Santorum: ‘We’re Going To Win This Race’

LUVERNE, Minn. (AP) — As political watchers fixated on Florida, Republican presidential candidate Rick Santorum delivered a message to Minnesotans: The race is still on, no matter the outcome of Tuesday’s primary.

Santorum, speaking Monday to a crowd of about 300 people at the Palace Theatre in the southwest town of Luverne, seemed determined to regain the Midwest momentum he’d enjoyed in Iowa — even on the eve of Florida’s primary, in which the senator hasn’t polled well.

“I believe we’re going to be in it until the end, and I believe we’re going to win this race,” Santorum told an enthusiastic crowd.

You’re a fool if you believe that because it’s simply not true.

Using a candidate’s disabled daughter to get him to drop out so your candidate can get his votes? Low.

The democrats have been using it for a long time. They did it when the son of Calvin Coolidge died during a campaign. They did it when my congressman's granddaughter died during his campaign for a state office years ago. The democrats are still attacking Trig Palin.

Lots of filthy progressive tactics being used by "conservatives" these days. They've sold their souls and WILL suffer because of it.

They've gone right down the line and accused every last candidate who stands between Gingrich, Romney, and the white house of secretly working for Romney and then quietly forgot about it as those candidates or their campaigns came out in support of Gingrich. Ed Rollins has been accused of secretly working for Romney for years now but since he started being friendly to Gingrich, he's suddenly a Reagan conservative.

Meanwhile Newtie is collecting endorsements from all the pro amnesty racist hispanic groups, proposing incentives for flex fuel vehicles and green energy while proposing new federal agencies and he's the "small government conservative".

You should see some of the vile filth they're tweeting at Michelle Malkin over her support of Santorum. A tweet from a Gingrich supporter yesterday called her an "Establishment geisha C**T". I was called a lying Romney troll for quoting what my accuser said in one of the threads from the day Gingrich announced for president.

Conservatives are self destructing in a fit of mindless rage that shows a complete and utter lack of moral courage. They've already destroyed any chance they have of taking the white house and I think we can count on them not having what it takes to blame themselves.

I don’t think Santorum’s in it for Romney. He hit him pretty hard on romneycare and is giving a speech on it again today.

The last thing Rush Limbaugh would ever do is be serious, or a threat to the existing order. He’s an entertainer, but a sneaky one. Conservatives need to monitor Limbaugh, not believe in him.

Tell it to Rush, or are you say that he didn’t say it?

Santorum was a Romney supporter in 2008. He supported Arlen Specter in 1996, for President.

Hi, CC.

Yes. It’s odd.

I don’t think Santorum has a chance. Is he a good man? Yes. Is he a big government guy? They all are. Do I think he can rise above Romney’s dirty attacks or the Romneybama Deathcare or Gingrich illegals issues? No.

Most importantly, do I think he can counter what the communists at the DNC, WH, or 0bama machine will bring to the table? No. I don’t know anyone who thinks he can waltz into a bar unarmed with the bad guys ready to kill him for a look, unless he can stop bullets with a Bible (Hagee style).

Frankly, I am not at all certain the US will last past the President. What the next President walks into is a nightmare. 0bama and company are going to try to scorch this country, Hubert-Humphrey/Tecumsah Sherman style, until they leave office.

At this point, Santorum’s best hope is to be someone’s VP. That may change, as he is a good man. But he’s not going to get out of a fight by thinking he can not return fire.

It may be obvious to you, but not to me.

Romney supporters don’t just shut up. They just approach it from another angle :)”

I won't join Yaelle in calling you “insane” (post 68) because I don't dispute the reality of deception in politics, but I'm going to say I was anti-Romney **LONG** before I was a supporter of Santorum, and I thank Free Republic for waking me up to the horrible nature of Romney's debate performance in the governor's race in which he insisted he was pro-choice, his mother was pro-choice, and he's always been pro-choice.

I'm a reluctant supporter of Santorum. I am a strong opponent of Romney.

I can live with voting for Gingrich. I really, really hope the Republican Party doesn't put me in a position of having to decide whether to vote for Romney or Obama.

I'd like to see Rush Limbaugh's research, especially since his brother is endorsing Santorum. I realize he has access to data that may not be public knowledge.

However, the polls that are so far public don’t seem to bear this out. CharlesWayneCT has some interesting data showing that Santorum voters are split on their second choice about evenly between Romney and Gingrich.

