PUNTA GORDA, Fla. (AP) — Rick Santorum is tired, almost broke — and going home.

The former Pennsylvania senator is taking a pause from Florida campaigning just days before the Tuesday primary that even he expects to deal him a third consecutive loss.

believe it or not polling data shows an overwhelming majority of his folks would never go Mitt and would opt for Newt

which may explain why Newt has been soft on him

Rick Santorum lost his home state in a landslide.

People forget WHY he lost. He lost because, after gaining office by giving the impression that he was a "principled conservative", Santorum endorsed RINO, pro-abortion Arlen Specter in the 2004 PA primary against conservative pro-life challenger Pat Toomey. Spector won narrowly, and Santorum's endorsement probably made the difference. Spector later stabbed the Republican Party in the back by switching to Democrat.

Don't anybody tell me that Santorum is a principled conservative. He's a fake, and puts up whatever persona he thinks may be useful.

As much as I agree with Rick’s message more so than the other 3, he just isn’t fiery enough to attract voters. I actually wanted Perry to do better than he did. He has his warts too, but, at least he was interesting and a veteran.

I’m just afraid that Rick S. is too Mr. Rogers for this country to elect. Sad, but, voters want flash!

Rick should pull out because he is helping nominate Mitt Romney. Period. Anyone who has followed politics knows that. If he continues he will not be viewed in a good light. It is best for Rick to pull out and endorse. If he endorses Romney it is over, if he endorses Newt it is still a fight. But it is time, he has no money and no chance.

>> More would go to Newt than would go to Romney, which would be a net gain for Newt.

There was a poll to that effect posted here not too long ago. If I remember correctly, Santorum’s supporters split 60:40 in favor of Gingrich over Romney.

I’ll try to find the link.

Santorum there was doing the “Party thing” — remember GWB endorsed Arlen too. (FR, IIRC, was bitterly disappointed in both.) Plus Santorum was running against Casey, whose father was extraordinarily popular, and Casey made promises he had no intention of keeping.

I think you are all missing the point. Wolf did it on purpose by having Newt and Romney go at each without talking about the issues and ignoring Rick and Paul in the beginning. See how easily sway you all are? It played right into the hands of the media.

I wouldn’t be surprised to see Rick get a small boost in the polls after last night.

Although it would be meaningless in the greater scheme, it would be enough to pump his ego and keep him hanging on through the Florida primary and perhaps another state or two.

Endorse Newt, my eye. Ridiculous. Newt stands for what exactly?

Amnesty for 11 million "grandmothers"; Citizen review boards to decide which illegals get to stay (meaning even more sanctuary cities and towns thumbing their noses at the rule of law); New "Temporary" labor permits for illegals without them getting citizenship - who will never leave (until they become "grandmothers" and qualify for Newt's "humane" amnesty) while their children automatically become U.S. citizens.

Did I miss anything? Oh yeah, Moon colonies. Perhaps we can send some of the 11 million "grandmothers" there.

Oh yeah, one more thing: Capital gains income is not legitimate income.

Plus, has anyone here heard the clamoring from the grassroots to see Santorum’s taxes?

*crickets*

I haven’t seen that polling data, so I will trust you are right. If Santorum’s votes went to Romney, that would not be a good thing.

Thank you

Found mention in a PPP poll from 1/23:

2) If Rick Santorum drops out between now and next Tuesday, Gingrich will be the beneficiary. His voters prefer Gingrich over Romney 50-23, and in a field where he’s no longer a candidate Newt’s lead expands to 43-36.

So the split isn’t 60:40 Gingrich:Romney, it’s 2:1!

http://www.publicpolicypolling.com/

Scroll about 2/3 of the way down; it’s under the “Newt up 5 in florida” heading.

"As much as I like Rick and think he would be a better man for the job, Its time for him to pull out."

This is the primary. If you honestly feel Rick is the better person for the job, you'd be smarter to work on his behalf trying to sway and convince people he is the better person.

Let each candidate's devotees campaign hard for their guy, and may the best man win.

"Don't anybody tell me that Santorum is a principled conservative. He's a fake, and puts up whatever persona he thinks may be useful."

If that's truly the case, he's only taking votes away from Romney, so no need for him to drop out.

Everyone needs to put this post in Bookmark or Favorites and reread it every time you’re tempted to go all Rick on us.

Rick endorsed Specter!!!
..and he also opposed patriot Bill Russell in his attempt to unseat Murtha in Pa.
Mr.Rogers Santorum is not!

This story is bogus. He’s going home to get his taxes to release them. He’s coming right back. Santorum is the best, most homest, candidate standing.
