I went to college 40 years ago in South Carolina.

There was a big all-night grocery store downtown.

Three cashiers, usually men but sometimes a woman, all carrying visible side arms.

Not one robbery in the four years I was there.

The only safe way for a non-LEO to “hold” a perp for the police is face down with two (or more) in the chest and give them time to bleed out before dialing 911.....just to be safe.

Several years ago I held two poachers on my property until the Sheriff arrived. One was mouthy and said “You can't hold us” and stood up. I pointed my Mossberg at the quiet one on the ground and said “Son, I'm sorry, but if I shoot him I'm gonna shoot you, too.” He tackled his buddy and sat on him until the Sheriff arrived.

Dante would have been wise to go to an Applebee's, or other "gun free" family restaurant, as determined by the idiot lawmakers of South Carolina.

It would have been like shooting fish in a barrel for him.

UNLESS I was there. ;)

Yep, I would be in jail right now.

But, poor Dante would still be dead.

Well, bless his recently stilled heart, at least his parents were literate.

He wasn’t saddled with Donté, Dontay or the particularly ridiculous, faux-luxe D’Ontee, all of which I’ve seen before. That one’s the given name equivalent of plastichrome portholes stuck on a Hyundai.

So, at least he had that going for him, an increasing rarity these days. Didn’t keep him from trying to rob a restaurant and getting removed from this plane of existence in the end, but it’s something.

From the article: Saturday would have been his (dead perp) 19th birthday.

Lamont, you big dead dummy!

I’d hazard to guess we now have 1 less Obama voter.

Convicted felons can't legally vote.

Oh wait... never mind.
