They say there is mounting research that it is the type of oil used, and whether or not it has been used before, that really matters.
The latest study, published in the British Medical Journal, found no association between the frequency of fried food consumption in Spain - where olive and sunflower oils are mostly used - and the incidence of serious heart disease.

Until next week, or when the Corn oil Lobby sends more money to researchers.
I won’t buy any product that has cottonseed oil in it.
Funny thing is you find cottonseed oil in a lot of cookies, crackers, pies, etc., but I have never found a bottle of cottonseed oil on the store shelves.
Moderation in all things, including moderation.
Most types of vegetable oil I might agree with, but if you’re still frying with good old lard then I can’t believe it isn’t going to kill you eventually.
Just like in the movie City Slickers when Curly died - “The man ate bacon three meals a day... You just can’t DO that!”
But man does it taste good...
Spaniards have a different diet than Americans. They don’t consume fried foods like Americans do.
Anyone remember the Woody Allen movie “Sleeper?”
Guy is put in suspended animation and wake sup 100 years in the future, when it’s been discovered that the best health foods are alcohol, fatty foods, and cigarettes!
Back in a college physiology class (15 years ago or so), our professor talked at length about cholesterol and it’s interaction in the diet and body, etc. The topic of cholesterol in the diet came up and was discussed at length. Your body will make cholesterol (it’s a hormone) and dispose of cholesterol at its leisure. Your genes have far more to do with the equation than your diet ever did, or could. Overall diet and health (and moreso, genetics) are more meaningful than whether you ate something fried in lard or peanut oil (there is no significant cholesterol in anything that is not from animals anyway, btw).
And don’t even get me started on the “Low fat” garbage. What a crock!
Got 80,000 miles on my F-250 Ford pick up running on 100% veggy oil. It hasn’t gained an ounce and still has lots of heart. What would have cost $14,000 plus to operate on dino diesel only cost $3,000 thanks to soy juice.
I love frying in a Wok. It’s fun because you can be quite creative.
This has been pretty well known for a while. The problem is all the oil that tastes good is bad for you.
It would seem to me that, by now, scientists would be able to trace the progress of something like trans-fats (just as an example) through the digestive process and follow its entry into the bloodstream determining its ultimate effects on the body.
Instead, it appears, we are subject to a never-ending parade of "studies" which can only -- at best -- find a correlation between the ingestion of a food and the relative health of the population in the study. It's not so much science as statistics.
I don't know. Maybe all the really good scientists have been bought off to study global warming.
I thought that everything you eat, your body turns it into sugar ,no matter what .
My mother traded lard for Wesson oil and it killed her...at the age of 94... she was taking her first heart Rx ... that might have killed her.
WOW! Another Flaming Liberal BS Myth BUSTED!!!
Cottonseed oil isn’t classified as a food, even though it’s used in lots of processed fried foods.
Because of this they don’t have to comply with all sorts of laws and regulations when growing and using cottonseed oil.
It’s also one of the least healthy oils you can eat anyhow.
But it’s the cheapest oil so they use it all over the place. If the package says “one or more of these oils” bet that it’s 90%+ cottonseed if it is listed
My German great-grandmother ate like...a German (a REAL German, not these sissy-modern style ones), all her life, and lived to be 99. But, her Irish husband, had a heart attack in his twenties (maybe due to her butter-laden German cooking?)
Then you are making a mistake. Cottonseed oil is one of the healthiest oils there is. You should do some reading on it. The reason that you don't find it on the average grocery store shelf is because it is not cheap or in demand.
You can buy cottonseed oil on Amazon. There are many, many healthy oils that you won't generally find, unless you go to a specialty store or order it online. Avacado, walnut, grapeseed and pecan are just some of them. For the most part, people use those in salad dressing because of the wonderful flavors. It is very expensive to deep fry in them, but cottonseed oil is not as expensive.
That is not the case at all. Grapeseed oil is delicious, as are almond oil, walnut and pecan.