I’m not sure that the claim that most Santorum voters support ROmney was actually a claim made by Rush or not.

I’m also not sure whether that is supposed to help in the fight to remove Santorum or not, since if he’s taking most of the votes from Romney, you’d think that we’d want him to stay in the race.

I think the argument is that since Santorum voters would pick Romney over Gingrich, Santorum must be a liberal stalking horse for Romney. But again, if it was true, and Santorum was doing the work of Romney, he’d drop out and give all those votes to Romney. If Santorum had not been in FLorida, Romney would have won a clear majority, rather than still being a minority winner. I’ll let a GIngrich supporter explain how that outcome would be better for Gingrich, or worse for Romney.

Likewise, are there people here who support Romney, but telling people to vote for Santorum? I guess it is possible, but Romney doesn’t need Santorum to have supporters at Free Republic, so the logic of that argument eludes me. If the argument is that people who supported Romney in 2008 are supporting Santorum in 2012, that could also be true, but given that Cain endorsed Romney in 2008 and supports Gingrich now, I don’t think it is helpful to argue that a candidate should be measured by who their supporters were supporting 4 years ago.

I think Gingrich would be HAPPY to get every freeper who supported Romney to now support him. And since Gingrich supporters are asking Santorum supporters to switch, they apparently think it would be great if these “pro-Romney” people they are talking about started supporting Newt Gingrich instead.

The one thing I think I can say is that by self-selection, FR isn’t a good representation of the republican electorate or the conservative component of the electorate. I don’t think it wants to be, or that this is a problem, so long as Freepers don’t forget that and start scratching their heads wondering why the rest of the electorate is doing what they are doing.

RomneyCare was enacted in 2006 and Romney was endorsed by Santorum in 2008

You’re right that it’s a tactic the Democrats have used. I remember how they attacked the Sarah and Trig. It’s sad to see conservatives using the same tactics.

It’s very frustrating that Santorum is accused of working for Romney. If he was working for Romney, why would he hit him so hard on healthcare? You don’t attack someone like that that you are working for or want the VP seat with.

Some say that Santorum voters are voting for him to split the vote so Romney gets the nomination. That’s ludicrous if we wanted Romney, we’d just vote for Romney. They say that Romney is our second choice, and that’s ridiculous. Santorum voters have selected Santorum because we believe he’s the best conservative in the race. If he were to drop out, why would we support the more liberal candidate? Logically, we would support Gingrich because he’s closer to Santorum idealogically than Romney. If there are those who are supporting Romney as a second choice, maybe it could have something to do with the vitriol Gingrich supporters have shown to them.

About Michelle Malkin, that’s outrageous. One thing about conservatives is that I always thought we were above the other side. You go to liberal message boards, and you see foul language. Conservatives need to be above that stuff.

The party is really splintering right now. I hope that whoever the nominee is, we’re able to unite behind him, but I’m getting nervous. We can’t afford four more years of Obama. Imagine more of his picks for the Supreme Court. There will never be a shot of overturning Roe vs. Wade.

They’ve gone right down the line and accused everybody of working for Romney but we haven’t heard a peep when almost all of those secret “romney employees” turned around and endorsed Gingrich. (Short of Bachmann who hasn’t endorsed anyone)

If any of them had half a brain they would question why so many of the tea party founders are now on their continuously expanding enemies list. I hate to say it but the tea party has largely become a tool of the establishment.

There is a pack of them that are going through threads making crap up as they go along. These same people in the past have put words in Palin’s mouth citing some lame sun tsu book and bashed Bachmann saying she was in the tank for Romney.

They are currently bashing Santorum saying he is in the tank with Romney and citing hate and vile lies in they're opinion about the poor man's baby. All of this to glorify Palin and Gingrich.Months ago they were posting threads saying Perry was jealous of Palin because she pushed herself away from a podium at a governors conference;complete with every thought in Palin’s head they dreampt up as to when she would announce.

It is hate filled, childish garbage. They have some sleeper trolls amongst them but they are so full of hate and self righteousness and tattle taling and brown nosing; they don't even realize it. What will they do when the trolls amongst them post long opuses after Obama is elected? Divide and conquer is what the Axelrod machine does best.

I know it. I can't believe what FR is like right now. You can't even have a civil back and forth. There is a whole “mob” that does nothing but call in the stupid “ZOT” squad instead of backing there opinions with reasonable arguments. It's like the freakin’ secret police around here.
