Delusional...NewtBots like Jim Jones subjects on KoolAid...[and another one bytes the zot]

What is it about this primary season that causes Republicans to go around the bend? The current beneficiary of the “anyone but Romney” mania is Newt Gingrich, who may actually win the South Carolina primary tomorrow. I find that astonishing. Gingrich has been mostly out of the public view since he retired from Congress 13 years ago. The most surprising feature of this endlessly surprising political year is that, at age 68, Gingrich has made a comeback.

It is hard to make clear-cut statements about the mercurial and often contradictory Gingrich, but one thing we can say with absolute certainty: he will never be President of the United States. Put aside the fact that he lasted only four years as Speaker of the House before resigning in disgrace, leaving Congress with an approval rating around 15%. Forget that he was the father of the earmark. Never mind his notorious lack of self-control and his attacks on free enterprise. Those are all worthy topics for another day, but for the moment let’s just focus on the allegations by Newt’s second ex-wife that hit the press this week. Apart from all the other good reasons why Gingrich will never be President, Marianne Gingrich’s sensational allegations snuffed out any possible hope that Newt can beat Barack Obama in 2012.

Nicely stated Frank... and I agree about the attacks and tactics.. There was a candidate, that under normal circumstances I may have supported... except for his cheerleaders drove me to despise him more than the other candidates (with exception to RuPaul and Mittens)..

Oh, for the love of Pete, let him vent. I know why I'm supporting Newt and I can articulate it. If we can't explain why we are going for him despite his baggage and why we don't want Romney, there is not much hope for conservatism.

Well, somewhere there was a comparison of economic plans, and for that reason, I lean towards Newt, I did vote Romney 2008 for same reason of best economic plan and I’m surprised he hasn’t improved on it.

he’s got 3 things going;
1. best economic plan
2. details the rotten media bias for Democrats in real time
3. calls the Saul Lewinsky radicalism what it is

I’m struggling to understand it as well. But I also struggled to comprehend the Palin devotion.

All I can figure out is conservatives are desperately hungry for someone who can both 1) articulate conservative values in a clear and unapologetic fashion and 2) take names and kick butt-hard.

Marianne Gingrich is not going away. She has a huge axe to grind and she’s going to just keep grinding it to the delight of the DBM. A constant sideshow of this type will overshadow Newt’s message. It will be just like Cain only we’d be stuck with Gingrich as a nominee with no way out.

Newt’s chastising the press is going to get old and start to sound petty. “Never pick a fight with anyone who buys ink by the barrel” is still relevant, IMO.

Obama will never agree to a debate format that would pit him one on one against Gingrich. This advantage will be effectively muted.

I wonder sometimes if the reason we are where we are (as a Country) isn’t because we demand perfection in a candidate, rather because we demand imperfection in a candidate.

That's a very interesting way of looking at it. That certainly was the case with Bush I, Dole, Bush II, and McCain.

Newt is the bottom of the barrel in choices. A fraction wanted no one but Palin and waiting on her; a lot of good candidates that were her political equal were brutally bashed on this forum.

With all that said.Romney is not a good wholesome Mormon man as you claim. He is the worst snake oil salesman of them all.His last debate performance was so scripted,so desperate as he stuttered out his memorized from idiot Rove; words.

The tea party is ticked off. There can be no more Obama or we won’t have an America.Gingrich or Santorum are the only hope. I think Perry,Bachmann would have been superb as POTUS.The irony is I would venture a guess that Palin was waiting on Perry to be VP and we could have had this nation back; but the same people on this forum that screamed in numerous threads over and over that Palin would NOT take a VP or cabinet position-ONLY POTUS are the same ones promoting Gingrich now as the last hope and suddenly are proclaiming joy Palin could be in The Gingrich cabinet.

There was a schism but the Palin games did not help at all.

FR is supposed to be the bastion of conservative values, small government, religous piety, morality, etc.

Newt is the only one who has espoused and fought for conservative values while serving in office.

Newt is the only one who has made actual cuts to government (welfare reform) and balanced the budget.

Newt asked for forgiveness and has conducted himself in an honorable manner. A Christian believes in redemption --- what faith are you that you do not?

The vitriol spewed towards a Mormon like Romney who from all accounts has led a moral life...

Yet when he was governor, he supported and signed multiple pieces of legislation that directly conflicted with his Christian values......Gingrich never did that.

My wife and I will be voting today in SC too.

I appreciate the moral conviction of Santorum however I believe to nominate him would be like sending a lapdog into the front yard to chase away a pit-bull.

Romney pings my creep-meter all the way.