Chicken Fried Bacon / Sausage Gravy Dip
Another reason why America will ALWAYS be on top. The beautiful, greasy details:
Chicken fried bacon consists of bacon strips dredged in batter and deep fried, like chicken fried steak. It is an American dish that was introduced in the early 1990s. Frank Sodolak of Sodolaks Original Country Inn in Snook, Texas, is credited as having invented it. It is usually served as an appetizer with a white country or cream gravy for dipping and sauce .
In recent years, the dish has made its way across America and it is served in Chicago at the Risque Cafe in Lake View.
and Jakes Dixie Roadhouse, Waltham, Massachusetts......
lovers of fried bacon speak passionately about its qualities: The moment when the crackle of the crust gives way to the fatty, salty taste of the pork is truly transcendent.
Jane Hurley, senior nutritionist at the Center for Science in the Public Interest in Washington, D.C., stated shes never heard of anything worse.
Your entire post is full of untruths. Cottonseed oil has proven to be one of the healthiest.
Chicken fried bacon absolutely ROCKS!
German beer vs Irish whiskey!
You actually ate this greasy perfection?
Only every chance I get. The restaurant that introduced chicken fried bacon also has one of the best chicken fried steaks you’ll ever put in your mouth!
I WANT SOME!!!
Thee is such a thing as edible tobacco.
And it is one of the highest sources of the B vitamins on the planet!
They knew very well when one of the B vitamins was discovered that it was closely related to nicotine. One of the names is “nicotinic acid”. But they decided at the time that they didn’t want people to make that association and think smoking was good for you, so they gave it the generic name “niacin”.
Burning the tobacco DOES destroy it, so you can’t get your B vitamins by smoking...
And they have a different lifestyle. Businesses close their doors after lunch for a couple of hours for siesta, usually with wine.
There are lots of ups and downs to this.
First of all, the best way to gain weight is the combination of carbohydrates and fats. However, if you are overweight, eating little or no carbohydrates, and a lot of protein and fat, and you will likely lose a lot of weight.
A high carbohydrate and low fat diet can be very bad for your health, possibly creating a fatty liver, high triglycerides, etc.
Coconut oil is a rarity, in that it is a “medium chain triglyceride”, which is absorbed directly and does not have to take the extensive route that most fats and oils do to be digested. It is very useful for people who have a hard time with their digestion of fats and oils.
Mmmmmmmmmmmmm. Stop that! ;o)
This woman is nothing more than an enlightened liberal who hates anything GMO and thinks that weeds are pretty little plants that should have civil rights.
Think I'll stick with the doctors on this one. Ms. Alphonse is obviously playing loose with her creativity and imagination.
Extracted oils are 100% fat!! Why would anyone use them? And never mind heart disease, havent you noticed how fat everyone is?? Gimme a break, people. Fried food LOL!! Keep it up!
We used to buy cottonseed cake to feed our cows. None of them fell over dead.
When people do Atkins, HCG, or Paleo diets the weight comes right off. It's pretty clear that the government food pyramid and its ridiculous overweighting of grains is the main culprit.
I love chicken fried in WD-40, it tastes great and I have good memories about all the old lawnmowers I’ve fixed.
Same result with the Engine 2 diet, or any diet which is whole-food, plant-based.
WOW! Another Flaming Liberal BS Myth BUSTED!!!
My food eats plants. Does that count?
Hahahaha...That's good right there...I'm gonna lay that on the Pastor Sunday.
My Grandma is 98 years old. Loves hotdogs! Yes HOTDOGS, she would eat them exclusively given the chance.
She cooked fried foods too.
My other Grandma was 94 years old and was healthy until she broke her hip. She was another fried foods person. fried chicken, fried porkchops, hamburgers, etc.
Oh and... they were overweight as well.
I don’t know about other areas of the US, but just about every cow in the south and in Texas has been fed cottonseed. There is nothing poison about it. Last year it was very expensive and fed a bit less, but it is high nutrition for cattle.
That is so true, I have lost 80 pounds. AND I have kept it off.
ALL of it because of a low-carb diet.
You are also right, The lower carb diet is mostly Meat and vegetables. High carb raises sugar levels in your system much faster and then drops more quickly which is when your body signals it is “hungry”.
By eating the foods that take a much longer time to turn to sugar the body doesn’t give the signal nearly as often as someone eating sugary, high carb foods.
You simply do not feel hungry.
