The Mormon moment
Politico ^ | February 2, 2012 | MJ Lee

As Mitt Romney solidifies his frontrunner status with a double-digit win this week in the Florida Republican primary, Mormons are embracing a unique moment in their political history that has been dubbed the “Mormon moment” — but not without concerns about what the increasing prominence could mean for their community.

In extensive interviews with 10 members of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints who live and work in the D.C.-area, POLITICO discovered a close-knit community that is enjoying, granted with some reservations, the national spotlight that Romney’s second White House bid is helping to shine on Mormons across the country.

Last month, the Pew Research Center released a 125-page report titled “Mormons in America” that surveyed over 1,000 members of the LDS Church. According to the poll, the majority of Mormons across the country, 63 percent, said they believe acceptance of their religion is on the rise.

JST or KJV ?

Either god(s) were lying or Brigham Young was lying...Is that why you can't answer Pancho ? How could a true 'restoration' get so messed up so soon afetr the 'first vision' ?

This is the very root of your "religion" THE VERY ROOT !

Everyone is watching....

reason is not the be all, end all. What does reason tell you about Christ’s resurrection? That it couldn’t happen, but yet it did. That He could not effect miracles. He did that, too.

"you can mock the peace of the spirit (and it is sad that you do),"

I posted your own contradictory scriptures, that also contradict the word of God which HE promised would never pass away. I also posted God's instructions to test all things against his undying word.

You still have not answered my question. You cannot, the sprirt of God has confounded you with the truth. Brainwashing has left you incredulous.

KJV OR JST ?

Is that rising blood pressure "peace of the spirit" ?

I know exactly what you are feeling, I'VE BEEN THERE.

I do not have to be ashamed of a single word or deed of Christ.

Break free from the bondage of false doctrines, laws and works. Throw off the heavy yokes of shame of the history of false prophets. Christ's burden is light, and he will end your confusion and take the pain of your shame.

Hopefully he'll have it ready by next election season.

Ah, got it. You said that Utah sent a polygamist as their first representative, which was obviously false. Thanks for the correction on whom you were referring to.

Is that what you truly think, that reason must lead to the resurrection being impossible, so you accept it absent reason? Wow, you really are uneducated on the Bible and what faith really is. How many times did Jesus refer to 'those that have (spiritual) eyes, let them see'?

Here's a clue. A faithful person reads the Old and New Testament and involves his/her reason at all turns. A real Christian's reason is edified by his or her God's Spirit generated faith. It is part of what to be born again and become a new creation is all about.

The Christian reader comes upon a scene as depicted in Daniel Chapter Five and since this person believes God, the scene is a telling of real events ... and yet a hand, just a hand, not a body just a hand, appeared in the King of Babylon's palace party central and wrote on a wall in plain view of the king and his guests!

IF you are a person who believes God, the scene is an eye witness account. On the other hand, if you are a Mormon who wants to excuse lies and deception and false prophecies and the sexual predation of Joseph Smith, you will tell a faithful person seeking to lead you out of the moronISM darkness that 'reason dictates the scene cannot be real'.

It really would behoove you to learn the contrast between reason edified by faith in God's Promises and just reason edified by the opinions of others. Did you know that 'Abraham believed God, and it was counted for him righteousness' is a real assertion in the Bible? And do you know what Abraham believed and did which proved his belief? Look it up, the reality may surprise you. [ Here's a hint: Abraham proved he innately believed God by what he said to those accompanying him and his son on that trip to the mountain for the sacrifice. ]

He did it because he was ‘called’ to it by his Stake President. Mormons don’t usually use the term Bishop after they are ‘released’ from the calling (usually about 2 years but it varies).

However, it is a bit much to say he did it for the love of Christ. Bishopric calling is somewhat common and when you are ‘called’ to ANY job in the LDS you are expected to serve. It is also a stepping stone to other higher callings like Stake President.

Tepid is right, though, they don’t get paid, ANYMORE. They used to though.

No, actually reason does tell me it happened because of his word and his power and the things that are observable that are also part of God’s world and Word.

you will be excommunicated for polygamy, but don’t let facts get in the way

Only by the SLC branch of LDS.

THAT is the bunch that threw their 'god' under the bus in favor of statehood.

I appreciate your concern, but, as I said before, I read the texts and I'm not basing my belief on opinions of others. I'm basing it on personal experience reading the word of God and feeling the presence of the spirit which enlightens my understanding. I was responding to the reader who said her/his reason leads to a belief that Mormonism is false. Well, I have spiritual confirmation contrary to his/her reasoning.

