COLUMBIA, S.C. A new surrogate for Mitt Romney warned Saturday night that if Newt Gingrich is the nominee he could give Democrats united control of Congress.
Henry Barbour, a top Rick Perry fundraiser who endorsed Mitt Romney after the Texas governor dropped out, said Gingrich could not beat President Obama and would cost Republicans many House and Senate seats.
Barbour told The Hill that endorsing Romney and coming to his South Carolina rally was a "very easy decision" because of Gingrich, who he said would turn the presidential race from a referendum on Obama into "the adventures of Newt Gingrich."
"Newt would be a disaster as the nominee," he said. "He will put the House at risk. He will put our chances of taking the Senate down the tubes."
Barbour, who ran his uncle Haley Barbour's successful reelection campaign as Mississippi governor, warned that Gingrich would cost the GOP chances at some governorships as well, and could not beat Obama.
"He's too polarizing a figure to win the White House. He can't win independent voters and we can't win the White House without independent voters. He would be a disaster for our down-ticket candidates and our gubernatorial candidates."
(Remember how they all warned in unison that "Toomey was going to lose in Pennsylvania because of Christine O'Donnell", etc.?...)
Didn’t Barbour just turn a bunch of murderers back out onto the streets?
Notice how the most leftwing senator and radical Marxist was perfectly fine as a candidate four years ago, but a former speaker of the house and majority builder is to polarizing. I hate the DC ‘brainstrust’.
How did that great John McCrap do?
Yep the same stuff they said of Ronald Reagan. This from the guy who just pardoned 4 convicts. These RINOs are more of an embarrassment then I thought they would be. At least we know who they are and how they feel. Newt has smoked them out from under their cover. GO NEWT GO!
I think so. But this hack is his nephew.
Romney is the one who couldn’t turn the election into a referendum on Obama, since there isn’t enough substantive difference between his policies and Obama’s.
“”He will put the House at risk. He will put our chances of taking the Senate down the tubes.” “
THIS is supposed to persuade people to vote for Romney??????????????????????????????????????
(Wondering if this guy had a partial lobotomy....or something....)
How on earth does he figure this? If enough people like Newt’s style, why would they turn around and vote Democrats for Congress and Senate?
I think Haley Blabber needs to sit down and shut up.
After: Romney surrogate says Gingrich could cost establishment-GOP control of Congress.
There, fixed it. I believe Newt would insist that there will be no establishment cry babies controlling the House.
This is the same kind of crap that Brit Hume was puking out last night on Faux-Romney-news.
Seems they have all received their updated “talking points”.
Why would these guys need to tell us this?
If Newt is such a nothing, then he wont win another contest.
But Romney’s flunkies need to spin the biggest scare story possible because they know this is not looking good for Mittins.
Apparently they dont have confidence in his ability to sell himself as a candidate, so they fall back on “vote for him or it shall be DOOM” malarkey.
Doing so right now and with such verbosity only projects panic from their side.
Romeny: the Scorched Earth primary candidate. May his travels (with his travelers) end with the primary...
Nothing is more fun to watch than a RINO running scared.
It is quite a stretch to claim that a Gingrich nomination would lead to a GOP Congressional defeat.
Number one, this idiot is totally wrong, and number two, who the he** cares what he says. I’ve never even heard of him. I wonder if he advised his uncle to pardon murderers?
seems the establishment want a yes man , a liberal social guy so they will not upset their cross dressing homosexual cocktail pals at the next parties.
Well here is a message to the establishment, to FOX, to Romney.
We are fed up of your crap, we want someone who has balls, who will speak up and take on obama, the left and the MSM when they lie and try to pass their agenda.
Isn’t it amazing that the same GOP establishment who has a hard time saying anything bad about Obama is coming after Newt with long knives? I don’t trust any of these people anymore.
Translate: they’ll do everything they can to lose congress if we nominate Newt.
(Remember how they all warned in unison that "Toomey was going to lose in Pennsylvania because of Christine O'Donnell", etc.?...)"
The same people torpedoed Toomey's run against Arlen "Scottish Law" Specter.
This is Henry Barbour, Haley Barbour’s nephew.
Barack the Kenyan did it? Why can't an American do it?
The RINO’s have conveniently forgotten the 2010 elections where the Democrats lost huge to the Tea Party Conservatives in Local, State, and National offices.
Yes, a few RINO’s won in 2010 but the big wins were the Tea Party Conservatives.
The RINO’s are most afraid that a Gingrich nomination would result in huge wins by Conservative GOP candidates and the RINO’s would no longer control the GOP.
This is exactly wrong. It is MITT who does not have the support of the base and will cause reduced R voting enthusiasm. Newt is a lightning rod and will have both sides itching to pull the lever for or against.
Amazing how many people I have lost all respect for...Haley Barber...Niki Haley...Brit Hume...Ann Coulter...

"How on earth does he figure this? If enough people like Newts style, why would they turn around and vote Democrats for Congress and Senate?"
