passion.
She'd hit 2 birds with one stone. Improve REAL environmental issues and improve our energy.
“that kinda, sorta” endorsement seems to have had an impact in South Carolina today based on my conversation with people.....it did on me....I couldn’t make up my mind between Newt or Santorum....
It was actually all of the above for myself and others I talked to. His debate skills plus her statement (which sounded like an endorsement to me). Until then a toss up between Santorum and Newt.
“I await your thoughts..”
You probably don’t want mine. Sarah was originally my candidate of choice, but she chose not to run. CHOSE. NOT. TO. RUN. Yet I’m still waiting for people to get the crap over her already and order from the menu we have.
She was never a declared candidate so there was nothing to drop out of.
Thanks. Her power was in the timing. She hit just as people were rocking back and forth between Santorum and Newt. It was a tough call, and I think that a lot of people deferred to her on this one.
That is now cleared up!
When Sarah said she would vote for Gingrich if she lived in South Carolina, she added that she didn’t want to see the nomination process decided too early.
That tells me she WANTS a brokered convention. And she could win the whole thing, IMHO, if they drafted her for the GOP nomination.
Everyone who hates Sarah Palin will continue to hate her, no matter what she says or does.
The rest of us, who love her, know she draws HUGE crowds and she is popular. She is the living embodiment of the Tea Party and, I believe, holds our best hope for both winning the White House and getting us back on course.
People trust Sarah P., and the more you watch and listen the more she impresses. Mitt uses “crony-capitalism” as a throw-away line, but everyone knows it was an attempt to draft off of the Palin bus tour. At this point I simply await the Sarah P. keynote address at the.... brokered convention.
As long as she is chirping from the sidelines, I’m fine with her.
There are multiple, conflicting interpretations on this subject. Here is a “con” opinion- http://www.canadafreepress.com/index.php/article/40510
hrer is a “pro” opinion- http://www.americanthinker.com/2011/07/the_good_news_rubios_eligible.html
I am not expert enough to interpret what is “correct”, although just concerning these two sources I must give more weight to the Heritage Foundation.
I’m sorry, but no. Chose not to RUN. Go back and look at her remarks when she announced her decision on Mark Levin’s show.
I was going to ask you in my prior reply- what do you think of Mitt Romney’s eligibility? Isn’t it dubious because of his Mexican/dual citizenship ancestry?
That is the most troubling thing about Palin supporters. If you don't like her or have criticism of her, even if legitimate, then you 'hate' her. I don't hate her - I just don't love her either.
The idea that one has to be one or the other shows the "derangement" of most Palin supporters.
For you to argue that she is not a big player really makes you look silly. Her endorsement is the one you want most if you are a candidate
Sarah has a lot of people who believe her. IF she entered the race today, she'd draw a lot of voters from Newt and Santorum. Not so many from Mittens or the Nutter.
When it comes election time, IF Newt had Sarah as a running mate, people might not "like" one or the other personally, but I think BOTH their strengths are in getting their messages out.
In debates, though the media always likes to portray Obama as the smartest guy in the room, thats only because he's surrounded by idiots. Newt and Obama are in different leagues, and Newt will bury Obama.
Between Sarah and Biden...Well not much needs to be said about Biden, he's a walking gaff machine. Sarah has had 4 years of intense learning under fire. I think she'll MORE than hold her own.
IF Newt picked her, I think their biggest strength would be pitting her against Biden. VP's are viewed as a "what if" replacement for the President. Play that. Biden is a proven idiot. For all of Palins "perceived" negatives, control the arena. That arena is Palin vs Biden. Hands down, Palin wins.
The only negative I see with Gingrich/Palin, is that Sarah brings alot of the same people to the table that are already supportive of Newt. When McCain ran, he was viewed as soft and "moderate". Sarah infused the campaign with energy and backbone and CONSERVATIVES. Thats what drove the McCain/Palin campaign. Newt is not viewed as weak or soft or moderate. He's not quiet and meek. Palin wouldn't ADD that to the team, she'd just reinforce it. She'd be more of a redundancy.
On the other hand. IF there was a Gingrich/Palin ticket, I think the smartest thing Zero could do, would be to ditch Biden and tap Hillary for VP.
McCain wasn't a match for Obama. It was OBVIOUS at many times he NEVER really wanted to run. Biden was someone who wouldn't get in Obamas way.
Now...Obama has a track record. He's pissed alot of independents off. Heck even moderate or "Reagan Democrats" are pissed at him. The 2010 elections proved people were tired of Obama. That continues today. Obama needs someone to strengthen him. Biden does NOTHING. Hillary, I believe would strengthen Obamas hand. Pitting two strong women and VP slots against each other.
We are continually being told that Mittens is the only viable candidate to run against Obama.
Bullshiite. Obama has been his own worst enemy. He doesn't enjoy the sunshine and rainbows persona given to him 4 years ago. People are angry about Obamacare and how the Dems pushed it through.
Romney is packaged as a "moderate" so the Dems will like him. I'm sorry, dems and libs won't vote for a republican no matter how "moderate" he is. So, we need a candidate who is polar opposites of what Obama is. Newt and Palin are both that. I think enough people are fed up with sunshine and rainbows, and want someone who will do the right thing, and do what needs to be done, no matter how difficult or unpleasant it seems.
