David Burnett, one of the authors, is our very own DaveLoneRanger.
Ping; FReeper author, Cato paper, good stuff.
I studied under a guy named Gary Kleck at Fsu. He’s a liberal as expected, but did some great studies.. gun rights protect citizens and deter crime.. a no brainer.
The inescapable fact is, when a criminal enters your home there are no cops there. If you are lucky enough to hear them entering and call the cops, there is a certain amount of time before the cops get to your house. In a gun control world the criminal is armed and in your house and you are not armed and are waiting for “help” to get to you. Chances are very good that by the time “help” arrives you are either dead, injured or raped and the criminal is on his way home...and the cops are left to fill out a report.
There is no obligation for cops to protect us.. a 9mm will though.
I prefer a 45. My son his Tokarev in 7.62 x25
Currently here in Grant County New Mexico, an inmate with federal charges escaped the detention center yesterday. The individual (Scott Freeman) has told his ex-wife and her family that he desired to kill them all. In this community along the Gila River the HQ of both the State Police and the County Sheriff are over 30 miles away.
I am thankful that this community is armed. Escapee Scott Freeman would be a Meth’d up dip-s*it to come back here into this community.
I do not understand libtards.
Yes! There is no obligation to protect.. they are report takers.. im engulfed in a healthcare law class for an mba, but my experience is in law enforcement.. don’t rely on cops. They are always late..
You are correct.
Or as I like to say, the police are there to secure the crime scene for the EMTs and possibly the M.E.
Armed self defense by citizens is so the above crew have a much better chance to be dealing with the appropriate person.
My comment went to wrong person about the 45 acp.
Of course! Its our right! Im underserved by the a .380 s&w bodyguard. But I feel ok today. Will be pursuing. 22lr in the near future. Im not rich. Im a tea party guy..
Downloaded for later.
“Im a tea party guy..”
Do you really want to pursue a lesser caliber? Most of us here on Free Republic are ‘tea party guys’ as well...
CUSTOMER IN CONVIENCE STORE: "Hey, you..... got a question for you."
PUNK POINTING GUN AT STORE CLERK: Ya'll all talking to me, Mother Fxxker?
CUSTOMER: "Yeppers, big boy."
PUNK: "What kinda question you want ax me, Fxxk Face?"
CUSTOMER: "Here it is....do you know what 'double tap means?"
PUNK: "Fxxk yo mama, Mother Fxxker."
CUSTOMER (pulling back his jacket with left hand and reaching to his waist with his right):"This, a$$hole !!"
LATER, ANOTHER CUSTOMER WHO HAD JUST ENTERED THE STORE: "I don't know, officer...I was about to open the door and walk in when I heard 'bang, bang' real fast and close together. Then, saw that guy hitting the floor and the guy wearing the suit, by the Coke machine with a big smile on his face".
She still is Miss America to me!
Hi everyone! I thought you might like to see this, the culmination of many years of work from Clayton Cramer and myself...and many years of posting here on Free Republic!
By way of update: After Righthaven sued Clayton and myself over the Armed Citizen blog, any dreams of souping it up into a professional resource dried up. I’d left my job at TSA (yes, THAT TSA) to pursue these goals, along with a law degree.
For those of you who know, law is a terrible field right now and enough research made me turn down a very handsome scholarship to a private Christian law school. I now work at a hospital and am pursuing a career as a nurse.
I still write for the NRA, Cato, et. al., plus I’ve done a couple of paid debates around the country to support campus carry, which is my pet issue at the moment.
There’s my little update. I still lurk around here sometimes, but you guys have been around since I BEGAN the journey to support gun rights, so it’s only fair to let you know why you’re not getting any pings, or why the website isn’t up to date.
Hope you enjoy the paper, and please come support Students for Concealed Carry at Facebook.com/ConcealedCampus or www.ConcealedCampus.org
Was wondering where you gone off to!
That round will scare the hell out of whatever it doesn't hit.
Thanks for the ping.
Good luck in your new carrier at the hospital and thanks for the update ping.
