I work very hard. My parents worked hard. Everything I have is because we all worked for it, right?
I was raised to believe that. And I do believe it. But about six years ago I saw a video that opened my eyes to the possibility there may be other ingredients to success.
It was after worship services at First United Methodist Church one Sunday. A bunch of us — all white, educated, and, I daresay, comfortable — watched a video. In it, people of all races stood in a line in the middle of a room. The leader of the group asked several questions, telling people to respond by moving forward or stepping back. She said step back if you had ever been followed around a store. Step forward if you expect to inherit at least a little money when your parents die. Step back if you’ve ever been denied housing because of your race. Step back if you worried that your hairstyle was too “ethnic” for an employer or if you’ve ever been stopped for driving your car in the wrong neighborhood.
Wow!
As I watched the video, I realized that even though I have worked hard most of my life, I’ve never had to put up with problems like that. I’ve felt accepted no matter where I went, and if I didn’t, it wasn’t because of my race.
I realized that even though my father had literally put blood, sweat and tears into farming land in southwestern Minnesota, that had he been Native American or African American his parents probably wouldn’t have even owned land in the first place. And my life would have been much different.

It is not hard at all . . . I see it all the time. Gangs of minority youts “wilding” or “flash mobbing” whites. Minority youts committing hate crimes on white kids and adults.

Step back if you ever watched a black colleague receive a promotion or other benefit at work based exclusively on “diversity” programs. Step back even further if other people were more qualified for that promotion or benefit.
Step back if your employer has ever had a special month that is designated exclusively to recognize black people but has no such month for white people.
Step back if your employer goes soft on workplace problems caused by black people because they don’t want to seem racist.
Step back if you had ever been sneered at in public by black people whom you have never seen before and seem to hate you because you are whote.
Step forward if you expect to receive slavery reparation payments someday.
Step forward if you expect to receive special government incentives for your business because you are black.
Step back if you’ve ever been denied a scholarship because you aren’t black.
Step back if you’ve ever been taunted by black punks in parking lot for driving your car in the wrong neighborhood.
Step forward if you have ever used the race card at school or at work because you know white people fall all over themselves at the mere allegation of racism.

It’s obviously politically correct on FR to ridicule this article but I happen to believe that its essential point is true. I *think* even if you were to ask conservative blacks like Thomas Sowell, Walter Williams, Alan Keyes, they would likely say that they have experienced racism. I also think that if you ask all sorts of blacks in America they would report the same thing. This is not the same thing as saying that there isn’t imagined or made up racism. There is. There is also real racism. To deny it is to deny reality.
I don’t go from there to then say we should have affirmative action. We shouldn’t. That’s just compounding the problem.
But come on people - racism isn’t something like the Easter Bunny or Santa Claus - it’s alive and well. It’s not as pervasive as it once was, it’s not as accepted as it once was, it’s not an excuse for every failing.
But, to cite but one example, there *is* such a thing as Driving While Black. To pretend otherwise is foolishness.

And of course, just as there is white on black racism, there is surely black on white racism. They both exist - just like shoplifting exists, adultery exists, corruption exists and all the rest.

The "when you're white" signs are nothing more than racist themselves, and their message is appalling. But Duluth is populated with guilt-ridden left-wingers, socialists, and artsy types so this bilge plays well there.
when I was young, i got a job, and when i showed up for my first shift, the foreman looked at my name and said, “ I will not have another pollock on my shift”... I was fired after 3 hours.... I scored so high on an employment test, that the form said I was guaranteed a job.. when I went to talk to the HR person, this blonde bitch would not even look me in the eyes... she said, “ I’m sorry, but you are the wrong sex and the wrong color. If you were a black female, you would not even have had to take the test. I’m sorry, we have nothing for you.”.... then comes the time I was sued by a black male that threw a chair at me so hard it stuck in my wall... you see, to fire someone for assaulting you is racist (the case went on for 2 years before it was dropped, I refused to settle).... you all can take your charges of racism and go straight to hell, do not pass go, do not collect welfare...
