Brian Williams cures my insomnia every time.LOL
Tacticslly, Newt is a step and a half ahead of Romney.
Strategically, Gingrich is in a different league.
NBC attempts to neutralize Newt by taking the crowd applause out (thus boring us to death)....Newt switches gears and is accommodating and Presidential...
Both winning the debate with back to back singles and gaining some minor credibility with the conservative element of the Establishment, giving them ammo to stop attempts to bring in a relief pitcher like Daniels.
True! Although it's been the conservative frontrunner who has been taken down time and time again, not the moderate frontrunner (Mitt). Which speaks to how much the establishment wants to promote and protect moderate candidates, those that they view as more media friendly perhaps.
Maybe best to be a close 2nd and rack up enough delegates and fly slightly under the radar LOL. Being a frontrunner is dangerous!
True again! And Santorum looks to have benefited from that tonight, although i don't think he has enough money or organization at this point to really make much headway. He did look good in this debate, i'll give him that. But no one is really gunning for him at this point, for as you say he's "flying under the radar", so that makes it easier to come out looking good. Still, he finally seemed to get the right tone. Assertive and at times forceful without sounding whiny and pompous (at least from the bits i saw of the debate).
In the end, this one probably doesnt change much.
I hope you're right. I've felt nervous about this debate all day for some reason, and perhaps that caused me to think Gingrich was doing worse than he really did. It was a boring debate. Doubt all that many viewers watched the whole thing. My concern is that many of them may have only watched the beginning where to me Gingrich was at his weakest.
Sounds like they did to Newt in the 90’s what they did to Palin in Alaska with the 100’s of frivilous ankle-biting lawsuits.
However, Newt has gone on to live another day.
As far as being an “influence peddler” — I’d rather Newt’s influence be peddled than some smarmy Democrat/progressive’s influence.
What’s so bad about being influential?
At the beginning, they were told no applause, cheering, etc.
That’s wrong, IMO. But it’s obvious why NBC did that.
No wire at hotel...
I don’t doubt Newt would have, since he was obviously going down that track....
If Jeb’s got any smarts, he’d better know he ought not.
Newt’s campaign motto should be this:
BEAT ME IF YOU CAN! SURVIVE IF I LET YOU!
(For all you pro wrestling fans, this was ECW champion Taz’s catch phrase.)
Rack another one up for Newt.....
Santorum was right, that on three of the hot-button issues of the Tea Party, Gingrich was with Romney on the wrong side.
Like TARP. Like the individual mandate.
Unfortunate that Iowa couldn’t count their votes so Santorum didn’t get credit for winning Iowa, and that freepers who could forgive Newt for Dede Scozafosa, cheating on two wives, sitting on a couch with Pelosi, and agreeing with John Kerry about the GOP and global warming, couldn’t forgive Santorum for supporting his fellow republican senator in a primary.
Did Gingrich endorse someone in that 2004 primary?
We probably have no choice but to support Gingrich now, but I’d love to keep Santorum in the race in case Gingrich implodes or screws up. It would be a sad day for conservatives if we chase Santorum out of the race to help Newt and then Newt screws up and we end up stuck with Romney because we chased all the other conservatives out of the race.
After winning a boatload of cash, he suddenly remembered that she wanted to die all along?
BS. And he WILL answer for it to the Highest Judge.
Oh, you know it!
“I thought the audience response added a lot to the last debate.”
Of course it did - for Newt. And they can’t have that. Mittens is their guy.
I don’t think that’s a totally fair assessment of this
horrendous tragedy and murder, and Jeb Bush’s part. I think he did all in his constitutional power as someone who took the oath as a governor could. Would a full frontal, unconstitutional, bold physical conflict and assault have been the preferred alternative ..... ? Can’t say I wasn’t fervently wishing, praying for a Chuck Norris swoop in, taking her to the safety of her loving parents, but ..
When you have demons like Michael Schiavo and Judge
Greer and godless politicians and judges, there may’ve been
no end to their evil mission. Only God knows.
