A new InsiderAdvantage poll conducted Sunday night of likely Republican voters in the state of Florida shows a significant surge for Newt Gingrich.

The poll has Mitt Romney leading with 36 percent of voters, followed by Gingrich at 31 percent.

The Sunday results of 646 likely GOP voters are as follows: Romney 36 percent Gingrich 31 percent Santorum 12 percent Paul 12 percent Other/Undecided 9 percent "The race will be tighter than expected," Matt Towery, chief pollster of InsiderAdvantage told Newsmax.

Towery noted that his poll showed a surge for Romney on Wednesday, with him leading Gingrich by 8 points. The InsiderAdvantage poll was among the first to show Romney's resurgence after his dismal showing in the S. Carolina primary.

The InsiderAdvantage poll was also the first to show Gingrich's rise in S. Carolina and accurately forecast his win there.

"The trend is favoring Gingrich," Towery said, noting that while Romney's lead was still outside the margin of error of 3.8 percent, "It's not by much.".........

I hope Santorum urges his supporters to vote Newt on Tues!

Do you have any reason to think he might?

I know that Rick Santorum has some personal issues with Newt Gingrinch but I would like to think that the way Romney has revealed his true character over the last few days would horrify Rick enough that he will tell his supporters to vote for Newt, simply to keep Mittens from getting the state.

I wonder if Newt’s people are talking to Santorum’s people trying to get Rick to take one for the team in FL. Does anyone know if that could possibly be happening?

I’m hoping this is the beginning of a backlash against Romney? It would certainly serve him right!

“I honestly think Romney’s negative carpet bombing has to turn voters off at some point. Hope he has overdone it!!”

That’s what I’m praying for, too.

This will be a big test to see how pro life Rick is....a vote for Romney from his camp would prove otherwise.

Well, this is the only poll showing it getting closer. A half dozen others are showing a stable and sizable Romney lead. And 2-3 are showing Romney with double digit leads. (RCP has Romney +15 today, which is the highest in the last 2 weeks) I’d like to see a couple of more that show this before I’d get excited.

Romney suddenly attacked Newt on dozens of fronts, and a lot of people who seemed neutral suddenly started shilling for Romney.

Drudge was certainly the most notable. I didn’t think his coverage was that distorted until the critical moment, when it certainly was. He headlined lie after lie after lie, and buried all the responses. Especially damaging have been all the assertions from dozens of ancient politicians that Gingrich was an enemy of Ronald Reagan—all based on lies.

Drudge is still shilling for Romney, but I think people are catching on to it now. The big momentum may have come a couple of days too early for the Romney mob to prevail.

I sure hope so. And yes, I’m not a moderator, but I sure think this belongs in breaking news.

I pledge to you, in the tradition of our founding document, if you help me next Tuesday, and if with your help I become the nominee, and as nominee we decisively defeat the Left at every level, at President, at House, at Senate, and local governments. That I will give you for as long as I am allowed to serve, my life, my fortune, and my sacred honor. Together, we are going to give our grandchildren the country they deserve, not the country that's currently decaying. - Newt Gingrich

No, but a girl can hope can’t she.

I would think he would want to see a conservative come out on top not liberal Romney!

Newt could gain both 50 delegates and a new RINO opponent.

If MittWitt can’t hold Florida after the nuclear assault on Newt then the GOP-e will decide he can’t beat Newt for the nomination and will bring in a new face.

Jeb, Christy...whoever?
They would hope the new guy could win or at least get enough delegates to deny Newt the nomination.

A way would be found to hand the new guy Mitt’s delegate wins and open several states up so the new guy can get on the ballot even though the deadlines have passed.

They will do whatever it takes to stop Newt, Newt is a smart guy... maybe he can stay ahead of them.

With the GOP-e politics is a very dirty game with rules that can change if it is expedient.

If Rick Santorum wants to remain a viable political player in the future, he MUST step back now and take care of his family needs.

If Santorum continues to remain in the Florida race, he will be forever seen as replaying his role in enabling Arlen Specter to defeat Pat Toomey in Pennsylvania.

I'm afraid that Santorum is in a "death spiral" right now, and is doomed to repeat the actions that scorned him a decade ago.

If Newt can finish anywere close after they threw the kitchen sink at him, Newt will be bullet-proof. Pray Newt wins or Romney by less than 5. I hope that vile backstabbing Mr. Burns cant sleep for the next three days.
