U.S. Rep. Gabrielle Giffords will step down from Congress this week to focus on her recovery, her staff announced Sunday. "I have more work to do on my recovery, so to do what is best for Arizona, I will step down this week," Giffords said in a video message. Giffords, a third-generation Arizonan who served five years in the state Legislature before being elected to the U.S. House of Representatives in November 2006, will not seek re-election this fall. Giffords vowed to return public service. "I will return and we will work together for Arizona and this great country," she said.

This may be a GOP pick up as Jesse Kelly, who lost to Giffords by a small margin in 2010, has declared again.

He has already declared? Good news! He will win this time.

** & if her husband runs, Jesse Kelly vs Mark Kelly??
GOOD GRIEF!!

I’m “off the wall nuts” for not liking a dishonest democrat who lied about her votes, and consistently did whatever Pelosi wanted?

Maybe you’re on the wrong forum...

I see a lot of people on this first page who clearly don’t live here and have no clue what a Communist sympathizer Giffords was.

Thank you for posting the truth about the “blue dog” propaganda.

If I’m reading this right: she voted for Porkulus, Obamacare, Dodd-Frank and lots of other bad legislation.

So like most of her ilk, she’ll now leave since she’s destroyed enough - and she’ll be called a hero for it.

Wonderful....

Gosh, the woman took a bullet to the head and went through hell. Even as a dyed-in-the-wool conservative she’d have my vote had she run. God help her.

YMBSM!

Would you really vote for someone based on tragedy in her life?

Life long Kennedy supporter?

Well-said, bttt.

When someone is admitting to voting for a Communist sympathizer like Giffords -— Pelosi’s puppet who voted with Pelosi 95% of the time — I have little hope left for the country.

“Every record of her votes I’ve seen indicate she was a moderate.”

Her constituents know otherwise. There was only one time she cast a vote against big government on a close vote. On that vote, she remained in the well of the House, waiting to change her vote to YES if Pelosi needed it.

She only voted conservative when she knew the vote wouldn’t matter. That was all she was allowed.

And when she finally came to hold townhalls under protest - and remember, she lived in Texas not Arizona - she made it clear that she did NOT care what her constituents thought. I was there.

No, not in all cases. This was unique.

I was there too, Mr. Rogers, at two out of the three she finally decreed that she would have. You are exactly right.

The overwhelming opposition to ObamaCare mattered not a whit to Giffords, she was hel#-bent on ramming it down our throats.

Some of the people on this thread would praise their Siberian death camp guards, that’s how brainwashed they are.

Gosh, the woman took a bullet to the head and went through hell.

She continually whined and cried about how afraid she was, to anyone who would listen. They tried to blame several incidents on conservatives, but never any arrests. Her dear friend in CD7 even had "someone" sending him white fake anthrax powder to get the sympathy vote.

It was Giffords' responsibility to provide a safe environment that day, like there always was at the tea parties and at any indoor political events. She could have requested a deputy from Dupnik, or hired her own guard. Especially given how afraid she was of the tea party and ANY and all opposition to her fascism.

Nothing like someone in Tampa Florida telling folks in AZ-8 what Gabby is like...but then, he probably gets the NY Times, so he knows it all.

Didn’t she get elected in 2008? I hear she has just over 5 years! Guess we know why the timing.
