The U.S. economy produced another solid month of job gains in January, offering a hopeful sign for hiring in the year ahead.
Employers added a net 243,000 jobs last month, the Labor Department reported Friday. Thats higher than December, when employers added a net 200,000 jobs, and it marked the seventh straight month in which at least 100,000 jobs were created. That hasn't happened since 2005.
The nations unemployment rate fell to 8.3 percent in January from 8.5 percent in the prior month. The unemployment rate has fallen for the past five months and is now at its lowest level in nearly three years.

This is true. We hit rock bottom and there was no where to go but up. Sticking your head in the sand and denying reality is not a good strategery. Truth is, massaged results or not, the economy is improving. It was bound to improve, its what happens after a recession. Obama will take as much credit as possible, and the MSM will carry his water for him.
All they have to do is convince the small number of people who actually matter in a presidential election (perhaps 10% of voters), and the job is done.
The republican nominee better have the right message and presentation, or he is sunk. As I have said all along, its going to be much harder to beat Obama than most people on FR have thought.
The fact that even Fox News runs with this as if it's accurate is sickening. At least they will sometimes stumble across the truth.
Hermann Goebbels would be proud of the propaganda machine run by this administration. Tell me his quote doesn't fit Obama and the Dems:
If you tell a lie big enough and keep repeating it, people will eventually come to believe it. The lie can be maintained only for such time as the State can shield the people from the political, economic and/or military consequences of the lie. It thus becomes vitally important for the State to use all of its powers to repress dissent, for the truth is the mortal enemy of the lie, and thus by extension, the truth is the greatest enemy of the State.. Quote from Hermann Goebbels
Yes, TomGuy, "studies"show that the Version O version is the most manipulative version since Version G (Goebbels).
Hermann Goebbels would be proud....
So would Josef Goering.
the truth is going to be made soon, very soon
If Dear Leader instructs his Labor Dept. employee to cook the books, the books will be cooked. (It’s good to be King, y’know.)
The January report for December reflected seasonal part-time employees for Christmas so it would make sense that numbers would be a little high then. But those seasonal jobs went away in January, so there’s no way today’s report is accurate.
I was surprised that S. Varney was all excited about the (alleged) good news; sounds like Fox News is buying the lie.
This is like Obama commenting to that lady that her husband should NOT be having trouble finding a job in his industry. Sounds a lot like how the German Officers just couldn’t bring themselves to telling Hitler what was REALLY going on on the battlefield. German troops were getting annihilated and they told him that he was winning.
The economy is in the toilet and his “handlers” are telling him that everything is rosy.
We had a population of 305 million when Obama took office, with 133.6 million jobs (BLS total non-farm employment), or 43.8% of the population employed.
We now have a population of 313 million with 130.3 million jobs, or 41.6% of the population employed.
Obama has cost us 3.3 million jobs, while maintaining the same employment rate would have required adding 3.5 million jobs to keep up with population growth. The number of additional Americans who have no job because of the administration's economic mismanagement is about 6.8 million. I wonder how many of them will vote for Obama one more time.
Today, I think people are saying, "I'm scared. My neighbor just lost his house. My brother-in-law is homeless. I'm just glad the recovery is so strong -- I can't imagine how bad things would be if Obama weren't in there making things better. We need to keep the Democrats in power so that the economy stays on track."
That is just sick passive/aggressiveness and describes the way they think to a T.
Happy days are here again.....yep
Those that do not know history are doomed to repeat it. The Democrats, Obma, et al, forget the “Reagan Democrats”; Democrats that got tired of being out of work, having high prices and interest rates, and being told by Democrats like Carter that all was well.
Today in a Bloomberg report on the UE rate at the very end of the article, the government’s ‘new methodologies’ and other attempts at screwing with the numbers were disclosed:
With todays jobs report, the government issued its annual benchmark update, aligning the data with corporate tax records covering the period from April 2010 to March 2011. The Labor Department added 165,000 to the job count over the period.
The report also included methodology changes to the household survey, incorporating new population data from the decennial census, according to the Labor Department.
It also included changes to the figures used to adjust the data for seasonal swings affecting numbers back to January 2007.
When more than 1.9 million first-time unemployment claims were filed in January?
How did employers hire a quarter of a million people without adding one minute to average hours worked?
A record 1.2 million dropped out of the labor force. Spin that.
Where do the American Airline’s 13,000 newly laid off fit in?