It’s just a grossly sickening, despicable chapter in our country. I still physically cringe at the thought. God love you, Terri .. you’ll never be forgotten.
Take small comfort in the fate that awaits Michael .. someOne else has their sights on him and the equally evil Judge Greer. God will not be mocked.
On Sept. 17, 2003, a Florida court authorized Schiavo to remove his wife’s tube. On Oct. 15, 2003, the tube was removed and Terri began a slow death by dehydration. Six days after that, Gov. Bush signed a law enacted by the Florida legislature allowing him to issue a one-time .. stay of the court order ... that authorized the removal of Terri’s nutrition-and-hydration tube.
Bush ordered the tube restored, and Terri is alive today.
This week, however, the U.S. Supreme Court refused to accept Bush’s appeal of a Florida Supreme Court decision that overturned what became known as Terri’s Law.
Every time Newt is speaking and Romney looks at him, I see him thinking, “Damn, I wish I had said that - he’s smart as hell - and I’m not.”
I don’t understand why anyone would vote early in a primary. General election, sure.
or the Republican “elite” establishment
Rita, the establishment is exposing their truest fear by pushing the ridiculous canard that Newt will cost the GOP the House and any chance at the senate. The only danger we have of losing the House is if Boehner and McConnell keep trying to work with Obama, Pelosi and Reid. The dealing in 1 year since the Tea Party victory is simply a disaster, and the responsibility lies at the feet of the establishment Republicans.
From my viewpoint the all-out war in the GOP is already started. If the establishment succeeds in defeating Newt, they succeed in defeating themselves. This is the revelation. Better to take down the conservatives and suffer defeat too, than to let the conservatives win and not only suffer defeat, but suffer long-term, if not permanent, banishment. The establishment IS the entrenched power that Newt is talking about.
The establishment made the embarassing, inexplicable deal that Boehner and McConnell struck in December 2010 with a lame duck congress, the deal that was supposed to cut $100B and we had to have a hell of a fight to keep the Bush tax law in place. We found out there were no cuts. The entrenched establishment had that embarassing showing this past August over the government shutdown, again over tax increases, and no spending cuts. Boehner, Pelosi McConnell and Reid are all part of the same hypocritical criminal enterprise that is killing our country. Now those same criminals are readying to give Obama another $1.2T this year and there is not even a fart over it. This is what is killing us!
We know that when Newt rose to power, all hell broke loose over the Contract with America, and Newt had to do most of the fighting himself. He drove the balanced budgets, welfare reform, tax cuts, and drove Clinton screaming and crying to the middle. Newt was the reason for “Triangulation”. He pushed the Clinton Impeachment. Without him, we would have had President Gore in 2000. The worthless Republican senate had no guts and never forgave Newt for embarassing them. These are the real reasons for that phony baloney ethics issue where over 80 baseless charges were thrown out. I remember that and I get so mad rethinking it now.
Newt is the establishment’s worse nightmare, and that is the source of the war we are now going to fight.
You’re right as rain on the immigration issue. There was never a thread of difference between Perry’s approach and anyone elses. In fact, I smirk when Santorum gets so high and mighty on the question. No matter what is said, the doing is something else if you are a capitalist and believe in free enterprise. The tuition thing was all income to Texas with no debt, and with all the promise of making tax payers instead of tax evaders out of kids now with degrees, who had paid there own way. How bad is that? It’s reason and logic and conservative fiscal commitment which spells PROFIT.
Willard will try these same putdowns to Newt the next debate. The gloves come off and Newt let’s him have it with both barrels. I thought tonight when Willard said he had governed Mass as a conservative that Newt or Santorum would make him pay, but they let him off the hook. The father of homosexual marriage in America and 50 dollar abortions in his RomneyCare governed exactly like the liberal he is. Hopefully this will all be brought up at the next debate.
Since it’s run and owned by Jim Robinson.
I don’t know ANYTHING about the truth of the rumor, just that it’s been mentioned on another thread; I was actually trying to tone it down.
