In July 1996, Mitt Romney helped locate the missing teenage daughter of a partner at Bain Capital.
PolitiFact ^

Posted on 02/02/2012 4:17:25 PM PST by fred4prez

"In July 1996, the 14-year-old daughter of Robert Gay, a partner at Bain Capital, had disappeared," the story reads. "She had attended a rave party in New York City and gotten high on ecstasy. Three days later, her distraught father had no idea where she was. Romney took immediate action. He closed down the entire firm and asked all 30 partners and employees to fly to New York to help find Gay’s daughter. Romney set up a command center at the LaGuardia Marriott and hired a private detective firm to assist with the search. He established a toll-free number for tips, coordinating the effort with the NYPD, and went through his Rolodex and called everyone Bain did business with in New York and asked them to help find his friend’s missing daughter. Romney’s accountants at Price Waterhouse Cooper put up posters on street poles, while cashiers at a pharmacy owned by Bain put fliers in the bag of every shopper. Romney and the other Bain employees scoured every part of New York and talked with everyone they could – prostitutes, drug addicts – anyone.

"That day, their hunt made the evening news, which featured photos of the girl and the Bain employees searching for her. As a result, a teenage boy phoned in, asked if there was a reward, and then hung up abruptly. The NYPD traced the call to a home in New Jersey, where they found the girl in the basement, shivering and experiencing withdrawal symptoms from a massive ecstasy dose. Doctors later said the girl might not have survived another day. Romney’s former partner credits Mitt Romney with saving his daughter’s life, saying, ‘It was the most amazing thing, and I’ll never forget this to the day I die.’

Hi Yaelle-

I try not to be mean or malignant; however, Romney has a history of having his minions run a vicious, nasty campaign behind the scenes; while Mitt stands before the cameras claiming to have no control of what is being done. He is a liar and a hypocrite.

This isn't just my opinion; both Sen McCain and Gov Huckabee complained about the viciousness of Romney's tactics in the 2008 GOP presidential primaries. Now they are supporting him. That is the level of duplicity that is being foisted upon us now by those who control the GOP.

Here in VA they have refused to allow anyone other than Romney and Ron Paul on the primary ballot; not even write-ins are allowed. All the other candidates filed suit to have their names put on the ballot and the Commonweath’s Attorney General tried to have the General Assembly meet in special session; but, Gov McDonnell (who endorsed Romney) and the state GOP squashed that effort.

Virginians have been disenfranchised; which is the worst form of repression and tyranny. So, yes, I am very angry w/Mitt Romney and the cabal who have “railroaded” us on his behalf. He is not a nice man and the network that supports him is both evil and un-American.

For the record, I have nothing against Mormons; I detest Romney for what he has done and continues to do; not his religion.

Take care,

-Geoff

“Bain Capital Founder Robert Gay, who was also a General Authority for the Mormon Church...”
... they sure do take care of their own.”

I noticed this when I researched this story. Also Huntsman now owns Bain Capital. He is Jon Huntsman father and is another Mormon. I wonder if all the partners were Mormon at Bain Capital.

Mitt said he did not inherit his money, but earned it. It looks to me like his Mormon contacts which he inherited from his father is where he got his start.

Okay, but he’s still a faggot loving, baby killing mormon, adopted bastard son of the GOP-e, lying lib POS.

The girl wasn’t found by anything Romney did.

The report of the missing girl was put on the news, boy calls in, cops trace call and the girl is saved.

Now John Kerry, there is the real hero... did you know that he went to Vietnam and on super double secret missions.

Was this even’t seared.... seared into Romney’s memory??

He’s not my candidate—way too liberal and I was totally disillusioned with him when he was guv and I was in MA—but this is a worthy story. It shows him with the right priorities, taking heroic leadership and initiating action.

No, you don’t vote for him for president because of it, but credit given where it’s due.

Sorry, but Mitt Romney is still just a lying small politician with a lot of money.

He still supports the individual insurance mandate.

He still supports his RomneyCare with it’s $50 abortions.

He still refuses to back re-instating DADT.

In short, he is still the same crappy liberal GOP-E candidate he was yesterday.