Paul is like an idiot savant; moments of brilliance and uncontrollable lunacy.

Newt is the most seasoned politician.

The ultimate overriding fact is that Obama needs to be replaced.

Who ever we nominate is and will be saturated with negative coverage by the MSM .

I do so enjoy the way Newt handles the media. I will be praying fervently for guidance.

P.S. the wife likes Paul.

I’m in the “anyone but Romney” camp, but - even so - I don’t think supporting Romney should be the kiss-of-ZOT.

Plenty of people who are reasonable laudable from a conservative standpoint have endorsed Romney. I’m not going to throw these babies completely out with the bathwater:

Nikki Haley
John Bolton
Thaddeus McCotter
Chris Christie
Rick Lazio
Elizabeth Dole
John Thune
Dennis Hastert
etc

Some of these people have their flaws, nut they are all enemies of Obama. The enemy of my enemy is my friend.

So go ahead on your book-burning, thought control spree. I’m not a “big tent” guy, but I’m also not a “burn the witch” guy either.

Look, paint, I am trying to say that until Newtie reaches the people he wants to have vote for him, they will not vote for him.. Perhaps Newtie and God are best buds, that is what I hope. But he definitely hasn’t made clear to the electorate that he is a changed man, in fact he appears as a nasty fat little cheater who takes whatever he wants for himself at the expense of those he has pledged to love (spouse) or serve (voters). We don’t need such in White House.

If Newtie has indeed changed and is now a knight in shining armor, he needs to make that abundantly clear.

This kind of stuff has been occurring in the last few days.

You’re making odd assertions here.

You say Newt came out of nowhere.

Cain is old news but when he ran he was the ultimate in ‘came out of nowhere’ and he got huge support.

Santorum didn’t come out of nowhere but his political career had been nonexistent since his ignominious defeat for senate. He’d been wandering in the political wilderness.

Romney had a term as governor, ran for president when McCain was nominated and is best known for Romney-care.

We won’t even discuss Ron Paul, but he, at least, didn’t come out of nowhere.

Newt led the country to the first majority in the House since dinosaurs roamed the earth. We are still reaping benefits from the good things he did during that period.

The only entrants who were currently serving in politics were Michele Bachmann, Ron Paul and Rick Perry.

Perry was the perfect candidate but various factors - none of them particularly meaningful - conspired against him.

He’s gone now and we have three valid candidates remaining.

We’ve none Newt’s negatives all along and most of us decided his positives outweighed them.

If Newtie had changed, he wouldn’t have come across so indignant. A little humility is called for. He also wouldn’t have said poor Mariane is a liar.

It looks and sounds like he hasn’t learned. It looks and sounds like he wants a pass. Do you have a link to an article where the dude actually apologizes? If so please please post it.

I quit going to Powerline when Hinderaker endorsed Mitt, more specifically because of his reasons.

Something just doesn’t feel right about the Romney “electability” meme. Hinderaker, and others in the Republican establishment, are ascribing far greater power to the media than they now deserve.

We have a history to observe in the fact that the media shilled for each and every Democrat that was defeated in the 2010 elections. We elected scores of Republicans to local, state and congressional offices, many of whom had what the media considered to be “baggage”, both personal and professional. We elected an evangelical as Governor of Virginia. We elected divorced candidates. We elected pro-life, pro-gun conservatives in bastions of liberalism, across this country. The media did everything they could to keep these conservatives from being elected.

Sure, Newt has baggage. Does anyone think the media won’t attempt to destroy Romney if he were to gain the nomination?

We’re tired of the media setting the agenda. We want someone who questions the premises of their silly debate questions. We want a fighter. We want a SHERIFF.

I agree with Rush, who says that conservatism can win without attempting to “go toward the middle” or water-down our beliefs to capture the vaunted independents.

The country is in an angry, fearful mood. Newt is a gunslinger that the media has painted as mean. Heck, we want mean. We need mean. We want a sheriff with guns he’s willing to fire at those who threaten us. We’re angry. Newt’s the one who said Barney Frank and Chris Dodd should go to jail. We’re afraid, and we don’t think Romney will protect us.

Newt not only can win, Newt will win.

Newt is the bulldozer we've been waiting for.....

I think that thought is the driving force behind each and every candidate that has-even for a moment-been on the top of the pile.

Voters are tired of the house, the senate, the prez, heck, even the local pols, that take, take, take, take, and Tell us what we should eat, drink, think, and live.

Sarah had a short time up there because she was feisty and ready to rumble.

Cain got his shot because HE appeared to be ready to rumble.

I think Newt sees how starved we are for a fighter, someone who will take it to them, rather than quietly acquiesce to a butt reaming by the media and their lackeys in the govt.

