SEATTLE - A very unique wedding in Seattle on Sunday afternoon as people came to witness the union of a woman - and a building. In order to save a building from demolition, a Babylonia Aivaz married it.
Aivaz said "I do" to the warehouse on 10th and Union on Capitol Hill. She said she fell in love with the 107-year-old building during an Occupy Seattle protest and doesn't want to see it torn down to make room for a brand-new apartment building.
"I hope that America wakes up and realizes that gentrification is a serous issue that affects poor people, especially people of color, and we really need to stand up and do something about what's happening in our neighborhoods all over the country," she said.
"When I look at this building I see a community center, I see a community art space, i see a homeless shelter, I see free childcare, I don't see a building, I see a space that can address all the needs of our neighborhood.
The union will probably be pretty short-lived - demolition is already underway.
OOPSx3
This is what happens when lunatic Lefties in —say Mass. or California redefine marriage to allow same sex fraud. IF same sex marriage/civil unions are allowed —why cant some demented OWS marry a building? Just wait till her building finds she is inviting others into their “marriage”.
Since they have changed the definition of marriage, it is inevitable that the slippery slope would lead here. But I didn’t think it would happen before three or more people were married and a guy got to marry his goat. Formed concrete, steel, and glass was much further down the list.
anything goes marriage...
perhaps this is why romney is so pro-homo marrariage...
if anything goes then anything goes.
She claims it is a gay marriage because the bldg is a woman. At 107 years of age, she should be getting it a physical and very large life insurance policy.
well, at least she can’t be forced to testify against the offending building. ;)
Wouldn’t it be fitting if the city held her liable for half the taxes owed on the abandoned building and then charged her for the measures necessary to guarantee public safety?
gives a new meaning to the term “community property”...
