Gingrich strikes another blow for Obama's re-election
National Post ^ | 1/22/2012 | Kelly McParland

If you were Barack Obama, or one of his advisers, you couldn’t ask for a greater gift than Newt Gingrich’s runaway victory in South Carolina. The Republicans will now be forced to spend the winter absorbing a cutthroat war between Gingrich and Mitt Romney, both forces pouring millions of dollars into high-profile media campaigns to tear down the other, rather than campaigning to defeat Obama next November.

Obama must love this. He barely has to campaign. Both Gingrich and Romney have demonstrated their willingness to be as nasty as it requires to tear down their rival. Now they’ll be going at it for weeks, or months, doing the Democrats’ job for them, and providing juicy material Democratic researchers might not even have been aware of.

I'm beginning to think that all of these nay-sayers need to go back to DU where they belong. They are trolls who are just trying to lay the seeds of every kind of negative attitude they can think of.
Take a hike. Most of us are sick and tired of your socialist crap. Go home to dummies unlimited and stay there.

Well Gingrich HAS been attacking Obama. But the other 2 seem to have a bad aim. Either they’re near-sighted or short-sighted.

Well darn. Sometimes someone else just says it perfectly before you get a chance to post. You said it perfectly. All I can add is that the firing squad does not HAVE to be circular. They could all aim at Obama and we could sit back and judge who had the best aim.

Then again, RS and Mitt know they lose that fight, so they turn circular.

Romney defends his ‘capitalism’ as being same as Obama’s bailing out the auto industry. Nothing ‘circular’ about it.

The good part(if there is one) is they are using up Obama’s ammunition.

By the time either of them runs against Obama the world will have heard everything Obama could use against them.

"Governor Mitt Romney, who touts his conservative credentials to out-of-state Republicans, has passed over GOP lawyers for three-quarters of the 36 judicial vacancies he has faced, instead tapping registered Democrats or independents -- including two gay lawyers who have supported expanded same-sex rights, a Globe review of the nominations has found. Of the 36 people Romney named to be judges or clerk magistrates, 23 are either registered Democrats or unenrolled voters who have made multiple contributions to Democratic politicians or who voted in Democratic primaries, state and local records show. In all, he has nominated nine registered Republicans, 13 unenrolled voters, and 14 registered Democrats." - Boston Globe 7/25/2005

Romney Rewards one of the State's Leading Anti-Marriage Attorneys by Making him a Judge Romney told the U.S. Senate on June 22, 2004, that the "real threat to the States is not the constitutional amendment process, in which the states participate, but activist judges who disregard the law and redefine marriage . . ." Romney sounds tough but yet he had no qualms advancing the legal career of one of the leading anti-marriage attorneys. He nominated Stephen Abany to a District Court. Abany has been a key player in the Massachusetts Lesbian and Gay Bar Association which, in its own words, is "dedicated to ensuring that the Massachusetts Supreme Judicial Court decision on marriage equality is upheld, and that any anti-gay amendment or legislation is defeated." - U.S. Senate testimony, 6/22/2004

"Romney announces he won't fill judicial vacancies before term ends Despite his rhetoric about judicial activism, Romney announced that he won't fill all the remaining vacancies during his term - but instead leave them for his liberal Democrat successor! Governor Mitt Romney pledged yesterday not to make a flurry of lame-duck judicial appointments in the final days of his administration . . . David Yas, editor of Lawyers Weekly, said Romney is "bucking tradition" by resisting the urge to fill all remaining judgeships. "It is a tradition for governors to use that power to appoint judges aggressively in the waning moments of their administration," Yas said. He added that Romney has been criticized for failing to make judicial appointments. "The legal community has consistently criticized him for not filling open seats quickly enough and being a little too painstaking in the process and being dismissive of the input of the Judicial Nominating Commission," Yas said. - Boston Globe 11/2/2006

I do not get the writer’s logic.

The MSM which do Barry’s dirty work thought their best shot against Newt was Marianne Gingrich and her open marriage charge in a conservative southern state like South Carolina.

If that mud did not stick in South Carolina, it ain’t going to stick anywhere else.

Barry has to be worried if he has to debate his record which is indefensible.

If Newt gets the nomination, Newt will be fully innoculated from any dirt Barry can throw at him and the politics of personal destruction will have little effect.

Newt will not have to attack Barry personally, all he has to do, is quote Rick Perry.

Are we better off today than we were three trillion dollars ago or whatever number it is.

A protracted primary season equals free publicity in the form of debates and election coverage. Once the primary is over, the GOP candidate will have to pay for every last bit of (good) publicity. Frankly, the longer it lasts, the better. There will be plenty of time to campaign after the convention.

Nonsense. The protracted Hillary/Zero fight didn’t do anything to hurt the ‘rats four years ago; in fact, contrary to Rush’s bloviation, the contest only focused attention and intensified interest in the democrat contest - lasting for months while the already decided republican nominee sat unnoticed and uncared for out of the spotlight.

Gentlemen and Ladies,

If you can cast your vote for Rotney despite an open record like this, you are no Republican, you are no Conservative, and you are no American.

It’s called a presidential primary. They’re supposed to fight it out, to be the people’s choice as the best person for the job.

Moronic article.

I get the impression that the Republicans come off looking dynamic, active, involved, engaged, the public is watching these debates and hearing a pretty diverse, passionate collection of ideas and plans.

I’m not convinced that this isn’t an effective advertising campaign for a Republican option to the indifferent, regal, forever golfing and vacationing figure of a cold President who doesn’t even know what we are enduring out here, in this great recession.

The circular firing squad continues. We waste ammunition on each other, instead of attacking Hussein Obama.

Did you watch the debates on Thursday night? There was only one guy on that stage who was shooting all of his ammo at his fellow Republicans. The other three were taking it to Obama all night.

I don't want to mention any names, but his initials are R.S.

Some of the most conservative, morally conscious people in the country just gave him a landslide.

The primary drama only attracts more attention and when people start listening to what Newt is arguing for, they will buy it. Newt’s speeches and town hall meeting are wonderful.

Newt does have high negatives right now, but when compared to Obama’s pathetic record, most voters will side with us.

He is still a better alternative than Mitt who will be demonized as super rich fat cat who doesn’t care. Even many Republicans don’t trust Mitt, how much more will the average voter distrust him once the Obama machine starts to shred him?
