Gingrich says he will not drop out of the race tonight [Nevada LIVE THREAD]

Newt Gingrich will stay in the Republican presidential nomination contest despite an expected loss to Mitt Romney in Saturday’s Nevada caucuses, the former speaker told The Washington Times late Saturday afternoon.

“We had excellent fundraising meetings and calls yesterday,” Mr. Gingrich said. “Super Tuesday and beyond look good.”

The Georgia native thus dispelled rumors circulating in the press that his campaign had scheduled a press conference for late Saturday, after the results were in from the Nevada caucuses.

“We will probably be a solid second here with [Rick] Santorum in last place,” Mr. Gingrich said, while acknowledging indirectly that attracting donors and voters in sufficient force to overtake Mr. Romney will be a challenge in the coming weeks.

Santorum has two big donors.

One of those doners is a guy named Dr. John M. Templeton Jr.
.

Templeton has close ties to Romney.

In any even, so far Romney has defeated them in the primaries where he has won by more than both of their vote totals combined, so even if 100% of Santorum’s vote would have gone to Newt (which it would not have, not anywhere close), calling him “Rick Perot” is absurd.

I don't think just adding up the non-Mitt vote is dispositive -- the "addition" or subtraction of a candidate changes the dynamics of the campaign. In this case, with Santorum in the race, Newt is mostly fighting a two-front war.

Santorum should be the Not-Romney.

Ok, He can be the not-Romney who is running w/Romney to defeat Newt. WAKE UP!

Mr anti-abortion is working w/pro-abortion mitt! You know - those great family men. Lying and deceiving are the 'new' conservative traits.

INteresting...Sure the MSM will pick that up first thing in the AM
Just like the told us that Jon Huntsman is Mitt’s cousing and that the Huntsman family fortune is intertwined with Bain/Romney.

Again, my observation that is as unpleasant to me as to anyone else, is not meant to be an "attack," although I suppose it may be taken that way. I read the stuff on FR in 2008 and none of it convinced me otherwise. I wanted Thompson, but I was angry with him, selfishly I suppose. Nevertheless, he had his reasons, like Plain did.

What is truly bizarre IMO is that the best conservative candidates (Thompson, Palin, Cain) in the last two GOP primaries have been taken out by something other than their strength of voter support.

Ok, so I get on here this a.m. and the vote is STILL NOT IN???

WHAT are they doing with these votes?

This is so fraudulent seeming ...anything can be done in this long of a time w/ this vote. I don’t even trust the results — and they’re coming out of Vegas? Right.

Oh, and Mitt still doesn’t have the majority. He will NEVER have the majority.

Let's see...

I believe that if Florida and the RNC had followed the party's own rules, that Gingrich would be leading in the delegate count right now, not Romney, with Santorum in third place.

The question is this: Why is the RNC so loose with the rules in Florida so as to give ALL the delegates to Romney, while simultaneously being so rigid with the rules in Virginia, so as to keep Gingrich off of the ballot entirely?

Can you say "manufactured popularity" for Romney?

Thank you FR,

You are correct!

My observations, while watching the media and some Freepers, has been when Romney attacks, it’s now Newt Gingrich has to ‘bone up’ with these allegations. (It is all on Newt Gingrich now kinda thing)
Then when Gingrich shows the lies that were brought forth on him it’s “he is Whining, not handling it right, looking bad”.

I think he should be balanced as he was this last media conference, Remind the people of the lies and poor taste Romney showed then comment on Romney’s stupid remark
about the poor and not worried about them. Gingrich gave a great analogy about a trampoline, perfect!
The one reporter tried to pin him on something and got the Gingrich smack down. Loved it!

No he did not come off whining He came off SMART and spot on. People need to watch more of his video’s and see what a man he really is not the man Rom-wit, the media, and the Rebublican-E are trying to present.

Newt Gingrich has a huge battle to fight but he is NOT a lone.

GO NEWT GINGRICH!

So you are just discounting the voters in New Hampshire, Florida and Nevada? We should just write off those voters and pretend they didn’t vote the way they did?

“100% of Santorum’s vote would have gone to Newt (which it would not have, not anywhere close)”

Not anywhere close... Really raises the eye brow.

So we have Romney, Ron Paul left to vote for IF as you say Santorum’s voters won’t vote for Newt Gingrich.

WHO WILL they vote for? ROMNEY?, Throw their vote away and vote for RON PAUL?

Either one I guess you believe these Santorum voter’s are either nuts or not True Conservatives as they say they are?

I don’t think so. THEY ARE TRUE CONSERVATIVES!
AND I believe they DO NOT WANT ROMNEY.
