They were also wondering if the heavy rains today had affected the turnout. They said that the turnout in the Upstate, which is the most conservative part of the state, has been very heavy—heavier than 2008. I think that’s good news for Newt.

Let me share an anecdote from talking to a longtime friend this morning. He’s a small businessman and a member of a very prominent family in Lexington County, and they are old school Democrats. He told us “I don’t know what we’re going to do or what’s going to happen to our country if we don’t get that guy out of the White House.” My husband has known this man his whole life, and this is a big statement coming from a man like him.

Its hard to imagine that there are still some hardcore old line yellow dog dems who are still somewhat conservative. Hopefully, obama turned them all into tea party pats.