I was flabbergasted when I read it, too.
They asked for the audience to be silent. So we didn’t hear the applause that would normally have come Newt’s way if they had been able to applaud.
Rue P. would have gotten booed every time he opened his mouth.
And Romnuts would certainly have been dissed for his petty and incessant attack on Newt, which got him exactly NOWHERE!
class of 1999 and zotted, we sure are losing a lot of long time freepers.
Florida is a classic case where I wish the media would actually report useful information. I keep hearing snippets that say 1/3rd of the ballots have already been cast.
If that’s true - and GOD I hate to say this - Newt has almost no chance. He’d have to beat Mitt by AT LEAST 6 or 7% with the reamining 2/3rds since the polls when those ballots were cast showed Romney with a huge lead.
But is it true? It would be nice if the media would report some actual facts for a change.
I’ve been pondering Andrea Mitchells’ - and for y’all who don’t know, she’s been married to Alan Greenspan for 83 years - subdued and hesitant assessment of the debate, particularly Newt, and it struck me she was probably galvanized that Paul might capitulate to Newt.
Talk about the elite jumping out of windows.
“0 is shaking again tonite and on his knees praying: oh lordie
lordie.. send newt away for a long vacation pls pls!”
Close...but he’s praying to Allah.
Newt didn’t have any influence to peddle. As Romney himself pointed out, Newt was overthrown by a “coup” of republicans. Time now shows us they were moderates, who never saw a spending bill they didn’t like, but who in their right mind would think that big-spending republicans would be backstabbing their speaker who had just blocked their spending ways and balanced the budget.
Yes, because it will be one hell of a fight to overcome the GOP establishment. I have said for many years that we first must kill the elephant and grow us a new, conservative one before we can truly slay the donkey.
I think Newt has got his safari suit on, his elephant gun loaded, and he is out hunting old, diseased elephants who are ruining the terrain. He is making way for new, healthy elephants. The donkeys soon will be cowering in the corner as they will soon be trampled.
Thanks. The really big case here where he showed his contempt towards the party, and the voters in general, was the Trans-Texas Corridor. It was an INSANE idea from the start, and near the end 90% of the state was against it, including, of course, most Republicans.
...but it wasn’t until Kay Bailey Hutchison started using it against him in her futile run for governor that he finally disowned it. In other words, only when he saw his own political future threatened did he stop (or, really, semi-stop, he’s still doing it, though more quietly). For conservatives, that’s all we had to see to fully understand him. That’s also why he made that ‘heartless’ comment...it really was what he thought of people that dare to question him.
75% of the people voted for a conservative.
I am THE conservative that can beat Barack Obama.
Gingrich will be an acceptable President — if he can get there. Right now, he can take a plurality of republicans, mostly because as Rush explained today, republicans aren’t voting for Gingrich, but for his attacks against the media.
But Gingrich has terrible negatives. He has serious damage from his time in the 90s, and those negatives won’t be swept under the rug by the general electorate because he attacks liberal journalists.
So if he CAN win, I’ll be happy that he does. But I am not yet convinced he can win the general election, nor am I convinced he’ll actually survive long enough to win the nomination.
But what do I know, I was still hoping Perry could pull it off, because I did think Perry could have won a general election.
But what do we have now? It is scary how many respectable conservatives have either rejected Gingrich, or worse started to come out endorsing Romney.
DITTO! I like it.
Newt did very well, except ... he should have been prepared with a quick response to Romney's Medicare Part D accusation. He was not prepared, so he punted. Newt is blameless on the topic, but was knocked back on his heels and didn't respond well.
I’ve been planning to make a ‘breakfast’ apple pie. I think I’ll do it tomorrow and have the first 1/4 with emeril’s special K-cup coffee. [Breakfast pie gets flavor from spice enhanced by a little extra salt and less sugar, using honey for sweetener. I don’t think it would even blip a diabetic.]
Election times brings out the worst in some people.
“Wanted Palin to enter, then hoped Cain would follow through on his surge, but...”
