Posted on 01/25/2012 6:39:33 AM PST by Comrade Brother Abu Bubba
The Department of Interior recently announced a five-year leasing plan that would open areas of the Gulf of Mexico to oil and natural gas development. While new opportunities for drilling are welcomed, this plan is a significant reduction from previous plans and continues to place areas such as the Atlantic and Pacific coasts, as well as the Eastern gulf of Mexico, off limits.
In fact, this plan would open far less acreage to leasing than the Administration's original plan from 2010. Fortunately, the Department of Interior is holding a comment period on this plan and the industry has an opportunity to make its voice heard. The areas Interior ruled out could hold significant amounts of oil and natural gas and also provide hundreds of thousands of new jobs in our industry and generate $100 billion in additional federal revenue for the government.
Together, we must ensure the federal government hears our side of the story about how oil and natural gas development can grow the economy and strengthen our energy security.
Take action now!

WHILE THE OIL INDUSTRY IS EAGER TO GET BACK TO WORK BY EXPLORING AND PRODUCING THE OIL AND NATURAL GAS AMERICA DEMANDS, I AM DISCOURAGED BY THE RECENTLY RELEASED FIVE-YEAR OFFSHORE PLAN. THE PLAN IS AN IMPORTANT FIRST STEP, BUT IT DOES NOT GO FAR ENOUGH.
BY KEEPING THE ATLANTIC, PACIFIC AND EASTERN GULF OF MEXICO OFF LIMITS, WE RISK MISSING THE OPPORTUNITY TO DEVELOP NEW AND POTENTIALLY SIGNIFICANT RESOURCES OF OIL AND NATURAL GAS. THE DEVELOPMENT OF THESE RESOURCES COULD PROVIDE HUNDREDS OF THOUSANDS OF NEW JOBS, MORE THAN $100 BILLION IN GOVERNMENT REVENUE, AND NEARLY 4 MILLION BARRELS OF OIL AND NATURAL GAS PRODUCTION. THIS IS ECONOMIC GROWTH AND ENERGY DEVELOPMENT THAT WE CANNOT IGNORE. I ENCOURAGE YOU TO REVAMP THE FIVE-YEAR PLAN TO INCLUDE ADDITIONAL AREAS FOR LEASING.
The administration is much more interested in financing Brazil’s off shore drilling so the Chinese can get the oil.
Only if you sit by and allow them to do so.
Well Obama sent them the money and China has contracted for the oil, I don’t see much I can do about either except vote against Obama.
“(Send a Letter to Sec. of the Interior, Salazar)”
And all this recommended letter-writing to our “supposed” “representatives” will have as much effect on gubmint as all that unwanted junk mail the po dumps in our mailboxes.
Or, we can post all our grievances to one another online and annoy a few of them too!
Or we could....no we cannot do that...
I can’t think of a bigger waste of perfectly good trees than to waste paper writing to this partisan cretin.
“I cant think of a bigger waste of perfectly good trees than to waste paper writing to this partisan cretin.”
Like george scott said in his patton flik, at least there’s one man in this f’n hqtrs who knows wtf is going on.....(words to that effect)...