I'm a union tradesman. And I can tell you Obama is not popular amongst my union coworkers. Granted, the union higherarchy is still preaching Obama and the dems. But the rank and file are beginning to see him for what he is. The hardcore koolaid drinkers will always push D. But I believe enough are fed up with Zero, that either they will vote R or just stay home.
By the way, when I said I'm a union tradesman. I'm a union tradesman in CHICAGO.
I'm telling you that other union tradesmen IN CHICAGO aren't happy with Zero.
“And she could win the whole thing, IMHO, if they drafted her for the GOP nomination”
I love Sarah, too, but the rumblings of a brokered convention are only for the purposes of the gop elite installing romney as the nominee if it fears Newt might really have a shot. Sarah wouldn’t have a chance there.
I agree with your entire reply. One thing I would add about Biden being not getting in obama’s way, he is also an insurance policy. Nobody is itching for a President Biden.
It’s good to know that Chicago locals are not so much in obama’s camp anymore. He never did have mich sizzle in TX.
[She didn’t drop out.....she never had the courage to get in.]
Like you have one thousandth of her courage or ability to advance the conservative agenda.
What happened to her place in AZ. One would think she would be there now, if she's ever going to be there.
Sarah returned to Alaska after McCain’s defeat to serve out her term as governor. She had passed a law making legislators personally responsible for legal fees in ethics accusations. The left filed a lawsuit every week and she and her staff could do nothing more than comply with subpoenas. She was $500,000 in debt. So she bowed out to save the state and save he family by writing her first book.
Please explain to all of us how someone “dropped out of the race” who was never a declared candidate. By that standard I, too, dropped out. Your Palinoia drives you people to say the craziest stuff.
But that is not the issue. The issue is the fact that palin did not show the courage to get in the race...you can't change that fact. She has made a good living on the sidelines though.
I know you like her and I respect you... so I’ll leave it there friend.
I don't think so.
There is a trust factor involved...you vote for whom you think will push your agenda and trust that that person will stay the course.
Palin has created an image of one who does not stay the course. She did this by quitting in Alaska and by stringing her followers along for months and months only to cash out and stay on the sidelines.
I'm not so sure that her 'legions; of former supporters would be over-whelmingly ready to climb on her bus one more time.
Newt worries me a little because he’s a little incorrigible but that can be a good thing too. For sure his brilliance in speaking is our best shot at getting the independents to realize how far down the left hole Obama has taken us.
Seems to me Romney’s advantage is that he probably wouldn’t piss off the independents who want something more mild - and that’s Romney, mild.
Santorum bugs me for some reason. I just don’t think he’s ready, doesn’t have the gravitas - of course he’d be WAYY better than what we’ve got.
If I could pick the POTUS without interference from idiots I’d pick Sarah.
The media, as well as the Republican establishment, will now begin to focus on Mr. Newt's “negatives” and his style of leadership from 15 years ago. Mr. Newt has changed, he is wiser, happier, wealthier, and content to jump into this craziness because he believes he can make a real contribution with his experience and commitment to this county. How can we bring him down? It has already begun on FoxNews. I don't watch the others enough to be objective, however, I am sure that they will do Obama’s lifting for him, because he is going to be a hurtin puppy after Mr. Newt follows him around for a couple of weeks.
Mr. Newt broke the “inevitable” bubble the media and Republican establishment have been shoving at us for months. The People are now speaking and we do not want Mitt Romney or any other RINO this time.
NOTE: If your associates are following this thread, tell Mr. Newt that he has so many positives, so many good ideas, go much depth of knowledge, he now needs to focus the Florida campaign on the striking differences and rise above the temptation to allow his passion to overtake his reason and just look mean. Show them the new and improved Newt. I have been married 40 years, and my husband is still a work in progress.
God Bless Mr. Newt...we have your back!
Yeah, she can lead all the way into the kitchen.
Oh, wait.. maybe just halfway there.
No sandwiches for us, you betcha.
I agree. Sarah would make an excellent Secretary of Energy.
From the the sheer stupidy and absurdity of that post, you can obviously lead all the way to the far left, Crazyland.
No sandwiches for us, you betcha.”
No crazy pills for ya. You betcha.
Umm..when did she enter the race then? (before “dropping out” of it as you put it)
Yeah, you’re right. All those contributions she collected while she was never in the race were for lunch money. Nice scam.
Ummm.... what contri butions. Are those, Mr Clownface? You can’t collect campaign contributions if you are not in a race. If you are talking about her PAC, the full audited accounts are regularly published for anyone to see.
What more infantile nonsense you got to spew out?
Nikki Haley agrees.
Keeping the whole stash for yourself?
hey jack ass, are you denying that people were making contributions to her (her PAC if you feel better about it)expecting her to declare?
I suspect you are right. Sarah is more effective as a power-broker and conservative opinion leader than as a candidate.
Listen fool, it just so happens to be prefectly legal for PAC’s to collect money, as long as they operate within the rules. Sarah Palin”s PAC has operated entirely within the law. Better trolls from the lamestream media than you have tried to find something inappropriate, and come up with nothing.
Now. why don’t you crawl back to the insane asylum you just escaped from?
