Gingrich lead expands on final night (Newt up by 9)
PPP ^ | January 21 2012 | PPP

Posted on 01/21/2012 5:58:27 AM PST by Eurotwit

Raleigh, N.C. – Newt Gingrich heads into South Carolina election day as the clear front runner in the state: he's now polling at 37% to 28% for Mitt Romney, 16% for Rick Santorum, and 14% for Ron Paul. Gingrich's lead has actually increased in the wake of his ex-wife's controversial interview with ABC. Although one night poll results should always be interpreted with caution, he led the final night of the field period by a 40-26 margin. One thing that continues to work to his advantage are the debates. 60% of primary voters report having watched the one last night, and Gingrich has a 46-23 lead with those folks. The other reason his ex-wife's interview isn't causing him much trouble is that there's a lot of skepticism about it. Only 31% of voters say they think her accusations are true while 35% think they are false and 34% are unsure. 51% of voters say that they have 'no concerns' about what came out in the interview. The skepticism of Republican voters toward the media is helping Gingrich as well. Just 14% of likely voters have a generally favorable opinion of the media, while 77% view it negatively. Gingrich's attacks on the media have clearly played well with the party base. Gingrich is leading with pretty much every key segment of the Republican electorate. He's up 41-21 on Romney and Santorum with Evangelicals, he has a 52-18 advantage on Romney with Tea Partiers, he leads Santorum 44-21 with 'very conservative' voters with Romney at 20%, and he's up 39-26 with men. “Newt Gingrich looks like the clear favorite now in tomorrow’s primary,” said Dean Debnam, President of Public Policy Polling. “There was a thought that his ex-wife’s interview could stop his momentum in South Carolina, but instead it seems to have reinforced his support. He’s winning with all the key groups that determine the winners and losers in Palmetto state GOP politics.” PPP surveyed 1,540 likely Republican primary voters from January 18 th to 20th. The margin of error for the survey is +/-2.5%. This poll was not paid for or authorized by any campaign or political organization. PPP surveys are conducted through automated telephone interviews. PPP is a Democratic polling company, but polling expert Nate Silver of the New York Times found that its surveys in 2010 actually exhibited a slight bias toward Republican candidate

That’s the point I made repeatedly yesterday. We have to go with what we’ve got, and of the 4 Gingrich has what it takes to take the battle to the enemy; the MSM, Democrats, and Obama in particular. It’s a fairly easy conclusion.

Sure, he has negatives, but so do they all. We don’t have a shining knight, a pure conservative. We have to fight with what we have.

I was predicting a 10 point win today. Could it really go much higher?

And now that Romney is demanding the “facts” and records about the fines and “ethics violations” when Newt was speaker, that one will really backfire on him. Because all the charges and fines were dropped after the real truth came out in the very much, hush-hush hearings.

And the MSM did not say a word about it when Newt deserved to be exonerated for the bogus charges brought by the GOPE in the first place. They had better be careful what they try to drag out into the open from here on out.

Perhaps they actually know that this time.

Your “Pure conservative” mantra is getting old. There never was, and never will be a “Pure conservative”. Drop that pipe dream, for the good of us all. We live in a real and imperfect world and that will never change.

Enemies of conservatives at this moment in time (feel free to add to the list):

Obama/Democrat-led senate
Social programs
the MSM and its grip on the national microphone
Eduocracy in America
Moderate bent of the Republican Party

Newt’s candidacy would address each of these with a reasoned conservative approach more strongly (and in some instances, far more strongly) than any of the remaining candidates

Newt was on a roll----batting a 1000:

(1) hammering King on the ex-wife story,

(2) visibly disgusted that conservatives are being asked about Hollywood's financial interests (SOPA), and........

(3) saying Ocare provides 26 y/o's coverage b/c they can't get jobs---"you vote for us and your kids will move out and have jobs."

Palin told Hannity that the wife story would help Newt and she was right. What SC likes is that Newt manhandled that metrosexual girly boy John King. He called out the MSM for what they really are without losing it.

Voting for Newt is big FU to MSM. These pompous fools have no idea the level of anger and contempt towards them in flyover country. Newt gets his biggest cheers when he confronts these despicable twits. He’s channeling our anger.

Don’t forget his line about them covering up for Obama.

Every single little thing EVERY Republican has EVER done is news-bait. Every allegation by everyone they’ve ever known (or not known) is reported. Republicans are endlessly parodied, made fun of, and spoken of contemptuously even in what’s supposed to pass as unbiased “news” reports.

While our Dear Leader is given a 100% pass on EVERYTHING. No one he’s ever known (if he’s ever known ANYONE. Funny how little past he seems to have, huh?) is EVER dug up. Nothing he’s ever done is examined. College transcripts? Who cares. Birth certificate? Oh, you uploaded one to the internet? Good enough. Obama gets a CONSTANT pass from these MSM traitors and it’s well past time someone on our side had the balls to stand up and call them on it.

And that someone... surprise, surprise... wasn’t Mitt Romney.

We need new better people in washington, not people that work the system so they can have $500,000 line of credit at Tiffany’s.
I see, 'Work the system'. You mean like working in the private sector 'system' after leaving gubmint to make some MONEY? And what's the problem with having a $500,000 line of credit at Tiffany?

You sound like a envious, jealous, leftist, coveter of others goods and prosperity -- just because you're not rich and have lines of credit at Jewelry stores.

Rush said it best “the Democrats and media will tell you who they fear the most by who they attack!” They trotted out their “big guns” against Newt this week and newt walked right up and stuck his finger in the barrel hole and the gun blew UP on them! GO NEWT!

What is Rush’s take on the race and the candidates?

Since I left the United State I have not been able to catch up.

Cheers.

Yep, Newt's on a Roll alright, Mittens is going down.

Yet it appears we have a disgruntled Texas Perrybot in 'isle #3' slamming Newt. Seems 3's a little jealous that Newt made some money after leaving congress -- writing a dozen books actually pays, who'd a thunk it? -- and that Newt has a line of credit at Tiffany.

That type of screed could come from one of those envious Occupier deadbeats.

If it’s too good to be true it usually is. I’d love to know who’s participating in these polls. Personally, I think it’s just push polling ala Romney and Perry.