Nice to have a media willing to lie, cheat, and steal for ya ain’t it Barry?
Its not about "America", its about those 20% in the middle. Those 20% in the middle are, well, intellectually lazy, to say the least. As for being sunk, the way I see it, we have been slowly sinking for many decades, as conservatives, we are lucky to slow the sinking at best these days.
Yea, yea...the Obama administration cooking numbers to make it look like things are better. People out in flyover land know better.
These numbers, as they have consistantly been, will be revised to the negative next week or two...and will get no press notice when they are.
The CBO projects unemployment will rise, hitting 8.8 percent in the third quarter of the year, the heart of the campaign.
The bombshell CBO report and why Obama should be worried
Hot Air ^ | February 2, 2012 | Ed Morrissey
Today, Politicos Jim VandeHei reports that economic indicators should have Barack Obama worried about his re-election prospects, not more sanguine. VandeHei relies heavily on this weeks economic and deficit projections from the CBO, but perhaps not heavily enough:
A new CBO report grabbed lots of headlines for projecting the deficit will top $1 trillion this year making Obama the first president ever to pile up $1 trillion or more every year in office. Thats not great politics. But its not even the worst news contained in the CBO report. The unemployment number is.
The CBO projects unemployment will rise, hitting 8.8 percent in the third quarter of the year, the heart of the campaign. Thats terrible politics. Obama advisers have told us repeatedly on background that if unemployment is above 8.5 percent in the final months of the campaign, it will be extremely hard, if not impossible, to win. The advisers say independents will not return to Obama if it looks like economic growth is anemic and uncertain and it looks like his policies did little, if anything, to create new jobs under his watch.
Economists seem divided on the question of whether robust enough economic and job growth can happen in time for Obama to benefit. Some see signs of possibility in holiday sales and consumer spending in some parts of the country. Others see more of the same: a slow slog back. The CBO sees 2.2 percent growth in the quarter ending in September, essentially the same sluggish pace of a year earlier.

And your basing that on what exactly? The BLS numbers? They're bogus!
Do you know what the birth/death rate is with respect to the published BLS numbers? This is a part of the formula they use to come to their fictitious numbers. They literally GUESS that there must have been x number of new small businesses formed last month in the US economy and y number of small businesses that have folded. So by manipulating the GUESS they can make the final number employment numbers say anything they want.
I saw the 4lb bag of sugar the other day.
The BLS manipulates the numbers all the Hell. Such as, they remove from those counted as unemployed that have not sought work in the past 30 days. Also, they claim to interview the same 60,000 people each month, yet, where are those people? Which States and industry sectors? That “polling”, in itself, is manipulation.
See this thread explaining how 1.2 million people have dropped out of the labor force.
most of the people not only do not know the truth, they are not interested in learning the truth. They prefer to believe as gospel what the six o'clock news anchors tell them. The stock market will continue to do what it takes to make obama look good.
Part-timers and the abandoned not accounted for.
Go to Hell, propagandists.
This says it all. These are jobs that will never return to the US and the people that occupied them have already long exhausted their unemployment benefits so they are counted anymore.
These numbers put out by the Labor Dept are nothing but another Government agency trying to help Obama.
America will pass judgement on Obama not the media on election day!....
And what does Boehner say? Essentially nothing but “we could do better”...no mention of employment participation rate being LOWEST!!!
Boehner is essentially a useful idiot for Soros/Obama.
I just spoke to an economist at the Labor Dept and at first he denied the adjustment would be that high until he looked at the numbers and had to admit it was the reason for the drop. He then qualified it with “under every President they adjust the numbers, not just for Obama”.
I asked him what the percentage would be if the workforce numbers were the same as Jan. 2009 and he told me “9.4% to 9.5%”.
“A record 1.2 million dropped out of the labor force. Spin that.”
Most any government employee that can retire and lock in a defined benefit pension is. Florida is filling up with early retired city/state/fed employees from the Upper Midwest and NE. These are people in their late 40’s to mid 50’s and they will be retired for 30 years. They will bankrupt us.
Next up, Obama exective order requiring everyone to have a job by spring.
I think you're on to something. Maybe the way we should tally unemployment is count up the job classifieds. That should get right about 1.5% LOL!
Morning and afternoon commute times.
I thought I made that clear.
