Numerous sources say Gov. Bev Perdue will not seek re-election in 2012.
Perdue will turn 65 this month. Her likely opponent in the next campaign will be Pat McCrory, former Charlotte mayor and a Catawba College graduate.
Sources at the Associated Press are working on a story at this time.
The Raleigh News & Observer is reporting Perdue is expected to make an announcement this afternoon. The News & Observer is also reporting that Lt. Gov. Walter Dalton has about $600,000 in the bank, according to campaign finance reports.
Others likely to make a run include current Charlotte Mayor Anthony Foxx, Attorney General Roy Cooper and former White House Chief of Staff Erskine Bowles.
State Rep. Bill Faison had earlier threatened to challenge Perdue.
More information as it becomes available.
Yay! Pro abort Dem women make the WORST governors. She and Sebelius will have a LOT to answer for.
Wait isn’t she the one who wanted to suspend elections?
The only time the lady with a joker(Batman) smile ever gets really excited about anything is when she is speaking at a pro abortion rally.
Good riddance. You know what, why wait? Just quit now.
Yes she is the one who wanted to suspend elections, so that Congress could do its job without the distraction of having to run for re-election.
The MSM didn’t castigate her too much for that comment.
But she has things back asswards. Politicians run for office, and one of the checks on them is that they are accountable to the people through the election process. .
She sounds like an elitist Democrat. Good riddance. We need less of her kind in politics.
Does Jim Hunt have any kids?
Bye bye kooky Bev.
Obama engineered this, with a cushy job offer for the idiot Perdue. NC is a MUST HAVE swinger for Obozo, and their DNC is in Charlotte, and they could not afford a weak Gov. race to drag down the ticket. this is a big win for the Alinsky acolyte.
That's what they failed to mention in the article. That she's a Democrat let alone a flaming Liberal one.
I guarantee if it had been a Republican Conservative governor they would have mentioned the party.
Lamestream Media Bias in Action.
NAME THAT PARTY!
A good move by the Dems. The doofus RINO McCrory could beat a severely weakened Purdue this time, but put any Charlotte RINO ex-mayor against a random Democrat from Down East, and the anti-Charlotte bias will prevail.
Interesting take..you may be correct. However, it appears the NC is lost to the Dems whoever they run..and this way they have the spectacle of a weak gov, forced from office, hosting the convention..
I'm not sure why you say this. The dems here in NC have been growing weaker by the day since BHO took office. In 2010 the GOP won BOTH state houses for the first time in more than 100 years. The dems were creamed. The percentage of GOP voters has been increasing while the dems have been slipping. Recent polls show BHO quite weak in NC. NC is in no way lost to the dems.
I just re-read your comment. I may have misunderstood. When you say “lost to the dems”, you might mean that the dems are losing. I took it to mean the opposite — that the NC has been lost to (in favor of) the dems. If I misinterpreted, I’m sorry.
OK, now that we both agree what I meant, and both agree with the context of my comments..back to my original question..if indeed NC will go RED regardles..wouldn't it be better to have Perdue run again..this way they can blame it on a weak and lousy incumbent...
Bowles would be the strongest Dem candidate, but his work and comments on the Bowles-Simpson commission would psoe a problem, and an embarassment to Obama..
We'll actually need to work to win the Governor's seat this year. Previously, Perdue didn't stand a chance.
Yes, good riddance. You’ve been a thorn in the flesh of the now Republican majority in both houses, and they’ve taken you to the woodshed with several major vetoes. Go away already!