“Now I see problems with all those left, but the most important thing is to get Obama out of the WH.”
The “’problem’ with all those left” is that every single one of them has an actual record! A record of DECADES of heavy national consequence, and SUBSTANTIAL votes cast, and decisions of enormous magnitude and all made with the entire WORLD watching. And you liked plucky Palin and Cain.
Well, well. Talking the walk is no replacement for what you see before you on the stage between those who walked the walk. The record is being used against Newt who did a magnificent job of historic proportion in ‘94, more than anyone in history for the Republicans, so casting ho-hums grates my nerves personally. Just sayin’.
You’re still externalizing.
WE, THE PEOPLE, are going to win the election and it simply doesn’t matter who we carry to victory.
Put another way, if you find yourself with an infestation of rats and roaches because people who carry and bring those suddenly moved in all around you, would you care who the exterminator was? No. You care about what chemical army he brought to wipe them out.
We’re the army, the chemical, to neutralize the rats and rinos. It doesn’t matter WHO we run with as long as they are persistent in spotlighting our targets for us.
As a Perry supporter, I am actually more pleased that we will carry Newt to victory. Newt can’t wait to articulate what America was before enemies, foreign and domestic, took her down in 2008.
Actually, I heard this morning that there were more votes cast in FL by this morning than all of Iowa. Romney’s campaign sent out absentee ballots, but that does not mean they had to vote for him.
“...he should have been prepared with a quick response to Romney’s Medicare Part D accusation. He was not prepared, so he punted. Newt is blameless on the topic, but was knocked back on his heels and didn’t respond well.”
No, he got the retired Florida vote when he said he was for Medicare Part D, spoke for it when it was added, and his reason for being for it was right. If you were 65 or older, you would know we can’t pay the high price of these medicines that keep us alive. Without Part D, many of us would die and that is the truth.
One of my husband’s medicines was $600 a month. With his part D Medicare, he paid $5 a month plus what his Part D insurance cost him per month. Some medicines are so expensive, people would die without that insurance.
I understand when Part D is dumped on, but I also know the elderly, even if they have a good income, can’t pay $600 a month for just one medicine. I don’t know the answer for this, but I know what Part D does to save lives.
Jeb Bush is a sneaky go along to get along creep. He refused to do the one thing that would have changed the dynamic from trying to defend Terri’s right to live, to someone would have had to openly condemn her as useless, which the democrats and their death panel mentality is not yet ready to do. Jeb Bush, as Governor of Florida, could have issued a pardon/stay of execution. I know she had not been sentenced to death, but the colluding criminal judge’s order was in effect just that, a death sentence. A Governor’s pardon would have changed the dynamic (who can recind a Governor’s pardon?) and perhaps changed the course of death by health panel edict forever in this country. When someone defends Jeb Bush, you know they’re not pro-life, they’re politically motivated.
Who was it that actually accomplished the first Republican Congress in 40 years(a plan he worked on for a long time)? I know that Newt has a plan to help sweep additional Senators and members of the House in with him.
The RNC and the GOP E has shown that they don't have a clue in that regard. 2010 was more TEA Party, Palin etc than RNC/establishment. Their attempt at a second contract with America was a marketing failure, and they didn't get candidates trained very well to stick to the message.
If the GOP E doesn't smash Newt, I think he can win decisively and win the the majorities he needs. Then we will have to watch them all like hawks to make sure they do it. JMO
Palin had an excellent record as a reformer who fought corruption and was a solid governor of Alaska.
Sorry .. I can’t get into that hate pit with you.
Rush believes those 250,000 early votes are possibly the only votes Romney will get. Romney is being openly mocked now, by the reports of media, that he spent 2.5 million in South Carolina, where you can blanket the placee for $350,000, and that he spent 7.0 million in Florida since SEPTEMBER, and he drops like a rock and goes into Florida 10,11 points DOWN from Newt who has been on a shoe string!! LOL! I know, I don’t like that early voting ruse either.