If you have the time, give the list a shout whenever you get published or have a chance to appear on TV
On her behalf, I'd like to give you a big, FReeping THANK YOU for both the website and your efforts.
She'll be thrilled when I tell her I've spoken to you.
It is important, however, for conscientious policymakers to consider not only the stated goals of gun control regulations, but the actual results that they produce. That, right there, is the problem. Leftists don't care if the legislation works. As long as they give the apperance of doing something and they're doing so with all the best intentions, results don't matter.
The overarching purpose of the second amendment is to allow the people to protect themselves against the very entity that wishes to disarm us - the government.
“...being necessary for the security of a FREE STATE,...”
We can’t hardly have a free state when the government has a monopoly on weapons now, can we?
It's really hard to compile accurate statistics on defensive gun use, since many cases may not be reported. Some years ago, I had to draw on a druggie to convince him to get out of my car and leave me alone. I continued my drive, never reported it, and was more diligent thereafter about keeping my car doors locked when driving in the city.
I think the perfect example (well, not perfect but notably representative) is in the movie "Men in Black" when the Alien approaches the tow truck driver with the shotgun - the tow truck driver simply says "Please..." and then pulls back his jacket to display a rather large revolver (possibly a 44 mag, but I don't remember).
How many times does just displaying a weapon give the bad guy second thoughts. I mean, stealing a quick $40 from Granny seems easy, but it isn't worth the risk of getting a 38 caliber hole through the head!
It is safe to assume that any reported numbers are absolute minimums due to the above. But accurate numbers mean zip to the anti-2nd crowd. They ignore anything except what they "feeeeeelllll" is right. I loved the case in which two anti-gunners were going to do a statistical study to "debunk" Gary Kleck, and ended up getting MUCH HIGHER values for defensive gun usage than he did. They spent a large part of their paper proving why THEIR OWN NUMBERS just had to be wrong.
You can kill a man or any type of African big game with a .22. With that said, shot placement becomes more critical as caliber decreases. For myself, give me .45 the way Colt figured it for (semi) automatic pistols.
If your son is confident enough of his marksmanship even in the heat of a life or death encounter, more power to him.
You’ve been a busy guy. We’ve missed your posts.
Exactly! The only part of a firearm I have ever used for self defense is the rackety rack of a pump 12 ga. I never mentioned to the police exactly why the guy trying to break down my door left so suddenly.
Nice to see you. Please keep in touch, and thanks for the ping.
How is the recoil on that Tokarev? My wife does not like .45 due to the recoil and when she shoots .38 Special out of her .357 snub, well that is about as much as she can handle.
But that is the problem -- liberals/Progscum never state the real purpose of an overarching concept like gun control. Gun control ensures that they will be able to put boot on the throats of their adversaries. There is no other end in view.
Congratulations on getting the paper published!
Many thanks for the ping :)
It is amazing what absurd logic the left will use to force their insanity upon us. If a law forbidding gun ownership would stop people from shooting people it would be pointless and unnecessary for that very reason, anyone with the capability of adding two and two should be able to realize this.
Rock on Dave. Good job switching gears and adapting; seeing the writing on the wall about pursuing a law career. Thanks for the update and for all your prior pings.
I wonder how hard it would be to design a 12 gauge shotgun pistol. Something like an oversize derringer.
Of course you’d have to develop special loads as well because a regular 12 gauge shell would probably take the shooters arm off a the shoulder, but could you imagine the look in a mugger’s face when he faced a bore that size?
And heck, with one of those, you’d only need one shot anywhere.
Messy cleanup, though.
What you're looking for is the LeMat Pistol, designed in the mid 19thC. Very popular cavalry weapon during the Civil War. It was a big-bore six-shooter with a 16-gauge barrel underneath, looking something like the idea of the 40MM tube under an M16.
The LeMat is currently being manufactured in Italy and the US by a couple of those companies that work the Cowboy Shooters and collectors markets. Apparently works great!
Should be enough to cause immediate and severe local sanitation problems amongst your neighborhood perps.
IMNSVHO, not a good candidate for IWB concealed carry, unless you weigh about 375 and wear muumuu's under a parka.
