SAN CARLOS, Calif. -- A company founded by Neil Young is facing a lawsuit over a fire in the San Francisco Bay Area that authorities say started in a vintage car the rocker had converted into a hybrid vehicle.

The San Jose Mercury News reports that Unigard Insurance Co. sued LincVolt LLC this week, accusing the company of negligence for converting the 1959 Lincoln Continental to run on electricity and a biodiesel-powered generator.

I got mixed feelings about this.

If this had been a routine model of a major automaker, they likely wouldn’t be suing the automaker. But the garage tinkerer gets the shaft. It might seem a sacrilegious thing, but hey it was his car and he ought to have been free to put any thing in it to make it go, including hamsters.