MILWGUY,

I presume that some of Newt's "cult-like" followers include both Presidents Ronald Reagan and Bill Clinton, who BOTH agreed with Newt that TRUE ECONOMIC GROWTH comes after:

1) Corporate and Personal Taxes are LOWERED

2) Government Regulations are SCALED-BACK

3) U.S. Domestic Energy Production is ENCOURAGED

Another famous "Newt-Cult-Member" ... "Tip" O'Neil (All Politics are Local) ... a Yellow-Dog-Kennedy-Style Democrat ... also went along with Newt Gingrich's IDEAS turned into ACTION ... and RESULTS ... 16 million new Jobs created with the HMajor Leadership of Newt Gingrich ...

Newt Gingrich ... THEN ... pissed-off the Nantucket GOP Elite (Bush-41) when he STOOD HIS GROUND when Bush-41 STUPIDLY lied (broke his promise) and RAISED TAXES ...

... against Newt Gingrich's political warnings ....

That's WHY Bush-41, Juan McCain and the other politicallly "go-along-get-along" GOP RINOs despise Newt Gingrich ...

... and of course ... LOVE ... Mitt Romney ...

Heard any Mormom-LDS jokes on television lately ?

Dave Letterman, Saturday Night Live, Comedy Central ?

Just wait ... their liberal writers (anti-whatever-religion-except-islam) are RIGHT NOW composing VOLUMES of derogatory anti-Mormon INEUENDO and (very bad) jokes ...

Then ... "if" ... Mitt Romney wins the GOP noomination ... THEN you'll hear "every" form of anti-Mormon humor EVER devised ... for SIX straight months ...

Mormom ritual underwear, secret handshakes, becoming mini-gods someday in eternity, ceremonies for the dead, MULTIPLE WIVES ...

The MSM "first goal" will be to ALIENATE the GOP's "Christian Evangelical" voters AGAINST Romney ... AND THEY WILL BE SUCCESSFUL ...

and "whateever" you think that you heard Rick Perry and Pastor John Hagee say against Mormons ... that will be CHILD's PLAY compared to what the Liberal-MSM will do to Mormons ...

Now let's talk "Wall Street Finances" ... and the 2012 Presidential election ...

George Soros, Axelrod and Obama ... all CREATED O.W.S. almost exactly one-year prior to the Presidential Election ...

They "stage-managed" OWS ... promoted it (generously) by MSM propaganda ... and then KILLED-IT ... after a DESIGNED period of time ...

Why ?

To promote Class Warfare ...

Why ?

Because they were "grooming" (greasing-the-skids) for a Mitt Romney GOP Candidacy ...

Mitt Romney ... "Mr. Venture-Vulture Capitalist" ... Mr. $ 190 Million in the Bank ... INCLUDING SECRET OFFSHORE ACCOUNTS ... that Romney's afraid to release records for ...

I don't care if Ronald Reagan RESURRECTS from the DEAD and ENDORSES Mitt Romney ...

Obama's Billion Dollar Nazi-Propaganda Campaign will DESTROY any hopes for Mitt Romney's Presidential Candidacy.

Period.

Closing Arguments ....

ALL Conservatives AGREE with Dr. Winkie (Ron Paul) that the Federal Reserve is a complete DISASTER ...

Whom do YOU TRUST to "fire-terminate" Fed Chairman Ben Bernache on Day-One of his Presidentcy ?

Mitt "Wall-Street Bain-Capital Tycoon" Romney ... or ... Newt Gingrich ?

Whom do YOU TRUST to AUDIT (with extreme prejudice) the Federal Reserve on Day-One of his Presidentcy ?

Mitt "Wall-Street Bain-Capital Tycoon" Romney ... or ... Newt Gingrich ?

You Gentlemen may label me a "Newt Cult-Member" ...

and I'll RAISE A TOAST to that ... and Ronald Reagan will join me ...

for any Reagan-Conservative President who promises these SPECIFIC ACCOMPLISHMENTS in his Presidentcy ...

1) Abolish the EPA
2) FIRE Federal Reserve Banker Bernacke
3) Actively protect America against Isalmic Jihad

4) Prayer in the Public Schools -- RETURNED
5) Liberal (Activist) Federal Judges REMOVED

6) Business Corporate Tax Rate LOWERED to 12-percent
7) Individuals to have FLAT-TAX option at 15-percent

8) Promote U.S. Energy Independence -- DOMESTICALLY

9) Build EFFECTIVE U.S. Border Protection by 2015
10) Illegal Immigrants (especially violent gangs) DEPORTED