He is still lying his fool head off.

Not interested.

Get back to me when Mitt quits lying.

Get back to me when he purposely lies about other candidates, even when he knows it is not true.

Then, and only then, you might have a point. In short, get back to me when Mitt has actually repented of his ongoing sinful behavior.

True story of a selfless man of action. Contrast Romney’s determined search with the actions of another Mass senator, one Teddy Kennedy, who drove Mary Jo Kopechne off a bridge as a drunken driver and then left her to drown while he swam away to save his own sorry political a$$.

If he decided it was in the best interests of Bain to do this, he was within his rights to do it

I'm guessing you're not familiar with corporate law and the rights of officers. He wasn't within his rights to do this - if this PR email is remotely a description of what he did.

And what does it have to do with anything that the girl was related to a partner?

That she was a daughter of a partner in Bain? Probably a lot. But I suspect the fact that this girl was the daughter of a General Authority of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints had everything to do with Romney's actions. Don't you?

It was a fine thing to orchestrate, there was no reason to enhance the event.

Yes, some loser establishment Republicans have come out to unleash vitriol against Newt. But there is a difference between Newt and Romney. Newt found Christ, and has repented and been redeemed. Willard is still the same loathsome snake he’s always been. It’s all right there in the open-—its in his words, his voice, his face, his eyes.

And he still can’t stop lying and flopping.

I am familiar with corporate law.

And if I could get the hours of my life back that I spent on silly CEO-mandated company functions, seminars, “leadership training”, and “team building” over the years I would have many fewer grey hairs.

Management is infatuated with this sort of thing; what Romney did is no more of an imposition on his crew, and way more interesting/useful than what goes on every day.

As for the Mormon angle- what of it ? Its his social circle, they are his people. You have your people, I have my people. If one of them has a problem it is more directly my problem than the troubles of some stranger.

Also Huntsman now owns Bain Capital.

No. I don't think so. Huntsman, Jr.'s (the ex-Presidental candidate) father is a name partner in Huntsman Gay Global Capital. Gay is Robert Gay, LDS General Authority (an Area Seventy and former Mission President over part of Africa) and former Bain Capital founder.

And Bain just bought a $600 million stake in The Huntsman Corporation. And there are more links.

But neither Huntsman (Sr. or Jr.) owns Bain Capital.

Anybody know something I'm missing?

I am familiar with corporate law.

Not familiar enough, apparently. Not an attorney, I'll assume. Normally, that's a compliment, but here it means . . . you don't understand corporate law.

[W]hat Romney did is no more of an imposition on his crew, and way more interesting/useful than what goes on every day.

First, we have no idea what Romney did. This email is obvious a bunch of bunk. It's more useful, but no more of an imposition than leadership training and seminars. Riiiiiight.

As for the Mormon angle- what of it?

Ummm. You're the one who said "And what does it have to do with anything that the girl was related to a partner?" And now you're saying:

Its his social circle, they are his people. You have your people, I have my people. If one of them has a problem it is more directly my problem than the troubles of some stranger.

Excuse me, but I was pointing out that he wasn't just magically helping out some girl in trouble. He was taking care of his own. Doubly his own. Bain and LDS General Authority. I think you're agreeing with me but couching it in terms of disagreeing with me because you can't bring yourself to admit I was right.

So have a good night.

Why does it matter why he did it?

Motive? Doing something good is always doing something good on some level.

However, if Mitt had read about some poor black Baptist girl who was missing and the police weren't doing anything, and he threw the resources of Bain and his own personal resources into finding her? That's one thing.

If a daughter of one of his wealthy partners is missing, and the rest of the wealthy partners in the firm assist in finding her, using their employees to assist with the search? That's still nice, but it's a completely different story.

Not quite like the Crimson Tide Football Boosters club helping the family of some spelling bee champion in Wisconsin rebuild a storm-damaged house, versus the Crimson Tide Football Boosters club helping the family of the top high school football recruit in Memphis rebuild a storm-damaged house. But along the same lines. One impresses me more than the other. But both are nice.

As such, Free Republic is Pro-Life.

And what governor in this country has ended abortions in his state, even with majority public support ?
