Just the opposite. The Tea Party will turn out in waves to vote and pull the straight “R” ticket. Look at the 30% increase in SC over 2008.

A Mitt con-job into the nomination keeps the base un-inspired and that 30% stays home.

It is for sure that Newt has had a low favor ability nationally, but that has something to do with the media. They pounced on him while he was the Speaker of the House.

One thing we cannot deny is that he took this nation by storm with the Contract With America back in 1994.

I fully expect him to reintroduce something like it this year and have house and senate candidates pledge to complete the items on the contract if elected to a majority.

Clinton was able to use the economy as the strength of his platform two times (i.e., “it's the economy, stupid”). We are worse off now than we were four years ago, so Newt can simply steal the economic agenda from Obama and trounce him with it.

If Newt really pushes for lower taxes, cutting waste and balancing the budget, we will win this thing running away. Another thing I want to see is a pledge to stop adding pork, and the introduction of a constitutional amendment to that same effect. Sure, he has some areas that some don't like, but he is an amazing organizer, and will get us out of this mess.

It is quaint how they think that if Romney is the nominee that we are all expected to vote for him no matter what?

They haven’t even given it a thought yet, that if we pick another, we expect them to vote for our nominee.

If people wanted Romney, he would be winning everything now.

Their goofy small minds can’t even comprehend it yet.

Someone on another board pointed out that neither Newt nor Santorum have qualified as a candidate in enough states to take the nomination. If Romney does not win, it will have to be a brokered convention. As I understand it, that means that any candidate can be pushed forward. This person was speculating that it would be Jeb Bush.

I disagree with this analysis.

It's more likely that this is Newt's time and he is the best choice out of the available field.

In the 2008 an unknown Obama lied and BSed his way through the campaign using an uplifting but empty promise of “Hope and Change”. The worshipful media helped him hide just what he meant by change.

We now know what this guys is all about and in the 2012 Obama is going to revert to his previous mode as a mean, nasty and divisive campaigner who uses lies , smears and dirty tricks to win.

The McCain / Romney non confrontational and respectful “High Road” is not going to be a winning strategy for this election. Newt is like Sara Palin in that he seems to have an innate talent for dealing with the Obama media and it's smears and lies and turning these dirty tricks against them.

Newt has a few negatives for sure, but this ability to stand up to the lies smear and dirty tricks of the Obama campaign and it's surrogates in the media is going to be vital in what promises to be the meanest and dirtiest campaign in modern history.

This election is going to be all about getting what is left of the middle class to understand that Obama is destroying the middle class to create a permanent welfare class living in a welfare state and getting motivating them to vote for traditional American values and not Obama style ‘change’.

No way can Romney do this. He is targeting the Daily Kos/Huffington Post/DU wing of the Democrat party. The America hating, Marxist/Socialist Democrat left wing Romney is trying to target is never going to vote Republican, ever.

Really? The RNC worried about about Newt's effect down ballot?

Those down the ballot should be worried about the RNC keeping their word... Don't ask...

The GOP playing that same tired old tune- “If we can’t win with the one we’ve anointed, we’ll play the fear card”.

The RINO brass trashed tea party candidates across the country in the 2010 elections. The only reason the RINO trash controls the House now is because the Tea Party voted in enough conservative candidates to give the RINO pigs enough new conservative members to take control.

What the RINO thieves are concerned about are the imminent trials that will send a bunch of them and their Rat buddies to prison.

Wonder how many “prominent Republicans”..and their “donors”...have their investments with Bain?

Could indeed be a “down-ticket” disaster...but not in the same way most might ....

I remember the effect Newt had on the “down ballot” races in 1994.

Yeah, just like in Nov of 2010. The voters rejected the Conservative voices and sent the dims back to the house - - - Oh wait. Never mind.

It appears as though the Republican brass has adopted Obama’s “fear and loathing” tactic.

“If you don’t vote for our guy, terrible things will happen!”
