Romney makes more sense for Trump than Newt.

It'd probably be better for Newt that he not be endorsed by Trump.

I don't expect it to matter. Romney will easily win the Nevada caucuses as he did in 2008.

MITT ROMNEY: New schedule shows unnamed event @ unnamed located @ same time Trump slated to be at Trump property for big announcement.

This is turning into a real nail-biter! I have maters ready to throw if Trump doesn’t see it my way. One must admit the man is a master at self-promotion.

We’ll know soon enough, but I don’t see him backing Romney unless he got on a “stop all the fighting and beat Obama now, Romney, Romney, bandwagon.”

Yes, I think FR and a few other sites are all that is left of the far right. Perhaps the most influence is in the Congress. Seems like the presidency is out of reach. The sad thing is, I really believe the vetting process is more like a human wood chipper than anything any reasonable person would ever want to put themselves through. We tend to eat our own as it is.

I still hang on to anybody but BO and will vote that way come November and hope that not only can we capture the presidency but Congress as well. I’m in NC, so any hope that my vote will matter in our May primary is totally lost, especially when mostly everyone seems to be of the opinion that 3 primaries and one caucus is enough to determine who get the nod.

you gotta hand it to Trump, he knows how to generate media attention.

Cain’s endorsment pretty much went unnoticed because it wasn’t announced or hyped and was done at a small event, and was thus wasted.

Its the Overton Window effect (Joseph P Overton's political theory, not Beck's book of the same name) and the establishment which includes Gingrich is using it very effectively to move the base to the left. All they have to do is stay marginally to the right of Obama and they can move the entire base to the left.

About halfway down the page is an interactive demonstration of how the window works

scroll about halfway down the page for a demonstration

Now I see that the attacks on Santorum are starting to attack capitalism and his "support" of the drug industry.

Already hitting twitter is that the GOP really is the party of the rich, white guy.

Regardless, no Mitt, not now, not ever.

I just don't see Trump endorsing Romney.

When I first heard the rumor of Trump endorsing Newt, I said to myself, no way.

It will definitely be Romney. Two big players in business. Trump probably wants to jump on the Mitt bandwagon.

No matter who he endorses, it will be forgotten in a week.

Ever get the feeling that those of us on FR and a few other conservative websites are all that is left of the conservative movement in America?? Are we THAT much of a minority in America?

And pure social/religious conservatives like me are only a small minority on FR itself. The Lord didn't ever say we'd be popular.

There is no way this is a mistake.

Trump is saavy enough to keep his name in the public to promote his brands.

Playing games.

1st he is for Newt and then to keep his name out there now he is for Mutt?

Right and now you have one less viewer.

If I’m ever seated next to you at an event I’ll give my tickets to some hapless fool and trade places away from you.

Plick.

(unless there is a valid explanation for this)

Trump? he will stand at a podium with photos of Santorum and Paul on one side, and Willard and Newt on the other. Turing to Santorum and Paul, he will say something about them and announce, “Rick Santorum, you’re fired.” Turning to the audience, he will say, “Tune in next week. to see who will continue.”

It’s probably a hair thing.

I defend all the candidates but a Trump endorsement is ridiculous, of little meaning. Didn’t he just leave the party? It’s almost embarrassing to be up there with him but we’ll see.

The only plus is if it means no third party.

Sadly probably yes. My wife is a member of the local northeast side TP group and she says all they want to talk about is the Constitution in a philosophical way and work for local candidates. If anything they are most likely to support Paul than anyone else.

“I was cautious about this from the get-go since, Trump is ideologically much closer to Romeny than Newt.”

Can you briefly explain the thinking behind that? It seems that it would be the opposite. This is a disappointment.

Or is Mr. Trump a “fiscal conservative but a social liberal”? We know there is no such reality, but that doesn't stop people from trying to play that game.

Not only that, but is it not written: “The servant is not greater than his master. They hated me; they will hate also you.”?

Sure, it’s difficult now, but we are on the side that ultimately wins, wins big, and wins for all eternity.

Thought everyone yesterday was saying he was backing Newt. Did Bain just invest in Trump Enterprises late last night?

Well, Romney does buy everything. I wouldn't be surprised if Trump was definitely going to endorse Newt and Romney made him an offer he couldn't refuse. The only good thing about it if Mitt gets the nomination is to see Obama run billion dollar circles around Mitt. Payback's a bi+ch.

See my reference in earlier post re China policy...also, I think Trump has marginalized himself with his latest publicity manuevering. Ie this stunt. If not, iit says more about his followers than him, imo. My point was hesitant to buy in to Ttrump’s endorsement of Newt as presented yesterday as it seemed, for several reasons, inconsistent with Trump’s m.o. Not the least of which is that he sees Mitt as eventual nominee and he doesn’t want to back a loser... woulnd’t reflect well upon him— the most important thing!

Back in December when everyone refused the Trump hosted debate but Newt and Santorum there was a posted thread on it and I remember a Newt supporter who commented that Trump was a patriot who had a lot of money 'invested' in this country, after I posted a few negative comments about Trump.