It's a left-wing argument that they've bought into. It's okay for Obama to demolish the country with Eurosocialist-style, leftist policies, but if a candidate runs on Conservatism, then independents will supposedly run away in horror. Never mind the fact, of course, that the last time we had somebody run a Conservative campaign, we won two landslides...
OH! Obama isn’t a polarizing candidate?
OH HENRY!! Really?
Rino’s are all we have left
Not likely, and if anyone is going to lose the house, it will be the GOP considering it hasn’t done one damn thing with it since we awarded to the worthless, useless GOP.
You gotta love the First Amendment. You can say any BS, and others can respond.
In 2008, we went with the ‘safe’, Establishment, candidate and not only got Obama, we got a Democrat filibuster-proof Senate and a huge Democrat majority in the House.
Nominating a candidate that puts the base to sleep does not help ONE BIT when it comes to Congress.
"How did that great John McCrap do?"
Yep. And somehow, despite the fact that the Establishment got their favorite moderate RINO, the GOP got slaughtered in the House and Senate with him at the top of the ticket...
any cost to congress will be BY the GOP members, not Newt
Me to GOP elite RINO’s
Romney nomination will cost you the vote of a life long straight ticket Republican voter.
If by GOP you are referring to the shadow DNC. then yes.
OH NO, My friend Jeppie Barbour’s son, Governor Haley Barbour’s nephew. Friday the Romney camp published a list of elected Republicans who have endorsed him, in the last election I supported all of them, if not in the primary in the general election and supported Rs for the legislature and starewide. I didn’t really expect it of some of them, I expected them to have true Conservative principles but I’ll not hold grudges, just give them a bit more scrutinty next time. I did post my endorsement of Newt under theirs on “Majority in Mississippi”
The real question is, win or lose, did the candidate at least make the case for what your beliefs are and make the case in a clear, understandable fashion?
If you make your best case and lose, at least you lost because people didn’t agree. It is getting tiresome to either lose or to win without anything having been really said of substance. Mitt is platitude central.
Looks like they have abandoned “Only Mitt can win” in favor of scaring us that Newt might cause others to lose. Not even deserving of a “nice try”.
Man, this sounds like Ronald, doesn’t it?
“This is Henry Barbour, Haley Barbours nephew”
Thank you for the correction.
So far these are the only Mississippians I have seen who support Romney, I will probably see a few more at the DeSoto County Republican Club Tuesday night but I do believe they will be in the minority. I expect Newt to carry Mississippi.
"In 2008, we went with the safe, Establishment, candidate and not only got Obama, we got a Democrat filibuster-proof Senate and a huge Democrat majority in the House."
Yep. And I never saw the Dems fretting in 2008 about losing the House and Senate because they were running somebody that appealed much more to their base than a "safer", "more centrist" (relative term, of course) like Hillary Clinton. Nope, they charged ahead and won everything.
We, of course, have a bunch of Trojan Horse (former?) Democrats as pundits and pseudocons stabbing Conservatives in the back, and that's a big part of the difference.
You know, I grew up not five minutes outside of the capital, Washington, DC. Although I know it’s been said before that people who live/work there tend to become isolated and out-of-touch with the rest of the country...it REALLY IS TRUE! I can honestly share that it was more than a SHOCKER for me to discover this myself after I left that area.
Unfortunately, they really have NO CLUE that Americans have finally reached the end of their patience and hope for some intelligent reform of government. They have no idea of how strong that desire is. The people who live in the rest of the country can SEE how the lack of common sense in developing policy has slowly led this nation down the path toward mediocrity and encouraged the psychological and economic slavery of much of our citizenry to the government.
Yes, we citizens must also shoulder part of the blame because we put God on the back-burner of our lives while we busied ourselves with other THINGS. However, as the path leads us closer to some really horrendous realities, we began to wake up. I personally know many people who have confessed their poor choices and have returned to God and Church. Others are also beginning to understand where we are headed, and that it is NOT pretty.
The PEOPLE out here in the real world understand that the problem is not merely economic...but that the CORE of our philosophic identity as a nation blessed by God is at stake. Speaker Gingrich seems to also understand this and is willing to fight the status quo and make some EFFECTIVE changes. He can also EXPLAIN why they are necessary in terms that people can identify with and understand.
Those in the “establishment” or other so-called high places of influence (where elite education and perfect status is VERY envied) will be the last to come around to the truth...but it WILL happen.
Heard Haley Barber, the governor himself, choose Romney this morning on a talk show and listed the wonderful qualities of Romney. /s/
“Mr. Breen, I’m paying for this microphone!”
“We, of course, have a bunch of Trojan Horse (former?) Democrats as pundits and pseudocons stabbing Conservatives in the back, and that’s a big part of the difference. “
That’s a great point. What has to scare The Establishment, even more than losing, is winning with someone not indebted to them. For that could mean a wholesale housecleaning of that bunch.
So, for them, a Romney loss is far better than a Newt win (although a Romney win would be fine, as would a Newt loss).
