Newt Gingrich's decision today to bash Mitt Romney for hiring former Charlie Crist loyalists and employees doesn't seem to be sitting well with Sen. Marco Rubio, who drove Crist out of the Republican Party before beating him at the polls in 2010.
Said Rubio: "Mitt Romney is no Charlie Crist. Romney is a conservative. and he was one of the first national Republican leaders to endorse me. He came to Florida, campaigned hard for me, and made a real difference in my race."
Well I guess that puts the subject to bed. They didn’t become citizens before he was born so, he’s not NBC, and therefore, not qualified for president.
Amen, and it's not just true of politics. Its true at every level of business or industry. It's called relationships and it drives every aspect of the grown up world. Maybe that's the problem, I said the grown up world....
Slap me with a wet fish.
We're trying to dethrone a Marxist psychopath and all we can do is argue about who's the most conservative?
People! Let's get some perspective here.
We’ll see, if he’s going to endorse anyone now would be the time to do so. He may instead try to play both sides, like a politician would.
Pardon me for butting in, but I will happily answer your question, as a long time Florida resident and voter.
Charlie Crist was NEVER a Republican favorite, much less an “overwhelming favorite” at any time, in any mind but his own, and other former Democrats who cowardly abandoned their party to socialists and communists.
RINOs have been dropping like dead flies for a reason.
Maybe it was just being respectful. I don't know.
In the political world, things are strange.
Are you talking about Santorum? If so, what is your source?
I thought he was something of a protege of Jeb Bush?
I’ve always reserved any judgment on him pending that working its way out or not.
I’m not turning on Rubio for this.
Where was Gingrich during the 2010 elections? Apart from consulting.
At least Rove and others put their PAC’s to use and campaigned for conservative candidates?
“Marco Rubio is wrong. Anyone else beside me glad hes not in this race after making a statement like that?”
Yes.
The problem is not that Romney is Charlie Christ, it is that he used to be Charlie Christ and only convieniently became Ronald Reagan the day after he left elected office and started running for president. Now, we have no idea what he would be when elected, other than the man who invented Obamacare.
:-)
“Defending yourself or attacking Mitt are wastes of time!”
I think Bush 2 took that position as well.
That ‘high road’ led to Obama.
Genghis Khan knew how to deal with enemies. Bush 2 did not.
Not a surprise. When Rubio refused to support Arizona 1070 I knew he was no conservative.
Accurate and concise post, sir.
Bingo, we always have to be watching what they do.
“I never understood the fascination with Rubio “
He benefits from the current Republican love affair with latinos. A lot of conservatives who drink GOP koolaid were quick to jump on the Rubio bandwagon.
Thank you.
“Newt is no conservative.
Santorum is the only one left.”
Santorum is less conservative than Newt. NONE of these guys are hardcore conservative. Newt has the best record of those who remain.
Dead on.
“I never understood the fascination with Rubio”
I think because he is perceived as a magic talisman to reach Latins, just as Condoleeza Rice and before her, Colin Powell were expected to magically bridge the gap in communication between Republicans and most minorities. It is a flawed concept rooted the Bush 1 years.
Ronald Reagan, Jack Kemp, Newt Gingrich and others were more correct in taking the longer and harder routes of explanation and persuasion.
“Maybe that’s the problem, I said the grown up world...”
Yeah, that’s it Eddy, you’re the only friggin grown up around here.
So why don’t you waddle off to the mirror and go admire yourself a bit before squeezing out another magnificent post for our edification.
“I posted a week ago here, that Romney IS JUST A CHARLIE CRIST.”
Mmmmm, not quite. If you were a guest at Crist’s house, he would at least offer coffee with caffeine. Crist is better. Barely.
Sorry but I refuse to put any eggs in Romney's basket. No, Rubio... Romney is NOT a conservative! Not even democrats consider Romney to be conservative. The democrats in the northeast call Olympia Snowe a conservative but NEVER accused Romney of being one. That's quite telling. In the eyes of the liberals Romney may be acceptable (if he was not such a flip flopper) but Olympia Snowe? She's "too conservative".
Marco Rubio claims Romney is a conservative?
Wow!
