Gingrich says he will not drop out of the race tonight [Nevada LIVE THREAD]
Wash Times ^ | 2-4-12 | Hallow

Posted on 02/04/2012 3:55:17 PM PST by VinL

Newt Gingrich will stay in the Republican presidential nomination contest despite an expected loss to Mitt Romney in Saturday’s Nevada caucuses, the former speaker told The Washington Times late Saturday afternoon.

“We had excellent fundraising meetings and calls yesterday,” Mr. Gingrich said. “Super Tuesday and beyond look good.”

The Georgia native thus dispelled rumors circulating in the press that his campaign had scheduled a press conference for late Saturday, after the results were in from the Nevada caucuses.

“We will probably be a solid second here with [Rick] Santorum in last place,” Mr. Gingrich said, while acknowledging indirectly that attracting donors and voters in sufficient force to overtake Mr. Romney will be a challenge in the coming weeks.

That’s the big secret: I worked my heart out for Newt - started with my neighbors, invited them over, we’d watch Newt’s debate highlights, just Newt, so we didn’t have to waste time listening to the idiots.

the more they listened, watched and read, the more they liked him. They all voted for him in FL - dems moderates christians jews hispanics military seniors young ones...

they needed consistent exposure to Newt to offset and finally get them above the media portrait of him... it can be done. Nobody did that for Sarah because she wasn’t running for anything when they were systematically demonizing her... Newt has active supporters to paint a new picture of Newt... Try it yourself... start small... We have to pray and act. I have lots of info I can send you, etc...

I was mistaken and dead bang wrong. Faux misled me. It was a replay of his presser.

Dumb ole me....

Yes. I was mistaken and dead bang wrong. I originally watched CNN, so when Faux said Newt’s speech was coming up soon, I didn’t realize it was a replay of his presser.

Dumb ole me.

Also, Newt’s campaign is one of the few, if not the only one, that will take 5-dollar contributions,
********************
Yeah, I noticed that and it shocked me, honestly. I was also shocked that the preset radio was on 20?25?—anyhow, the lower end. It actually made me feel less pressured.

It also is really nice because it seems nowadays all these hugely wealthy donors/backers makes one think perhaps my piddly few dollars won’t matter or count.

I think it helps keeps one feeling a part of the whole process. Anyhow, I appreciated that when I saw it.

Yes, I know it is evil to say the r-word on conservative sites but the truth is, some of the very rich are pushing us out of our political process with money.

Money is behind Romney, not just his own—it was pointed out in an article today—Romney only gets 9% via small individual contributions and Gingrich 49% is sm individual donations.

Heck, they want everyone to leave the field after Fl and declare Romney king of republicans with only FOUR states (states racing and changing dates to be earlier than the next) deciding it for all of us. That also offers those states an unfair advantage— favored attention because of their importance in the process, if we allow this travesty to continue.

Before NV, if the delegates were allotted as prescribed, Gingrich would have been ahead, so it wasn’t just donors, either. It was VOTERS, in higher numbers than 2008 for the districts Gingrich carried, lower than 2008 for the ones Romney carried.

I don’t think that is class warfare, I think it is a reasonable and realistic discussion to be had if the less privileged/wealthy average-Joe wants to remain relevant in electing of our president.

There is a problem and it really needs to be addressed. Redistricting all the time is a problem too. They are stealing our voting privileges from us and we have been letting BOTH of these parties do this for too long.

No, we don’t get clubbed and beat up trying to vote, they don’t need to do that...we are giving our privilege away.

Gads, I got carried away...sorry.

That’s absurd, considering Santorum’s vote doesn’t all go to Newt if he drops out - it splits, whereas all of Newt’s vote pretty much would go to Santorum.

So Santorum voters have Romney in reserve, and Newt voters are conservatives, fighting against Romney.

46.6% reporting:

Romney = 42.6%

Gingrich = 26%

Paul = 18.5%

Santorum = 13%

I don’t know how many delegates Newt will pick up tonight.

I didn’t engage in those threads. I met Governor Perry in person and liked him right away. Sad that he jumped into the race unprepared for the national stage. Good solid Christian conservative, but stumbled early on.

Santorum’s run has always been a vanity. Losing senator from PA. Arrogant and full of himself. Picked off in a landslide by a pro-life democrat.

no, don’t apologize, it was a very interesting read. Newt’s campaign has a real different feel to it - And he really invites his supporters to be with him... not for him.

At his site, he has a page where you can offer your own Executive Order idea for one of the orders he will be signing on Day One...

I am still working on mine, but it’s about repealing all the local and state laws that say restaurants, bakeries, fastfood places, diners, vegetable/fruit vendors, etc, can’t give their day-old or best-by-this-date foods to missions, shelters, charities for the poor and putting in place a forensic food licensing program and class, which staff already on board at local charities adn churches can take.

Once they’ve passed and know how to test food that could be questionable, and okay or reject it, they can get that food out into the community with its own consume-by date...

dunkin donuts alone throws millions of doughnuts away each day... I firmly believe a large part of america’s hunger problem could be solved by getting between good food headed for the dumpster, and salvaging that which is good if used promptly....

Newt makes you feel part of what he’s doing... and what you are doing for America and then it becomes important to vote and protect your privilege.. I hope you will consider getting involved...

Airlines do the same daily, food is mostly micro-wave quality but sometimes it is not and minute-maid orange juice and little cartons of milk! Ice cold, nothing wrong with it, not expired, on the plane iced for a day. The waste is sometimes stunning! I like your idea and thanks for the E.O. tip, I didn’t see that.

I’ve been away from the news a couple days and didn’t read any other comments in this thread, but this has to be among the stupidest headlines I’ve read this year. Who in the world ever seriously thought Newt would drop out because of a loss in Mormon-heavy Nevada, a state Romney carried in 2008 and was surely going to him this time? Just a couple days ago, Newt was talking about riding this thing all the way to the convention floor, and I think he’s serious about that. Whatever rumor there may have been out there probably came from the same source that said Trump would be endorsing Newt.

So glad to hear it. All respect to Jim Rob, I don’t get why Newt doesn’t scare the crap out of Freepers. He’s a Woodrow Wilson fan for Pete’s sake. I don’t get what the Teaparty is doing with Newt. Santorum should be the Not-Romney.

That’s not true. Newt has no use for Woodrow Wilson. Do you listen to Glenn Beck?

the counties Newt won in Florida were the ones where turnout was increased, and Willard Your Worst Nightmare only won the counties where turnout was decreased..

Interesting! They were actually commenting at my polling place (here in Florida in a county Romney won) on how low the turnout was, and it wasn't just because of early voting.

There was a real Romney media blitz here, not to mention the thousands of signs his campaign put up overnight, and I suspect some people were simply disheartened because he was already being proclaimed the winner. That technique works, unfortunately.

That’s OK, there is a man who has been a bishop in his church and a president of a group of those churches, why he’s been misleading lots of people. In fact he’s been tall tails and out right lies about a lot a things and silent ones about others. Mitt Romney is his name.
