Skip to comments.NBC/WSJ poll: Gingrich leads Romney, but badly trails Obama (Newt-37, Mitt-28, Santorum-18)
Posted on 01/26/2012 4:24:29 PM PST by TBBT
Newt Gingrich leads Mitt Romney among Republicans, he is the weakest of the Republican candidates tested against President Obama, according to an NBC News-Wall Street Journal poll released Thursday evening. Gingrich leads Romney 37 percent to 28 percent nationally among registered Republicans likely to vote in the primaries; Rick Santorum is in third with 18 percent, and Ron Paul is fourth with 12 percent. Gingrich has built its advantage by consolidating the heart and soul of the Republican party: very conservative voters, the South and the Tea Party. Though Gingrich is the preferred candidate of GOP primary voters, though, he performs the worst of all Republican candidates tested against Obama, including Santorum. Read the full poll results here

It is my considered opinion that Herman Cain was the only Republican that could beat 0bama0.
However, the DemonRATs effectively neutralized him.
There is nobody in the current Republican field that can beat 0bama0, ceteris parabus.
The two weakest candidates are the two front-runners. Neither Mitt nor Gingrich can beat 0bama0
Mitt says 0bama0’s doing a fine job. So why vote for him?
Gingrich has way too much baggage and is a lightning rod for the Leftist droolers. They will find dirtier dirt on him yet, and effectively neutralize him.
Can’t you read?
This is national.
I DON’T CARE !!
I DON’T WANT ROMNEY. I’LL VOTE FOR BOB DOLE BEFORE I’LL VOTE FOR ROMNEY AND ALL OF THIS NASTY CAMPAIGNING IS GOING TO BACKFIRE ON HIM.
If they really thought he would lose, they would be keeping their mouths shut and rubbing their hands with glee. Apparently, given the onslaught of work they are doing to keep him from getting the nomination, they must think he can win.
Personally, I don't see his chances that good, but the liberals must be on to something to put forth this kind of effort.
Heresy, I know, on this forum, but I believe you maybe correct.
NBC HAS to find a negative spin on good news for Newt.
I’m sure they’re thinking: “Let’s scare Conservatives into voting for Mitt”.
In fairness, it’s worked before :(
If he was guilty of what he was accused of, then he effectively neutralized himself. If he wasn't, then he neutralized himself through his poor handling of the accusations.
Too bad, because I had high hopes for him, too.
Looks like the relentless Newt attacks are helping Santorum more than Mitt.
This poll is a joke. They want Romney towin because they know Dummy can beat him. They fear Gingrich, as well they should. Deal with it libs, your teleprompter prince is going DOWN! GO NEWT!!
I agree with you 100%.
As a Black Conservative, President Cain would have undercut the foundation of LBJs welfare state and been an effective antidote to the lib media propaganda based on racism/sexism that pervades virtually every policy debate.
In that sense, Cains value was not just winning in 2012. His value was 8 years of a Conservative Black American undoing a dynamic that has perennially paralyzed our country on all levels of government.
It seems that “surrender” is your favorite word, ceteris parabus.
GO NEWT GO......
Okay so now let’s check the conservative media to see what the results would be. Oh, wait, conservative media poll???
You need to start buying bottled water because there must be something in your water that’s making you CRAZY and saying stupid things!
gosh we should sure vote for Romney because he is more electable than the guy who is ...um....beating him in the election
A lot of people are unable to get out and vote for many reasons. Did you happen to vote in last November's election for president? (IF YES, ASK:) For whom did you voteBarack Obama, John McCain, or someone else? Yes, Voted Voted for Barack Obama ................ 43 Voted for John McCain ................... 30 Voted for someone else ................. 4 Not sure .......................................... 3 No, Did Not Vote ............................. 19 Not sure ........................................
Thinking about your general approach to issues, do you consider yourself to be liberal, moderate, or conservative? (IF "LIBERAL" OR "CONSERVATIVE," ASK:) Do you consider yourself to be very (liberal/conservative) or somewhat (liberal/conservative)? Very liberal .................... 8 Somewhat liberal ................13 Moderate .........................37 Somewhat conservative .............22 Very conservative ................. 17 Not sure ........................... 3
The numbers for Obama in that poll for the media folks show a likely hysterically skewed poll.
I’d rather “lose” with Newt than “win” with Romney.
Four more years of Obama is less of a worry to me than a potential eight years of Romney coupled with a Republican Congress similar to the one in place during most of Dubya’s time.
