NEVER believe what you read in the HuffPo.

Endorsements mean little, if they did Romney would have won three primaries instead of one.

Crowds are what is more important than endorsements, and when Newt is drawing thousands and Mitt is drawing hundreds that tells one everything one needs to know.

Newt be doing fine with or without endorsements.

The right endorsements mean a lot.

In IA for example Van Der Plaats’ backing of Santorum was crucial. I doubt he’d have won without it, or surged as much as he did towards the end.

Charlie Crist’s endorsement of McCain in FL back in 2008 was decisive and delivered the state for him according to many.

Perry’s endorsement helped Newt in SC, a few pts, but hta made a difference. Winning by 12-13 looks a lot better than 7-8.

We saw in the 2010 primaries how endorsements had an impact in the various races. There are many examples.

Romney’s just had the wrong endorsements.

US 2012: Romney ‘Will not be Nominee’(Bob Vander Plaats switching to Newt?)

I sold reverse mortgages in a previous life. They are government backed and a good deal for a certain type of senior. Do you realize that the borrower has no mortgage payments in such an arrangement and are able to access a good portion of their equity?

Newt should have had his response to the SOTU up as a video ASAP. http://www.newt.org/news/newt-gingrich-response-state-union

He has to have as large a internet presence as possible.

That means getting clips out and up front; not slick, overproduced campaign style commercials, just get in front of the camera and articulate his positions on policy and latest political developments, in 2-3 minutes.

A video response to Obama, up front and on the net, would have been a great start.

I just searched for any new video clips on him and found nothing but filtered opinion and biased negative BS. That needs to change.

If this pans out, it’s absolutely fantastic!

The Establishment has been touting the fact that Romney has so many Congressional endorsements. Frankly, there haven’t been that many for him, when you look at how many could have been for him. And, the nasty endorsers have been FORMER Reps. And, Ann Coulter. And, Chris Christie.

I love it when a plan comes together. ;o)

I wrote this on another thread... and thank you, 2ndDivisionVet, **SO MUCH** for posting your link to that thread!

This is significant.

I've been saying for some time that if Newt Gingrich is going to be the Republican nominee, we have some serious and difficult work to do to keep Christian conservatives from jumping ship or, more likely, quietly failing to work hard for the candidate.

Vander Plaats may just be the right man to do that work.

The endorsement of the major national Christian leaders would carry more weight, but many of them run nonprofit 501(c)3 organizations or pastor large churches and therefore routinely work “under the radar” with personal statements of who they will support rather than public endorsements which, though perfectly legal if done as private individuals, could attract unwanted IRS scrutiny of their organizations or churches. I don't see the major heads of organizations who have come out backing Santorum changing their endorsement anytime soon, and the smaller groups didn't come out very publicly after the Texas conference and can't be expected to do so now, either.

However, a decision by Bob Vander Plaats to switch his support to Newt Gingrich would attract my attention for three reasons:

1) The Vander Plaats endorsement was key to Huckabee and Santorum’s performance in Iowa.

2) It's not a new thing. Vander Plaats said months ago that while the former speaker's personal life was a consideration that lots of Christians were dealing with, “Since four or five years ago, he’s shown a very transparent grace and maturity... He’s been married to Callista for over a decade. He’s healed his relationship with his children.”

http://www.slate.com/blogs/weigel/2011/12/20/santorum_surge_watch_the_vander_plaats_ening.html

3. Perhaps most important, those who are familiar with the Dutch Reformed world know the tremendous emphasis placed in those circles on marriage issues. Excommunication for unbiblical divorce used to be routine and sexual sins are still treated with great seriousness. That is not always the case in a significant part of the evangelical world.

I'm not trying to imply that the Dutch are better at saving marriages than non-Dutch evangelicals — I grew up in Grand Rapids, used to live in Iowa, and know very well that's **NOT** true — but I am saying that marital failures often get severely punished. Cheap grace is not something associated with the Dutch. For that reason, a Vander Plaats endorsement for Gingrich may carry significance with other conservative Christian leaders since it won't be possible to dismiss it as coddling sin or treating it lightly.

In summary: If we're going to have Gingrich as our nominee, I want Vander Plaats and a lot of people like him making that case loudly and clearly. Gingrich is going to need that to get and keep evangelical votes.

Gingrich will get annihilated. The only question will be how badly we do in the House and Senate because of him.

No worries....FR conservatives are enjoying the Gingrich show right now. They are beating their chests and calling out all who oppose Gingrich.

Such raw anger will turn into sad introspection in November if Newt is the nominee.

Instead of this election being about Obama’s failures, this election will be about Gingrich and his personal troubles.

Amazing how 'fit' the GOP establishment is when they see the need to gossip about someone they declare NOT fit but ignore the literal depravity of the one sitting in the White House.... What a bunch of hypocrites!!!!!

I notice how important the GOP establishment figures Independents to be, but Independents like to test the wind direction and the GOP establishment is NOT going to curry their favor running a 1%er when liberals get done 'occupying' him. Oh Independents buy gas and groceries and selling them Obama lite is NOT going to win an election.

What is this “GOP establishment” mantra?

It’s really so silly.

NEWT IS THE ESTABLISHMENT.

You don’t become Speaker of the House, get a Freddie Mac consulting gig for your political connections, and work as a Fox political consultant if you are an OUTSIDER!

You folks are something else. Grow up. THINK.

Newt is a Carnival Barker saying all the things you want to hear, tapping into all of your hatred of the media and the “establishment” when HE is one of them!

Pathetic. FR has become DU for extremist conservative ideologues.

How old are you? Newt has never been part of the GOP establishment, and if you were paying attention to when he led the charge nationally calling for that 'Contract with America' that returned the peoples house to US you would know this. Newt's sins would NOT be the dribble of the Jon Stewart media IF he were one of the 'establishment'. Now I do admit when Newt sat next to Nancy the red commie and said the era of Reagan was over he was trying his best to become a member of the 'establishment'. But how did that work out for him, we conservatives have made him to account for that, because it sure did not gain him any 'establishment' sprinkled 'gravitas'.

Newt would have never been hired on Fox IF he was NOT a profit for them, but look how quickly they have done their best to make him appear like a 'carnival barker'.

And if it's Mitt the election will be a referendum on Wall Street millionaires...do we like 'em or not? If it's Santorum, the election is a referendum on whether we will allow abortion in the case of rape or incest or not. Do you think Obama's billion dollars worth of ads are going to be talking about Obama's record in any case?

Now I do admit when Newt sat next to Nancy the red commie and said the era of Reagan was over

He did not say that. That is another piece of the GOP-E spin set up to cut the legs off his candidacy last year. He simply said he was working on new Contract with America ideas because we're dealing with new issues in the post-Reagan, post-Bush era. He literally meant time had passed since their presidencies occurred. To reference this statement as something controversial is nothing more than dishonest spin of the same kind Romney is doing on Newt's record now.
