MIAMI - Florida’s voters effectively ended Mitt Romney’s presidential dream four years ago. He won in only about one-third of the 67 counties, gained the support of only 9 percent of Cuban Americans, rejected advice from local advisers, and misplayed the ideological landscape.
Now the political battlefield, the issues, and the competition are different - but the stakes in Tuesday’s vote are even higher as the one-time front-runner battles to regain his primacy against the candidate who has emerged as his chief challenger, Newt Gingrich. After Romney was sent reeling by Gingrich’s victory a week ago in South Carolina, he has used a barrage of attacks in debates and television commercials to pull ahead in several recent Florida polls.
In order to win, analysts said, Romney must find a way to pick up support in what are considered several states within the state. There are swaths of traditionally conservative areas that may be most hospitable to Gingrich; condos filled with snowbirds from the north and Midwest that could be tilted to Romney; economically distressed suburbs and cities along the state’s midsection that are up for grabs; and a Hispanic community that is diverse and divided.

TV in N. Florida has been wall to wall smear ads by Romney against Newt. I can’t wait for it to be over. Just an observation, Romney seems to lack a plan to campaign with, all his ads do is smear the opposition.

What angers me to no end is the constant mainstream media mantra here in Florida, and this even includes Fox News, that ALL Hispanic voters and the Hispanic voting population are automatically sympathetic to amnesty for illegal aliens. This couldn’t be further from the truth as many polls have shown in the past, yet the chattering class CONTINUES to ram this down the public’s throat, implying continually that if any candidate refuses to embrace amnesty for illegals, he will lose the Hispanic vote and the election. Newt is correct in attacking the media, the American press is now no better than the propaganda machine the Nazis had.

If folks can recall, back in '08, Romney was THE conservative candidate against McNuts but Crist endorsed Romney the day before the primaries. And Crist, being very popular at the time, handed the nomination to McNuts with the endorsement.
My how times have changed! Mittens is now the liberal in the field! And, Crist is gone a lawyerin' for a firm (Morgan & Morgan) that backs Bowbama! Oh, the crazy, crazy world of politics!
Lying actually is a part of it. Mormon missionaries are told to respond to questions about Mormonism by saying or, worse, not answering the question but implying that it is just another form of Protestant Christianity. It’s not, and even Mormons know that if they tell people the truth about the beliefs of their cult, their potential converts will either burst out laughing or run screaming.
I hope Romney reached the point of overkill with his ads and that they have the opposite effect and all his money BACKFIRES big time. Praying for Newt.
Before SC, it was the be all end all, IF Romney won it, it was OVER, now that Newt won, it isn’t over. I’ve even heard them say IF Newt wins FL, it still isn’t over. But IF Romney wins, it is over as the next few states will be Romney’s. They spin spin spin til they make me dizzy.

Romney has been on both sides of so many issues, and though I allow that people can change their minds, Romney hasn’t really invested in telling Floridians who he is, what he now believes, and his plan for the future.
In 2008 many bought the unknown, I hope buyer’s remorse will help people decide about the unknown in 2012.
If the establishment succeeds in choosing our nominee again, true conservatives must, IMHO find a new home.

Romney is all about his persona, not the issues. He looks good, speaks well, disciplined and knows his way with business data in debates. Perfect family life. All style and no substance.

Regardless of the “polls” IMO, this election will come down to the absentee votes...there were many of them in Florida. No idea of the breakdown between the Northern menace and those out of the country say on military duty but that is where the election will be won or lost.
Ann, I agree with you, I have yet to find anyone who said they have or are voting for Romney. On the other hand, looking at Newt’s body language the other night at the debate, it was one of someone who had received less than great news before the debate.
Romney has effectively cleared the field with his minions removing anyone who had a shot at him and perhaps Newt was the last to fall. The upcoming elections in February should be a Romney sweep as those are very pro RINO states or heavily Mormon like Nevada so it is imperative he be stopped here in Florida. I pray that happens.

If people really wanted to know the truth, they would google "ex-mormon"...there are thousands of support groups for people leaving mormonism whose lives have been forever altered by this cult, and hundred of thousands of eyewitness testimonies and cult leadership documents. It's all at the push of a button, but 90% of people stop thinking when the mormon advertising ends.
Oh, and BTW...if you check out one of those sites and read about people whose lives were shattered by this cult?...mormons will tell you that a./ They're part of a global anti-mormon conspiracy, or b./ that the victims are in reality "couldn't hack the lifestyle (brainwashing)" and are jealous of true mormons' happiness and success, or c./ they profess ignorance of any such goings on anywhere in the momon church, say that things are totally different in their ward, and invite you to come...and join them for a glass of milk.
I don’t think it’s common knowledge, but it sure will be if Romney gets the nomination. I don’t think people realize what a liability his religion really is. The media will be sure to investigate every nefarious and bizarre aspect of Mormonism.

As for me, if individuals wish to align themselves with a gnostic cult like Mormonism, they can go ahead, but please don’t try to tell me Mormonism is Christian. It might work with the 90% of people you mention who don’t think beyond the slick advertising, but anyone with half a brain can discern the holes in Mormon theology.
For the most part, Mormons are decent people, honest in their daily business. So are Scientologists.
So, the "secret" is one that doesn't even pop up in casual discourse. Most people focus on the polygamy part, and are never exposed to the details of Smith's history, etc.
As time marches on, Mormonism has lost most of the stigma it had when it started. Keep your nose clean long enough, and events of history are lost to memory.
I don't fault Romney for being a Mormon - it's easy enough to fault him for his mendacity, on its face. But Mormonism is "out there" as far as religions go. Way "out there."

Received a Politico email advising the Palm Beach GOP Chair claims Herman Cain was scheduled to endorse Gingrich last night in Florida. Does anyone know if this happened? I haven’t seen any notice of it anywhere.
I believe it's more a "secret" of ignorance. Most folks think of polygamy when they think of Mormons, but don't bother with the roots of the movement that uses "we believe in Christ too" to disarm folks and acquire some legitimacy.

I am starting to think the real reason they hung Ceaucescu is not because he was a tyrant but because he paid “his” national debt, a big no no.