There is a lot more traffic this year than there has been in the last 2 years. To me that is the LEADING economic indicator. When the time it takes to get to work is increased, then the logical conclusion is that there are more people going to work along with you.
So by manipulating the GUESS they can make the final number employment numbers say anything they want.
What if the economy IS improving? Would that upset you? Is our only weapon to use against Obama the fact that the economy is worse than when George W Bush left office? What are we going to do if the Stock Market is above 14,000 and unemployment is below 8% come November?
What will our campaign strategy be then?
For a complete and total destruction of those numbers:
This isn't cooking the books, it's nuking them.
Unemployment Definition - Abbott and Costello
COSTELLO: I want to talk about the unemployment rate in America .
ABBOTT: Good Subject. Terrible times. It’s 9%.
COSTELLO: That many people are out of work?
ABBOTT: No, that’s 16%.
COSTELLO: You just said 9%.
ABBOTT: 9% Unemployed.
COSTELLO: Right 9% out of work.
ABBOTT: No, that’s 16%.
COSTELLO: Okay, so it’s 16% unemployed.
ABBOTT: No, that’s 9%...
COSTELLO: Wait a minute. Is it 9% or 16%?
ABBOTT: 9% are unemployed. 16% are out of work.
COSTELLO: IF you are out of work you are unemployed.
ABBOTT: No, you can’t count the “Out of Work” as the unemployed. You have to look for work to be unemployed.
COSTELLO: BUT THEY ARE OUT OF WORK!
ABBOTT: No, you miss my point.
COSTELLO: What point?
ABBOTT: Someone who doesn’t look for work, can’t be counted with those who look for work. It wouldn’t be fair.
COSTELLO: To whom?
ABBOTT: The unemployed.
COSTELLO: But they are ALL out of work.
ABBOTT: No, the unemployed are actively looking for work. Those who are out of work stopped looking. They gave up. And, if you give up, you are no longer in the ranks of the unemployed.
COSTELLO: So if you’re off the unemployment roles, that would count as less unemployment?
ABBOTT: Unemployment would go down. Absolutely!
COSTELLO: The unemployment just goes down because you don’t look for work?
ABBOTT: Absolutely it goes down. That’s how you get to 9%. Otherwise it would be 16%. You don’t want to read about 16% unemployment do ya?
COSTELLO: That would be frightening.
COSTELLO: Wait, I got a question for you. That means they’re two ways to bring down the unemployment number?
ABBOTT: Two ways is correct.
COSTELLO: Unemployment can go down if someone gets a job?
OSTELLO: And unemployment can also go down if you stop looking for a job?
COSTELLO: So there are two ways to bring unemployment down, and the easier of the two is to just stop looking for work.
ABBOTT: Now you’re thinking like an economist.
COSTELLO: I don’t even know what the **** I just said!
And now you know why Obama’s unemployment figures are improving!
Perhaps the BLS ought to be relocated to the Department of Agriculture, because they now seem to specialize in fertilizer production.
Morning and afternoon commute times.
Oh, you ought to notify the BLS that your commute time (which is anecdotal information) has increased. They can then create a new fudge factor to make the Employment number look even better. Maybe they will name the new fudge factor after you?
And you're basing that on what exactly?
I thought you actually looked at some real economic numbers apart from your anecdotal information.
Did you even bother to look at the thread I referred you to earlier? It reported 1.2 million human beings in this country have dropped out of the workforce. But you don't care since they are not on the path of your commute.
Just a simple slight of hand.
I don't think the GOP wants to dignify these "numbers" with any validity by citing them.
Maybe I am naive, but I think the American people know sh*t from shinola and these numbers just serve to increase cynicism about this administration. Who are they going to believe, these numbers of "their own lying eyes"?
I say, the eyes have it.
“But they lie shamelessly.”
They’re clinging to the old adage: “If you repeat the lie often enough it becomes the truth”. Problem is too many people know too many other people out of work or working part-time; it won’t save the Kenyan Pirate’s re-election bid.
Today, I think people are saying, “I'm scared. My neighbor just lost his house. My brother-in-law is homeless. I'm just glad the recovery is so strong — I can't imagine how bad things would be if Obama weren't in there making things better. We need to keep the Democrats in power so that the economy stays on track.”
And that is why Obama will be reelected. In general, We the People are THAT stupid.
Here is the supporting link. You can pick the time span at the top of the page. Why the hell don’t Santorum and Gingrich use this?
