Woman Tasered in Front of Daughter After Cutting McDonalds Drive-Thru Line (flopped like a fish)

Woman Tasered in Front of Daughter After Cutting McDonalds Drive-Thru Line
By Olivia Katrandjian | ABC News Blogs – 17 hrs ago

**SNIP**

Employees at the McDonalds in Hope Mills, N.C., refused to serve Evangeline Lucca and told her to go to the back of the line. Lucca, 37, refused to move, and blocked the drive-thru for 20 minutes before police arrived on the scene, authorities said.

When deputies arrived, Lucca was "defiant," "would not get off McDonalds property," and was "threatening the deputies," according to Debbie Tanna, a public information officer for the Cumberland County Sherriff's Office.

**SNIP**

"Two or three officers entered the car with her and started trying to forcibly drag her out of the car, and that's when you could hear the clicking sound of the Taser one time," Rich told the Fay Observer. "They pulled on her a couple of times, and then they Tased her again, and when they Tased her the second time, she just flopped out of the car like a fish."

Your answer is of course the correct one. One other thing I would reccommend is to put a curb in there so no one can cut the line.

There will always be one who will try this. It wouldn’t make any sense to be one if you couldn’t act like one.

Even the US Supreme Court has people that go to drive-ups.

Discretion is so, so the better part of valor. Serve her whilst calling the cops from the back room. If lucky the cops will catch her on the lot, if not she is ID’d by license plate. Either way she loses and innocent customers win.

I agree, but oddly enough on a similar thread a couple of days ago, I expressed a similar sentiment about some jerk who was tased for letting his dogs run loose in a park and then walking away from the ranger who was going to give him a ticket. I was excoriated for expressing such a sentiment. I can only conclude that most of the posters were also inconsiderate dog owners who allow their four legged yappy sh!t factories to run loose on other peoples’ property and in public parks

Seeing her get tazed would have been worth the wait. There are far too many the-rules-apply-to-everyone-but-me types in this country. Now we need to vote the #1 perpetrator of this behavior out of the White House.

She didn’t get zapped for cutting in line. She got zapped for refusing to comply with LEO.

If they’d have already served her and she left, LEO would have no reason to stop her, would they?

That would not make her un-guilty of disorderly conduct. I disagree. The employees could make the report at leisure instead of inconveniencing all the innocent customers. Suppose she had simply left after sitting there ten minutes but before the cops came. Wouldn't that be the same position if your argument applied? (Which it does not.)

In this case they knew what they needed to do to get her to move on AND to see she was called to accountability with the law. They didn’t. Maybe corporate stupid rule said they couldn’t.

Then the US Supreme Court should understand that the police are dealing with the peoblem and if they have an issue the quickest way to resolve it is to go inside and order. Law before burgers.

If the people in line do not know what the problem is then why look for a plate number, or wait for the problem to leave the scene only to repeat later. You deal with the problem while it’s happening. Even Supreme Court employees should understand this. Go inside.

I would think that rule would mean don’t go out and deal with the difficult customer. I don’t know that however. Alternately they could close the pick up window and take money at the order window. Yes, it would be difficult for them, but it would serve their customers. (Do this having called the cops of course). My thought is that if they serve her and call the cops she will be long gone and the cops will have to go to her house or pull her over somewhere simply to accuse her of cutting in line and to tell her not to do it again. I doubt if this is a big negative to someone who is willing to sit there for such a long time and to still be so adamant when the cops show up there. She would have already gotten the reward she wanted which was not the food itself, but being first in line and bullying and getting her way. It still “worked” from her point of view. Classical conditioning. Punishment after the fact is less effective than is removal of reward. The punishment of talking to the cops later on is so far removed from the behavior at that point that it isn’t very powerful to someone so “off”. To a normal person, maybe yes, this would be a deterrent. She seems far from normal.

So, you think it should have happened like this: lady cuts in line, McDonalds says "Don't do that again!" but serves her anyway. Lady leaves because she was served and McDonalds is supposed to call the cops and say a lady took cuts in the drive-thru line, here is her license plate number. I wouldn't think the police would spend 2 seconds trying to find this lady.

Just phone police and let them take care of the unruly customer afterwards, with disorderly conduct charges or whatever.

In theory, you're right. But the woman would just deny everything. Without a cop as a witness, it just becomes a he said, she said kind of thing.

And of course the woman's daughter would back her up.

If McDonalds had done as you suggested, I could easily see the woman getting off. Then would come an expensive lawsuit against McDonalds.

Agree. The cops are not going to now start pulling people over who have cut in line. Absent the refusal to comply and absent the traffic situation (maybe) that was being created in the moment, her offense would not be different than any other line-cutter.

We MUST immediately pass a law to regulate behavior there.

What? Are you nuts? We must regulate and drastically reduce the number of Mickey D's locations, limit the number if McNuggets to two per purchase, and only one purchase per month, with a 15 day "cooling off" period. Additionally we should outlaw assault pistol grip hot dogs and assault hamburgers that allow relish and ketchup to be easily attached, and come down hard on straw purchases.

Yeah, and no more hamburger "shows" in those food courts. We can get this under control if we all will just anonymously tip on those McD's that try to skirt the law.

If this lady had a habit, as the story says, of cutting into line, then this needed to be done.If I had been stuck behind it I would have been pissed too, but watching this "broad" get zapped would have made it worth the wait.

Eventually she would have cut in on someone with an attitude similar to her own and how might that headline read? "Shootout at McDonald's drive thru results in death of toddler."

what options does that leave LEO with a combative person on their hands?

Since we don't have a picture, we don't know if this was someone 5'0" 120 lbs, or one that was 6'+ and over 300.

Myself, think a good knot on the noggin from a nightstick would have done the job nicely, but people don't like that approach either.