I agree. I can't stand Mitt and the country will see him as another McCain wimp with no ability to fight obama.
Newt is too hyperactive and bounces all over the place. Most of the country hates him.
Paul is too crazy and Santorum is just not catching fire.
I hate these 'debates' that make Republicans look like fools who spend too much time ripping each other.
Obama goes out there and lies, promises goodies, doesn't mention the actual 'state of the union, has no solution for our problems, and nationally people think he did a great job with the speech.
I am usually a very optimistic guy, but right now we need a miracle.
I don’t know where anyone else has been, but everywhere I go people express their loathing for the wannabe Dictator aka Zero the National Disgrace.
Do we have any actual polls from FL?
Let the Obama propaganda and campaign begin.
Agreed. I might live in a county that’s different from most (mostly Republican but way to the left). Most people around me are either disgruntled with politics in general (those avoiding dependence on government for income) or clinging to the contemporary political debt regime (those dependent on government for income, saying that the economy’s fine, etc.).
The latter group prevails, BTW: animal worship, extreme environmentalism, hundreds of head of cattle confiscated from old folks, no new small businesses allowed, no new small houses allowed, etc.
It will be interesting to see where rick Santorum sits in the polls after the debate in Florida tonight. He’s doing grrrr rer ate!
You and I have congruent perspectives on the matter.
Nobody could have done more damage to the Democrat Plantation than a Conservative, Christian, Black AMERICAN. Even more, nobody could have done more to lift up Black Americans, and all Americans, than a Conservative, Christian Black AMERICAN.
I voted for Allen Keyes in the 2000 primary. I took a test to see which of the candidates was most aligned with my perspectives, and Allen came in way ahead of anybody else running that year. Bush and McCain scored WAY below Keyes.
Let’s PRAY that Congressman Allen WEST will run next time. He is a no-nonsense retired COLONEL who commands respect just by his comportment and can brilliantly articulate the Conservative Perspective without a teleprompter. I totally love the guy! He is THE BEST role model of any ancestry that I’ve ever seen in the Congress. Ever.
> GO NEWT GO......
Good luck with that.
I’ll vote for the guy, but I doubt he can overcome the 0bama0 machine.
My water is as pure as it gets in nature, from an artesian well. Crystal clear, clean, no chems, no bugs.
We’ll see how crazy I am on Nov 3.
Like I said, I’ll vote for the guy, but I don’t think he can overcome the 0bama0 machine.
Polls are primarily used as intimidation devices in this day and age. Haven't you figured that out yet? Me personaly, I'm not intimidated or moved by that poll. My gut feeling is that the anti-Obama vote is going to be so pervasive that we could put up a manikin with a face painted on it against Obama and still come out on top. Just not believing all the hype that Obama is going to be tough to beat. It's a bunch of bull crap.
Whoever gets the nomination is going to be the next President, as long as no A-hole (like Ron Paul) runs as a third party. Newt, Santorum or (gag) Ronmney, it doesn't matter. The manchurian jackass is going down.
> So you trust the impartiality of NBC to conduct a truly
> unbiased poll eh?
No. I trust my gut. I don’t even have a TV.
All things remaining as they are today, Newt will lose to 0bama0.
I will vote for Newt if he wins the nomination.
And I will be pleasantly surprised if he wins the general election.
But his appeal is not deep enough or strong enough to overcome his baggage, with the Left and the Right, and especially the mushy middle.
Many on the right will look at things like his lapse of judgement with Pelosi as an insurmountable flaw.
All of the Left will promote and believe the lie that he was drummed out of Congress for ethics violations.
The mushy middle will not be very motivated for either 0bama0 or Newt, so the race is likely to be close. But the DemonRATs always have ballot boxes and voting machines in reserve to help overcome close elections.
Many leftist College students will be voting at least twice. Once in their home towns by absentee ballot, and at least once in their college towns. Same for the democrat “snowbirds”.
In order to win, the Republicans need a very strong candidate. It is my opinion that they just don’t have one.
> The manchurian jackass is going down.
I sincerely hope you are correct, but I do not share your optimism.
...and they should spend five years in prison for their efforts...
> ...and they should spend five years in prison for their efforts...
I would add that, after they serve their time without parole, they should be exiled or never allowed to vote again.
But we are preaching to the choir, and nothing will be done about it. It’s done brazenly. They joke about it. Brag about it. Nobody does anything. Not even a slap on the wrist.
