Voters head to polls in SC as Mitt Romney belittles Gingrich and does his own laundry

COLUMBIA, S.C. – Voters battled rainstorms and tornado warnings as they streamed to the polls here today, capping a tumultuous and at times politically dizzying week of events that, by tonight, could potentially reshape the Republican presidential nomination process once more.

Extending a more aggressive phase of his campaign, Mitt Romney today renewed attacks on Newt Gingrich, calling on the former House speaker to release records related to his role consulting Freddie Mac, the quasi-public lending agency that many blame for accelerating the housing crisis.

“I’d like to see what he actually told Freddie Mac,” Romney told reporters after visiting his campaign headquarters. “Don’t ya think we ought to see it? This is a big issue. We’ve got a Washington insider talking about Freddie Mac, let’s see what his report was to Freddie Mac, what he said to them, what advice he gave them.”

His campaign sent out a press release – “Happy 15th Anniversary, Mr. Speaker” – to draw attention to the day 15 years ago when Gingrich was reprimanded by the House for ethical wrongdoing.

Yet while Romney was happy to criticize Gingrich to reporters, he avoided any face-to-face interaction with his rival......

Romney, in a week in which his opponents criticized him for being out of touch, showcased that he was doing one of the most humble chores, washing his own clothes. His son, Tagg, sent out a photo on Twitter of Romney dumping Tide into a washing machine. Ann Romney, dressed casually in a sweatshirt, removed clothes from the next machine......................

Hatred? Strong word. I can’t stand Romney, but I don’t HATE him. If that makes sense, LOL.

It hasn’t been long since I read an account of how cold and aloof Romney is to the “regular people” when the cameras aren’t on and he isn’t grubbing for votes. I have no use for him. He’s as phony and plastic as one of those pod people from “Invasion of the Body Snatchers”, and he’s so stiff and awkward that he invites ridicule. Still, I doubt any of us would have so much fun doing it if it wasn’t for his downright evil liberal record.

Mitt Romney is NOT nor has he ever been a Tea Party candidate. That's where you're wrong.

Secondly, I have no idea why you pinged me in your comment for saying:

Anyone with that kind of money who has to wash his own clothes must have bad management skills

Well, I happen to think management skills is very important if the man wants to run a country.

And I’m still trying to figure out to whom we would look like a bunch of “hateful hicks” for making fun of an extra super stupid photo of Romney, and why we should care?

Running scared from the growing chorus of "release your tax forms", Mitt fails at money laundering.

It may not be hatred-triggered for everyone (but trust me when I say that it is from some). But it is foolish, ignorant, and petty regardless of the motivation. We need to argue facts or we are just as bad as the left. Suggesting that holding a box of laundry detergent upside down is a disqualifier for president is bad enough. To be so ignorant to not know that when you pour a single-load box into the machine you kind of have to turn it upside down just makes you look foolish. And petty. And, sometimes, hateful.

And potty comments just makes us look like third graders.

I can only guess we must look like a bunch of "hicks" to the Rockafellar Republicans of the RINO wing.

We must be SENsitive so we don't ofFEND them. Especially tonight... they're having a bad night I hear ;)

Next thing we’ll see, he’ll be hanging curtains.

Almost time to ride a woman's bike with flat tires while wearing a Michael Dukakis autographed bike helmet.

Dear Mittens,

Freddie Mac paid Newt's firm for this, and the work product belongs to them. See, that's how capitalism works, Mittens. You buy something from someone, they provide it to you, you pay them for it, then it belongs to you. It becomes your property. I'm shocked, shocked I say, that you have so little understanding of capitalism, and so little respect for private property laws. You demonstrate once again why we should be very afraid of you.

We did. All week and tonight our work has proven successful. We won. Tonight it's a time to celebrate. I don't know about you but I'm going to the 7 Eleven for some coke to go with my Bacardi 151 because tomorrow it OFF TO FLORIDA to do it all over again.

The only ones worried about the facts tonight are the Romneybots. I didn't think we had them here.

I guess I was wrong.

I gave you a courtesy ping because I quoted you - "Looks like it’s his first time washing clothes. He holds the soap box so awkwardly." We tend to do that around here. I think I agreed with your "awkward" comment.

And I don't suggest that Romney is a tea party candidate. Far from it. He is as establishment as they come. What I am trying to say is that it reflects poorly on us (whom I assume are mostly supportive of the tea party philosophy) when we resort to the type of condemnation that I see on this thread. Come on, it's a hotel laundry room - the detergent boxes from the vending machines are small. When we get stuff like that wrong, it makes it hard to convince people about all the stuff we are right about - taxes are too high, government is too big, and there is nothing about Romney that suggests that we will fix either of those.

If you look at my prior postings (and I don't really expect you to) you will see that the only thing I stick in the "positive column" for Romney is his management/executive experience. I think that is very important in a president. Which is also why I was supporting Palin (sigh), and then Cain (also sigh). Between Santorum and Gingrich, Newt wins the executive score. But I am really struggling to overlook his flaws.

Like many here (but not all, that's for sure) I will vote for Romney if he is the presidential candidate. But I certainly am not voting for him in the primary. I'd consider Paul before Mitt.

Sorry, not a Romneybot. Far from it. But I do appreciate honorable discourse, and try to direct people to that instead of schoolyard upmanship.

I work with folks that think it is cute to have bathroom names for our largest customers. I stopped that type of stuff about third grade.

Why does Gingrich resonate with so many people? I think it is because he presents his case with provable facts. Hard to argue against that.

And, of course, a little game of 'catch' once in a while is good, too!

And when he rides his bike, he needs to wear his wife's blue jeans.

She’s supposedly taking clothes OUT? and he’s just putting some IN?
Hmmmm.
I have had to use a laundromat on occasion and unless there’s only two washers in the laundromat and the one he’s supposedly loading was in use when she put her’s in....
Well, I just can’t imagine the wait to do your wash one load after he other. Sure would use up a lot of valuable campaign time.
Anyone else not buying thes staged shot?

Not measuring it out ???

It appears like a little box - the kind you get from a vending machine for one load.
