Brutal Newt Gingrich Ad in the Works
abc ^ | Jan 27, 2012 10:40am | Jonathan Karl

Newt Gingrich is responding to last night’s debate with a brutal new ad accusing Romney of trying to mislead, deceive, and distort his way to the White House.

Here’s the money line: ”What kind of man would mislead, distort and deceive just to win an election? This man would: Mitt Romney.”

The ad essentially accuses Romney of lying at least twice in the debate last night: 1) about his blind trust and, 2) about his vote for Paul Tsongas in 1992.

The ad is still being produced, but here is the full ad script:

Governor Mike Huckabee:

“If a man’s dishonest to get a job, he’ll be dishonest on the job.”

Voice-over:

“What kind of man would mislead, distort and deceive just to win an election?”

“This man would: Mitt Romney.”

“Romney said he has always voted Republican when he had the opportunity.”

I want Obama attacked with ads like this one.

For sure. But I can't forget how Juan McCain went from lion in the primaries to field mouse in the general election just four years ago. Can you?

I see a silver lining in all of this political warfare among the Republican Brotherhood. If they can be effective in their ads against each other, fellow Republicans, how more effective will they be when they go against the real enemy, OBAMA and the DEMONRATS

I remember it well. It’s one of the reasons I often say that electoral politics is dead in this country. I maintain that nothing will really change in this country until after the coming war.

“There is still time before Tues to convince voters Romney lies.”

Anyone who paid attention to El Rushbo’s revelations today would know that a lot of what hit the fan yesterday was untrue. Things Newt said, which either Romney or others twisted or edited to make them sound 180 degrees opposite from what Newt actually DID say.

Newt needs to stick to Newt. I follow a several other blogs and he isn’t doing himself any good right now with the school yard arguing. His staff should find a way for him to stay above the fray, somehow.

“Also that comment he made, disparaging Newt for actually bothering to learn about local concerns like Charleston Harbor and NASA — that was idiotic. Those things aren’t local. Improved harbors and the space program are valuable to everyone and Newt is to be commended for being informed on them.”

I know Newt has always talked about NASA and ports that would make a difference in the long term (as opposed to short term shovel ready jobs such as fixing potholes or a Winter Olympics that will be gone after a few weeks). It’s not something he just picked up on for the primary.

Agree. Newt needs to stick to the issues. BTW, all politicians lie.

IMO after the American people SAW the face of his second wife most put his marital problems on the shelf.

OTOH to be caught in numerous lies and brag about the money you have are two attributes that do not sit well.

Romney is as big a liar as Obama is.

Truthfully, I don’t know how any Republican could vote for Romney after listening to him give the exact same defense for ORomneycare last night that Obama gives for Obamneycare. He also told Santorum that Obamneycare is “nothing to get angry about.”. Well, Mitt, your base disagrees with you. It is A LOT to get angry about! Everytime I think about the way Obama and the Democrats shoved this unpopular bill down our throats, I get angry!

Except for the fact that Gingrich has already discussed this. He says (and his life seems to reflect this) he’s changed and he’s a devout Catholic now. If the Lord can forgive and give second chances shouldn’t we as well?

Good for Newt!

It's time for Newt to go to the mattresses.

Whatever happened to the L-word? Is Newt afraid to simply call Romney out on his intentional lies? This is no to be time timid. Timid is a loser.

I am getting tired of El Rushbo bashing every body and then walking it back the next day. It is easy to be right 98% of the time when you play both sides 100% of the time. I truned Rush off yesterday and it will be a while before I turn him back on.

But Newt’s running an ad about honesty just raises a giant hypocrisy flag.

And none of us can sit here and say with certainty how the voters will react to this ad and the message intended, or not intended. It’s a dice throw.

Not to the degree that Obama and Romney do. Lies are only lies when they perpetrator knowingly misleads. Obama and Mittens knowingly lie. Gingrich was been taken out of context time and time again.

The political reality, or in ‘realpolitik,’ is that negative campaigning works. Gingrich tried to take the high road in Iowa where he faced an avalanche of negative ads without any response by him.

You don’t respond you lose -that’s the reality.