The last time the Mormon missionaries came to our door, I invited them back for dinner (those boys live on Top Ramen), and had a captive audience to witness to them for 2 hours afterwards since they schedule the whole evening and are too polite to leave.

After that they crossed the street rather than walk by my house for a couple of years.

Yet they have never renounced the doctrine of polygamy, just the practice and even that (the Offical Declaration 1) isn’t worded as a revelation.

Then there is the whole polygamy in the next life thing, with men being able to be married for eternity to more than one wife.

Also, I know at least one polygamous LDS family (they keep it quiet) who have not been excommunicated. I have heard of others, but know this one personally.

That's just BoM scripture.

Don't you realize that LATER scripture trumps what you find in the BoM?

In conclusion let us summarize this grand key, these “Fourteen Fundamentals in Following the Prophet”, for our salvation depends on them.

1. The prophet is the only man who speaks for the Lord in everything.
2. The living prophet is more vital to us than the standard works.
3. The living prophet is more important to us than a dead prophet.
4. The prophet will never lead the church astray.
5. The prophet is not required to have any particular earthly training or credentials to speak on any subject or act on any matter at any time.
6. The prophet does not have to say “Thus Saith the Lord,” to give us scripture.
7. The prophet tells us what we need to know, not always what we want to know.
8. The prophet is not limited by men’s reasoning.
9. The prophet can receive revelation on any matter, temporal or spiritual.
10. The prophet may advise on civic matters.
11. The two groups who have the greatest difficulty in following the prophet are the proud who are learned and the proud who are rich.
12. The prophet will not necessarily be popular with the world or the worldly.
13. The prophet and his counselors make up the First Presidency—the highest quorum in the Church.
14. The prophet and the presidency—the living prophet and the First Presidency—follow them and be blessed—reject them and suffer.

I testify that these fourteen fundamentals in following the living prophet are true. If we want to know how well we stand with the Lord then let us ask ourselves how well we stand with His mortal captain—how close do our lives harmonize with the Lord’s anointed—the living Prophet—President of the Church, and with the Quorum of the First Presidency.

Ezra Taft Benson

3 And they (the Gods) said: Let there be light; and there was light.

(click)
Praise to the Man!

Praise to the man who communed with Jehovah!
Jesus annointed that Prophet and Seer.
Blessed to open the last dispensation,
Kings shall extol him, and nations revere.

Chorus
Hail to the Prophet, ascended to heaven!
Traitors and tyrants now fight him in vain.
Mingling with Gods, he can plan for his brethren;
Death cannot conquer the hero again.

Praise to his mem'ry, he died as a martyr;
Honored and blest be his ever great name!
Long shall his blood, which was shed by assasins,
Plead unto heav'n while the earth lauds his fame.

Chorus
Hail to the Prophet, ascended to heaven!
Traitors and tyrants now fight him in vain.
Mingling with Gods, he can plan for his brethren;
Death cannot conquer the hero again.

Great is his glory and endless his priesthood.
Ever and ever the keys he will hold.
Faithful and true he will enter his kingdom,
Crowned in the midst of the prophets of old.

Chorus
Hail to the Prophet, ascended to heaven!
Traitors and tyrants now fight him in vain.
Mingling with Gods, he can plan for his brethren;
Death cannot conquer the hero again.

Sacrifice brings forth the blessings of heaven;
Earth must atone for the blood of that man.
Wake up the world for the conflict of justice.
Millions shall know 'Brother Joseph' again.

Chorus
Hail to the Prophet, ascended to heaven!
Traitors and tyrants now fight him in vain.
Mingling with Gods, he can plan for his brethren;
Death cannot conquer the hero again.

So Joseph Smith and Brigham Young were liars when they said men had to take multiple wives to enter heaven? Wonder what else they were not so prophetic about?

"Now if any of you will deny the plurality of wives, and continue to do so, I promise that you will be damned;

and I will go still further and say, take this revelation, or any other revelation that the Lord has given,

and deny it in your feelings, and I promise that you will be damned.

Brigham Young - JoD 3:266 (July 14, 1855)

I would think that if I were an SLC type of 'mormon'; I'd be quite WORRIED at this point!!

You mean facts like Joseph Smith LIED about practicing polygamy?

That the LDS church lies to its members?

That the LDS missionaries fail to disclose certain doctrines?

Facts like that Smith had many false prophecies making him a false prophet?

Facts like LDS leaders have taught that Adam was God, Jesus was a polygamist and that is why he was crucified?

Want me to go one?

If you want facts about Mormonism, stay tuned we have them all here.