I enjoy seeing arrogant people get what they deserve. I hope this taught her daughter, but something tells me she’ll sue.

I'm reminded of how I handled an arrogant and snotty nosed long haired line cutter with an attitude at an amusement park back in the early eighties. He and two of his little chickadee babes thought they were going to cut in on me and my family while waiting in an hour+ long line to ride the park roller coaster ride.

I first said excuse me son but line cutting isn't allowed and pointed to a sign just ahead saying as such and would he please go back to the end of the line like all of the rest of us did. He just ignored me. The next time I tapped him on his shoulder politel like and in a more authoritative and firm voice repeated my request, now becoming a demand. No park officers to be seen anywhere wouldn't you know.

Apparently my tapping him on his shoulder set him off. He spun and slapped my hand away and said to never lay a finger on him again. Oooops, nuff said. I instinctly reacted by cold cocking on his jaw and he instantly folded like a sack of dropped potatoes. His two teenie bopper girlfriends started shrieking and grab their brave BF and dragged him out of the line. One even apologized for him.

To my surprise I got a very warn round of applause with several congratulatory slaps on the back adding that the little punk got what he deserved. Of course today I would have been hauled away in manacles and charged with a crime. Back then men were expected to act like men and not wimpy hen pecked girly-men like we have today. Was I proud of what I did? No. But was I ashamed? Heck NO!

There are so many people that have the entitlement mentality. Cut in line, you must vote for me, get out of my way “don’t you know who I am”...etc. It’s all getting quite stale. This woman was wrecking it for everyone behind her. I don’t think she’ll do it again, and I doubt the little weasel you dealt with ever did it again either. :)

As humorous as this may be to many people, I believe that law enforcement (of any kind) is becoming too free with the use of tasers. The idea that since it's supposedly "non-lethal," then it's okay, has to stop.

The story of the elderly man in Marin who was tased by a park ranger for walking his dogs off-leash shows how far over the line policing has gotten with the use of tasers.

Can one envision a time when it won't be long before we move to a corporal punishment system where public tasing will replace public lashing as a form of punishment for crimes handed down by our courts?

The employee told him the woman frequently comes to the restaurant and cuts in line, and that, “We’re not having it anymore, so we called the cops,” Rich said.

They're not playing her game anymore.

I can't stand people who start screaming and making a public scene when they don't get their way.

I saw the trashiest behavior at WalMart one after noon with 4 women (3 employees & 1 customer) cussing, making threats, yelling, sticking their fingers in each others faces and bobbing their heads side to side at the cash registers in front of the store. The area was busy and we had to listen to this B.S.

Sorry to rain on your parade here bud but please pray tell just what are the cops going to do to this whiny spoiled little beetch if they even bother to go looking for her upon following your advice? Pray tell again what crime did she commit to warrant a man hunt for her afterwords? No the McD' employees did the right thing and I applaud them and the responding officers actions. SERVE the b*tch (so she leaves the window) but ALSO call the cops on her surreptitiously.

Call the cops on her for what?

If there is a law against cutting in line at McDonalds, I'm not aware of it. There is, however, a law against trespassing.

If they serve her, she leaves, and she is not trespassing. She gets away with this again and will continue to do it in the future.

If they do not serve her, ask her to leave and she doesn't, then she is trespassing and they can call the cops.

I'm with others on this; I'm happy McDonalds took a stand and I hope the woman and her daughter learned a lesson from it. I'd have been happy to be one of the customers caught waiting in line to learn what went down.

I’m picturing it was done much the same way as something I witnessed: I was driving down 8 Mile in Detroit, coming up to a “Michigan turn” (a turn around at the light, which has a median strip). A line was forming because of the red light and evidently this woman in a huge SUV didn’t feel like waiting for the light like everyone else and drove up over the curb, across the median and down the other curb into the nearest lane of west-bound traffic.

I was working at Oktoberfest which was in a city park meaning no dogs. A woman came up with a great dane looking dog and and tried to pay while ignoring me and talking to her friends. I told her about 5 times that a city ordinance prevented dogs from being where food was served. My boss came over and said, “the city doesn’t want your dog sh*tting where people are eating..”
The lady was about to protest when her dog sh*tted right next to the line. But did she clean it up? No,a city worker had to.
I agree 100% with you, people don’t dislike dogs, they dislike their owners who thinks that dogsh*t is no big deal..

What’s most disturbing to me about this is all the FReepers piling on in approval.

I get it, you’re mad about someone cutting in line at McDonald’s. Huge injustice, entitlement society, it happened to you at Burger King, etc.

So that makes it OKAY for a police officer to use a TASER on a citizen, in violation of the laws of every state?

Because you can’t use a weapon on someone for failing to comply. Of course the cops are saying she “threatened” them. With what? A McNugget?

What kind of chicken-s***, lazy-a** cops can’t handle a woman in a car without resulting to the use of a LETHAL weapon? (Tell all the relatives of people who’ve been tased to death that they’re “non-lethal.”)

If they had hit her with a baton, would you still be high-fiving each other? Yeah, I didn’t think so.

Cops are out of control. And it’s way past time for every state to ban tasers.

I can't believe some of the responses in this thread - the ones that are along the lines of "just serve her and keep the line moving."

When people are allowed to engage in arrogant and uncivil behavior like this and get away with it because it is "too inconvenient" to others to deal with it correctly, then our society begins to break down.

When there are no consequences for being an arrogant jerk, more arrogant jerks are created.

I'm having a hard time picturing that as well. Every drive through line I've ever been in has been bumper to bumper as it moves along. She must be one heck of an aggressive driver.

I actually not having a hard time picturing it. Unless you drive a hooptie or don't mind getting your car banged up, your going to let people in front of you to avoid contact. This person figured that out and decided to take advantage of it.
