Thanks for the heads up! Indeed, it was a wonderful speech as usual. I will take Mr. Newt, with all his imperfections, adulterous affairs, and all, over Romney or Santorum. Mr. Newt wants to fix America, not just manage the deterioration of this great nation. If adultery stopped every man from running for president, then we would finally have a woman president.

I do not care about his personal problems. Mr. Newt has gone to God, asked forgiveness and made a new life for himself. Clean slate! That is what God's forgiveness gives you, why can't all of us be that forgiving?

GOD SPEED MR. NEWT! You have my prayers and support!

I could probably see it if I could quite crying. The cry of my heart as I watched this was, Lord I want this man to be my President!
How funny is that, that I would want, more than any other, a man with such a jaded past. I think men who have been truly show their sin and have truly repented and have been humbled by God, make the BEST leaders. They, more than most, know where their real strength comes from. They understand the heights from which you can fall, if you do not keep your eyes on Him.

Lord bless Speaker Gingrich and guide his every step! Amen!

I got to see all of it! Thank you so very much for posting this! What a marvelous singer - that “God Bless America” was amazing.

I’m so glad that Newt and Callista agreed to go to this thing. I love that he gave that high school student an autograph for extra credit! That was so fun!

His speech was outstanding as usual.

You give an excellent analysis! The pastor echoed your sentiments when he said that King David “had a past” too, and he turned out to be one of Israel’s most important leaders.

This was a very uplifting way to spend a Friday evening!

God Bless Newt and his wife!

We had a man come to our church who had done research on different forms of worship within the Christian church...he had come across a man who only had a tin can and a stick for an instrument..yet the man worshiped God with all his heart...with a tin can and a stick...It was a cacaphonous sound to the man doing research. BUT it is not the sound God is interested in...it is the heart. I have been in all sorts of church services..from the very traditional to the very contemporary...all serve their congregations well. I grew up in the 70’s..the Beatles etc...I grew up to the sound of guitars and drums.....it would be hard for me to worship God through Gregorian chants..although I am sure at the time the Gregorian chant moved those who worshiped in that way. God inhabits his praises....it is unfortunate that you were so caught up on the performance side of the worship that you missed out on God. A man with a tin can and a stick can bring the presence of God through the purity of his worship...and the people on this worship team are no less.

Starting his own international church is a pretty good way of messing with Mitt's head.

Especially if he makes polygamy OK.

Totally agree with you. No one and nothing is perfect. Newt is our best bet. We MUST remove this socialist/marxist vermin from the White House. We're being attacked from every direction by socialists/marxists/communists/revolutionaries/islamic sharia law sympathizers. Overwhelming odds so it would seem, but soldiers of wars past fought overwhelming odds and died for this country so that we may be free. It's our turn now to meet this challenge.

I will pray for Newt, and ask God to give us the grace to make the right choices, to stay the course and return our country to the Constitution, freedom and liberty. And may we all fight with all our might, and be in it to WIN it. Amen.

You need to be very careful if you donate money at the 360 site... they have several donation links and ads, that most people assume are linking to the official campaign, but they are not, the links are for donations to 360. I personally know one person who donated $500 there, thinking it was going to Newt, but it went to 360, and another person donated, thinking it was going to Newt, but was able to get a refund.

Here are 2 links of official Newt pages for volunteers:

I like how he was introduced as the Winston Churchill of our times. They said that Churchill was a flawed hero. He was hated by his political foes, was bombastic and had lots of personal rough places. Just like Newt. In the same way, Newt is the man for our times.

‘_______why Evangelical music is so insipid.’

Have a spouse who feels similar to you.

We raised 4 daughters in a mainline church.
I sang in choirs for years. Daughters sang in kids’ choirs. We all were very active on various committees.
Two became Evangelicals some years ago.
We have occasions to attend their churches because of grandkids’ events there.

Spouse loves classical music, show tunes, hymns, - knows music to a degree. - so the praise and worship teams in daughter’s churches cause quiet spouse utter distraction. Sometimes the music is great, but other times - - -
Guess it’s all what one is used to.

All would be fine if there wasn’t the repeating and repeating and repeating of the same words and phrases. So this style of church doesn’t work for some.
Well, the message/lesson/sermon may, but the music - - - not so much.
I’m glad there are choices.
And very glad there is such attendance at Evangelical churches.

Interesting that RC Newt agreed to attend that church. It’s good to know what goes on in different churches. Everyone can take away something.
Unfortunately, I didn’t see a minute of it.

Regarding the repeating words over and over in some of the songs....

I once heard one of our pastors say he pushes for that,,so people can be less focused on the words and join in the praise and let themselves feel the music and get into an actual worship attitude. He likened it to inviting people to come together in a type of “meditative” state before God and focus on more important things than getting the words right.

I have A.D.D. so repetition bores me to tears. When I find myself going there, I just quit singing and listen. Sometimes, it’s amazing.

You’re not wrong, but it may be an age thing. I liked that clap-happy stuff myself when I was a teenager. I absolutely can’t stand it now. Traditional hymns are genuinely great music.

I visit other churches when I travel. Mostly I find their 7-11 music uninspiring. To me it is insipid.

One can update the tempo and the instruments even the melody of a great hymn and keep its lyrics. Hymns are full of essential theology.

We sing a lot of Robert Shaw arrangements at our church since our director was trained by him. Here's an uplifting one that our youth choir sang a couple of years ago. Robert Shaw, Carol of the Bells

“I visit other churches when I travel. Mostly I find their 7-11 music uninspiring.”

Its not that these people are not worshiping sincerely, but its just that there are aesthetic criteria for evaluating the quality of music. This stuff doesn’t measure up to other generations of worship music writers.

People with little talent are writing worship songs which they perhaps assume are God inspired. “God gave me this song....” Then no one can say, “excuse me but this music is boring, repetitive and the lyrics don’t make sense, let alone promote a coherent theological idea.”
