A pensioner could be sent to prison after admitting illegally possessing guns and ammunition.
Percy Hermitage, of Mead Court, Cannons Mead, Stansted, pleaded guilty to possessing an automatic-loading pistol with a barrel of less than 30 centimetres; a Saxby and Palmer .177 self-contained gas cartridge air pistol and a .22 double action revolver, without authority.
The 85-year-old further admitted possessing a Victor .22 calibre rifle, two .22 calibre rounds of ammunition, as well as a hollow-point bullet without permission.
Hermitage claimed to have had the weapons since the 1960s and although the offences attract a minimum five-year prison term, the court is set to hear submissions from his lawyers that there are exceptional circumstances which would encourage the judge to pass a lesser sentence.

Oh, yeah?! Well, why else would he have THREE entire rounds of ammo?! That’s triple what the Deputy Sheriff of Mayberry, NC gets!
The horror!! He had TWO rounds of .22 cal.
They need to get this dangerous bastard off the streets. /s
Hey, he could put out an eye with that thing.
I’m afraid the Brits have fallen to the progressives and socialists. This confirms it.
The man is 85 years old, fer cryin’ out loud... And, with all that armament he was in no danger of fomenting a revolution.
The Brits have gone positively lunatic.
Right, clearly a desperate character who must be locked up for the good of society. Also a whole hell of a lot easier to arrest than the Islamist terrorists, home invasion thugs, drunken rioting mobs, muggers, rapists and child molestors who infest the rest of their benighted island.
...don’t forget that hollow point bullet he had without permission.
Book him Dan-O!
Somebody should invade England now and maybe teach them how to speak English :-)
And sooner, rather than later.
At 85 this poor old gent is no doubt a WW2 veteran. So this is what he gets. Saves the Empire just to have himself facing jail. England sucks.
“The 85-year-old further admitted possessing a Victor .22 calibre rifle, two .22 calibre rounds of ammunition, as well as a hollow-point bullet without permission”
This would be like being charged with drug possesion for
having a half bottle of baby asprin.
Good thing he wasn’t living in our nations capitol.
OFF WITH HIS HEAD!!
This is what happens when idiots are allowed to vote and hold office! They would love Bloomberg over there.
Bobby killer ammo no doubt.
I’ve got far more than that rolling around under the seat of my car.
Of course not. But, he must be made an example of, in order to condition and train the populace that they will be smacked down hard for any Offense Against The State. “Liberals” LOVE this kind of thing. They don’t hate guns, they hate YOU.
Judge David Turner, if he does anything other than toss this case, needs to be dragged into the street, stripped to his shorts, tarred and feathered, and ridden out of town on a rail.
Oh Wait! This is the ONCE PROUD BRITISH EMPIRE, WHERE ONCE BRITANNIA RULED THE WORLD AND NOW IDIOTS PREVAIL! So I expect Judge David Turner to teach this old knuckle dragger a right fitting lesson!
Mr. Percy Hermitage, veteran WWII, (all Brits alive at the time were veterans, even the civilians who stood firm against the daily bombings) when BRITS HAD BALLS, I am sorry for your plight.
But don’t you know, those damn air rifles of yours could start a crime wave!
OH WAIT! The muzzies already have your crime wave RIGHT EFFIN HERE! (grabbin crotch NJ style) With REAL effin guns! But we won’t be bigoted, prejudiced, extremists and point that inconvenient little fact out! /s>
Mr. Percy Hermitage, God bless you. You are so polite, so proper, you ratted your own self out.
A true, proper English gentleman.
(I hated writing this post.)
What you said!
2 rounds of .22, obviously a killer or terrorist.
One is not allowed to defend oneself with anything more than words spoken softly. And those words must not denigrate the target because of any characteristic of the target, such as race, religion, intelligence or motive. And say please.
England is now an embarasement. I’m so glad I can claim half my ancestry, the good half, from Poland.
He would have been 18 in 1945. Possibly a veteran of WWII, possibly too young. Either way the arrest and charges are ridiculous.
He would have been 18 in 1944, 19 in ‘45. Not too young by any stretch.
Obviously, socialism is a mental/physical disorder similar to mental/physical disorder of Progressives/Democrats caused by fecal backup impairing brain functions, commonly know as “sh!t for brains”.
And he faces 5 years?
What a flippin joke.
And I just got my Midway Arms sale flyer! Bullets by the thousands. Special price.
You ought to see the area they bulk pack in. Bullets arrive in heavy cardboard kegs on pallets and they have machines that pack them in whatever quantities the SKU calls for, 500, 1000 in a nice plastic storage box. They have a pickup door so locals don’t have to pay shipping. WhooHoo!
Poor Brits. Much further down the Road to Serfdom than are we.
“by any stretch”? The war was winding down. He might have been only 18 in 1945. It doesn’t take a huge stretch of the imagination to think he might have been too young. That’s all I said, “ might have been too young”. Sheesh!
The judge will not jail him, there would a public outcry, the fact that he is out on bail and the judge called for reports means he will get a fine or suspended sentence.
The law is the law, that is the problem. He owned weapons illegal by English law, that cant be avoided. Like you, I have no problem with him owning them, but the law is what it is today. His age, at least as the offence and charging of the offence, is irrelevant.
As an old man, he will get a fine, a slap on the wrist and the weapons taken off him.
Well, it won’t be Americans.
Not its not.
You get idiotic stories anywhere.
I hope you’re right.
Hopefully, whatever assailants he encounters in the future will only rough him up a bit, and only steal meaningless "stuff" that's not worth making a fuss over, like his dignity and peace of mind.
I don't recognize "laws" that violate one's natural rights.
Sorry ‘’muir’’, didn’t mean to sound peevish. As a point of fact though the war was not quite ‘’winding down’’ in 1945. Not really until the end of April anyway. The first three and a half months of ‘45 saw the Royal Army having quite a fight against the remnants of the German Army as it retreated back through Holland and into northern Germany. The young man at 18 or 19 would have seen plenty of combat.
Well, to stay on point, if the fellow had served, the story probably would have identified him as an 85 year-old veteran rather than an 85 year-old pensioner. All of our surmising is just that.
