Rep. Jan Schakowsky (D-IL) on Keystone Pipeline: ‘Twenty Thousand Jobs Is Really Not That Many Jobs’
Big Government ^ | 1-25-2012 | Joel B. Pollak

Posted on 01/25/2012 1:55:00 PM PST by servo1969

This morning, Rep. Jan Schakowsky appeared on the Don Wade and Roma show on WLS-AM Chicago to comment on President Barack Obama’s State of the Union address. Schakowsky praised the president’s green energy initiatives, claiming that the (recalled) Chevy Volt “is doing pretty well” and defending Obama’s failed investment in Solyndra.

When the hosts asked her to defend President Obama’s decision to block the development of the Keystone pipeline, Schakowsky did not dispute that the project would create jobs, but denied that these jobs were significant:

"Twenty thousand jobs is really not that many jobs and investing in green technologies will produce that and more. But I’ll tell you what, you know it seems to me that the Republicans would rather have an issue than a pipeline."

When the hosts pointed out that Schakowsky’s union allies support the pipeline, she was speechless.

Sen. Dan Coats (R-IN), who responded to Schakowsky’s comments:

"Tell that to the twenty thousand people that woke up this morning and didn’t have a job to go, “Well, these don’t really matter.” I mean this not only is jobs, this is less dependence on Middle East oil. And here we have you know, the President talking about becoming energy independent but he turns down the easiest way to do that."

Green technology. That’s the buzz word.

In Stalin’s 1930’s, the buzz word was collective.

Same result.

Heard some GM suit today (or yesterday) say that there are less than 8,000 Volts on the road.

20,000 jobs?
That is a gross understatement.
Lets talk about the multiplier and spinoffs. What about all the people who indirectly contribute to the pipeline? I wonder what the complete budget is and what part is provided by America and Americans.... LEts see; 7 billion projected cost for 20,000 jobs? That’s pretty substantial./s Now, if someone bought some steel and welding rod, it would all be different!

Now, lets talk about energy pricing and security.

How did this bubblehead get there?

That’s only the direct jobs. 20,000 well paid jobs spin off many more in support industries. Dems always use a static analysis when it comes to tax increases and decreases, and regulatory conduct. Increase taxes by 10% and you’re not going to increase revenue by 10%. Decrease taxes by 10% and the additional investment will make up for any temporary loss in revenue. Let the private sector create 20,000 direct jobs and it will spin off tens of thousand more.

Why pick on this woman. She is only one Democrat on the Hill.

They are all the same way. They all vote the same way, they all are little more than sycophants and Obama apologists.I do not know how Democrats get this type of loyalty out of normal thinking people, but once they hit the Hill they are brainwashed or something.

I believe Star Trek ran a few programs about a society known as Borgs, who all were programmed to serve the society.

Democrats are Borgs. Once elected they can only serve the Borg. Their every thought is of the Borg. Their every action for the Borg.

How else can anyone excuse the Obamacare, The acts of destruction on the Constitution, The GM bailouts and Solyndra, The EPA closing own the coal industry and electrical power plants .They cannot be that blind or stupid.Perhaps they are just programmed-—like the Borg.

‘Twenty Thousand Jobs Is Really Not That Many Jobs’

In the grand scheme of things, no, 20K jobs isn't that many. But what of the ohter ancillary jobs that would be created in the pizza joints, bars and other hospitality industry to "service" those workers.

What of the lower oil price in the US which in turn lowers gasoline/diesel prices, which lowers everyone's costs for food and gives those who still have jobs, more money to spend on discretionary things which creates even more jobs?

What a ditz

He also had 2 other excuses that I heard at that time:

1. “They are not ready to use”===a total lie since school was due to start the very next day & all the busses were gassed up & ready to roll on Monday morning.

2. “The busses did not have AIR CONDITIONING”===but the fact that school children use such busses each & every day-2 times a day seemed to totally escape any thought process going on in Nagin’s brain.

Nagin is close to the most stupid person I have ever heard of.

Incredible; but the bobble heads will agree; no matter what. As well; it is critical that Repubs emphasize not just jobs; but the issue of National Security! Absolutely; this impacts; in the worst way. Obama,Inc. is clearly a threat to America; and they guarantee, only the downward slide on the slippery slope. (Demint missed this aspect last night; speaking only of economic impact etc. et al.)

Oh, we are so in trouble and we need real patriots at work to address the madness; before there simply are no mechanisms left, to halt America's descent and our morphing completely into the nightmare 'image of the Marxist - Alysky-Maoist - Left'. The change Obama is still promising.

Hell she get 70-75% of the vote everytime....even with this around her neck...

Husband’s bank fraud and tax evasion convictions
On March 11, 2004, Schakowsky’s husband, lobbyist Robert Creamer, the executive director of the Illinois Public Action Fund, was indicted in federal court on 16 counts of bank fraud involving three alleged check-kiting schemes in the mid-1990s, leading several banks to experience shortfalls of at least $2.3 million.[18] In August 2005, Creamer pleaded guilty to one count of failure to collect withholding tax, and bank fraud for writing checks with insufficient funds. All of the money was repaid. Schakowsky was not accused of any wrongdoing.[19] Schakowsky served on the organization’s board during the time the crimes occurred,[20] and Schakowsky signed the IRS filings along with her husband.[21] U.S. District Judge James B. Moran noted no one suffered “out of pocket losses,” and Creamer acted not out of greed but in an effort to keep his community action group going without cutting programs, though Creamer paid his own $100,000 salary with fraudulently obtained funds.[22] On April 5, 2006, Creamer was sentenced to five months in prison and 11 months of house arrest.[23] Creamer served his five-month incarceration at the Federal Correction Institute in Terre Haute, Indiana and was released on November 3, 2006

from one of her own press releases...

School officials say the new improvements of the 52-year old compound will help reduce distractions, facilitate a better learning environment, and estimate the school will see between $75,000 to $100,000 a year in energy cost savings. Ridgewood High School is also planning to install a Science, Technology, Engineering, and Mathematics (STEM) Education Coalition lab for a STEM program to begin next fall. About 30 to 40 construction workers have been employed to complete the renovations including installing new flooring and cabinets.

30-40 - press release time

20,000 - not so big

That would be 20,000 people employed for a single project - which takes nothing but simply allowing it to happen. That is a substantial number of people. So if several factories close that employ 1000 people each that’s okay because 1000 jobs isn’t that many? Absurd.

She also apparently doesn’t understand the concept of economic multiplier. A lot more jobs indirectly would created in addition to those directly created.

I guess that’s kind of small potatoes when you’re a Chicago politician.

Jan Schakowsky is a guest on WLS Radio every Wednesday. My clock radio used to be set for the exact time her interview would start. What a way to begin the day. Now I have to get up earlier, so I miss her. She is one of many members of Congress that I have to think about, scratch my head, and wonder, how the hell did she ever get put in a position of responsibility? It doesn’t say much for the mental and moral intelligence of her constituants.

She is only the second person to represent her district in the last 60 years. Her predecessor was Sidney Yates, who served from 1949 until 1999. I expect Schakowsky will hold the seat as long as she wants it.

Maybe where she lives, 20,000 of anything isn't much, but where I live, 20,000 is a town.

Of course, let a Republican do something that can possibly be twisted around to be construed to be leading to the loss of five jobs, and it's a great big deal.
