Schmidt: GOP Establishment Will Have A Meltdown If Newt Wins Florida
RealClearPolitics ^

Posted on 01/21/2012 8:01:49 PM PST by VinL

Schmidt: "Not only are we not moving toward a coalescing of support with the establishment of Newt Gingrich, we're probably moving toward a declaration of war on Newt Gingrich by the Republican establishment. And if Newt Gingrich is able to win the Florida primary, you will see a panic and a meltdown of the Republican establishment that is beyond my ability to articulate in the English language. People will go crazy,"

And you will have this five week period until the Super Tuesday states that will be just as unpredictable, tumultuous as any period in modern American politics. It will be a remarkable thing to watch, should that happen in Florida."

Maddow: "Is there a component of that which is building a firewall around Mitt Romney, protecting him? We saw the establishment try to do that and Romney helping, saying “You can’t talk any smack about Bain. Bain is what I want to run on, it has to be positive, don’t undercut that at all.” Which to me, was like a flashing red neon arrow, “here’s my glass jaw, please don’t hit it.” Is there a way to protect Mitt Romney other than, I think, this wrong approach, Ithey’ve taken with Bain."

Schmidt: "I think everybody in the establishment Republican circles in Washington D.C. is fixated on the numbers we talked about earlier. Newt Gingrich has a 100% name ID, has a 60% national unfavorable number and it’s a number so high that with the 100% name ID it’s impossible to come back from. You’re not electable in a general election, in a 2012 presidential election if your unfavorable numbers are that high. Particularly against a president, that while vulnerable...

I still can’t figure out why the GOP Establishment is afraid of Newt Gingrich. He IS the GOP Establishment for God’s sake.
Like he doesn’t know how to play ball with the GOP Establishment? Give me a break.

Rebellion is here!!

We should rebuild the grassroots conservative movement. From the Reagan Revolution of 1980 through the Contract with America in 1994, it was this movement from outside Washington that carried us to the first center-right majority governing coalition in more than 60 years.

The problem has not been with conservatism or with our voters.

The problem has been with Republican leaders who forgot who elected them and what values their supporters expected to see implemented in Washington.

Melt away!

There really is no choice here. Either the GOP has got to be totally transformed and renewed, or it has got to be replaced. We have no more time for a “Me too!” party whose deepest desire is to split the pork with the Democrats, no matter how far to the left they go.

Transform, or melt and vanish! Either the RINOs and the Operatives need to go, or the party needs to go.

Maybe he has high negatives now, but now makes no difference once Newt is on the campaign trail against BO. That will be a game changer.

This is why TEA has to silently support Newt. We have to keep these RATS dumbfounded and in denial about their very near future death and demise. Don’t fire until you see the whites of their eyes.

I hope he picks Ryan as VP. He needs to be in the White House sometime down the line.

True, 100% name ID and a high dislike percentage - but that dislike level was manufactured by a lot of abusive media (the myth about telling his wife he wanted a divorce on her deathbed, etc. - which became legend and then was printed without regard for the truth) and Democratic attacks. And it is not immutable. I think the change the Newt managed in SC was indicative of the fact that people are able to listen to him and can be won by his forceful presentation. This is the entire point of Newt - he can chew up and spit out Obama in any Presidential debates, assuming he gets the nomination. If he loses the nomination to Romney, then consult with Newt on the morning of November 7th to hear “I told you so”. Otherwise address him as President-Elect.

That is the uncomfortable part of Newt - you have to have the courage to give him the nomination in order for him to self-rehabilitate. And he can do that best by doing what he does best - and that would be achieved in debating Obama. People would see the contrast and come to the same conclusion that SC voters did (e.g., the ex-wife allegations thing is not so weighty when you see that he is is forceful and powerful as a speaker, debater and leader.)

Establishment Republicans is just another term for liberal. If I were a fly on the wall in the voting booth while Karl Rove is in there I can pretty much guarantee that turd voted for Obama in 2008 and would probably vote for him again.

The "GOP Establishment" tried to stop Reagan too--for all the good it did them. They should just go back to their country clubs, pour a single malt and let the people decide.

Snip: Newt Gingrich has a 100% name ID, has a 60% national unfavorable number and it’s a number so high that with the 100% name ID it’s impossible to come back from.

Horse Hocky! The Left and the Established Ruling Class GOP is running scared and trying to say and do anything to keep hold of the power that they have.

Go Newt!

That sounds like establishment thinking, too.

The same establishment that said secretly to go easy on Obama, and don't attack him personally.