Yes indeed! I'd like to know exactly what Rubio would cite on his list of "conservative" accomplishments by Romney, other than campaigning for him. Some of these Republicans mouth the words, "Romney is a conservative," but I never see an itemized list from them of actions he has taken in his political career to further conservatism. Other than giving money to and campaigning for them. But when Romney was in office -- WHAT, exactly, did he do to advance conservatism?
No matter how one feels about Newt, no matter how many crappy things he's done politically, it's also true that one can cite hard-core instances where he has furthered the cause of conservatism in the U.S. If someone mouths the words, "Gingrich is a conservative," you might reasonably reply, "Well, yeah, at least some of the time," and be telling the truth.
But one could not reasonably or truthfully say that about Romney, as far as I know. I have yet to read about or come across ONE SINGLE INCIDENT of where Romney actually used his political office to advance limited government or social conservatism.
Rubio's phrase "Romney is a conservative" is an oxymoron.
His answer: Got married, had children and got a job.
I'm staying away from Romney. Sorry, Marco.
Kemp? I hardly think so. He turned out to be a moralizing scold, a self-righteous supporter of illegal aliens who insulted and fought the Californians who passed Prop 187.
Other than that, yours is an excellent post.
LOVE IT!
Excellent Point!
I would wonder about your taking offense to the phrase “grown up” - since I did not specify anyone with it - but that you took offense to that particular part answers the question.
Fair enough. Love your tagline, btw.
Buh-bye Marco Rubio. I liked you better before I got to know you so well. See ya, wouldn’t want to be ya.
You got it right! Marco Rubio did not endorse Romney. Neither did he kick him to the curb after Romney came out to support him. Nor did he endorse or kick to the curb Newt Gingrich.
Rubio followed a proper protocol. His Cuban community is strongly pro-Gingrich. For all we know, Rubio may be in Newt’s corner and for that reason he stopped short of endorsing Romney. You analyzed this one spot on.
The point is that compromising principle in exchange for popularity is a destructive vice. Conservatism is good for everyone. We should seek to educate those willing to learn but there's no need to "sell" our policies. They are patently good and we should treat them as such.
Amen to that! I just never suspected Marco Rubio as one of them. He's lost me.
LOL!! Very good!
“Even a prostitute was given the honor by God of being the first person to see the Risen Christ.”
A former prostitute. A repentant and forgiven -former- prostitute.
Just for the record.
Oh, it’s your officious self-important tone I suppose. Or just the fact that jackasses annoy me.
Which part of “totally repudiate Romney” seems to disagree with you?
“At least Rove and others put their PACs to use and campaigned for conservative candidates?”
I remember that. But Mike Castle lost.
Good, then keep him seeing voters had no play in it. Too clueless that romney has been roaming around looking for conservatives to support - so he would have their support on his intended run for president.
It must s**k to be a clueless politician and be played by a con man because he gave you candy.
Gaahhh!! I didn't think of that! GOOD POINT, pnsn!
Great advice. My feelings exactly. Newt needs to pound & pummel 0dumb0shit like he is our worst enemy...whicn in this case, 0dumb0 is our worst enemy for our nation. I hope Newt beats the sh_t out of 0dumb0 every day!
“I believe I speak for most, if not all freepers when I say, we don’t hate Romney, but we hate his politics, we hate the attempt to manipulate us into voting for him, we hate the dishonesty of the GOP in pushing him...”
Good post. Hopefully it will be considered ‘grown up’ enough to explain your principled position to accomodationists.
For the record though, I -do- detest Romney, who strikes me as being every bit the predatory narcissist and sociopath that Obama is. Obama is poison, and that is boldly marked on the label. Romney too is poison, but the label has been marked “WHOLESOME!”, and the bottle left in the refrigerator.
Go back and see the post to which I was responding. Then go take a look at the title of this thread. Those are two big clues. I’m glad I could help.
He did turn out that way. Sadly, Dick Armee has as well. I prefer to remember them all from when they were on their ‘A’ games.
Most politicians seem to lose their way when they miss that cardinal direction we all crave: to the greatest extent possible, get the hell out of our lives and give freedom a chance.
