Romney tops 50 percent, Gingrich edges out Paul for second in final Nevada tally

LAS VEGAS – Nevada Republicans early Monday released the final results of their Saturday morning caucuses.

As projected, Mitt Romney easily won for a second time after his 2008 victory in the state. Romney finished with 50 percent.

Newt Gingrich came in second with 21.1 percent, edging out Ron Paul who had 18.7 percent. Paul won second place in Nevada in 2008. Rick Santorum finished last with 9.9 percent.

The results came nearly two days after voters began casting ballots Saturday morning.

GOP officials blamed the delay on voting discrepancies and the old-fashioned voting method of handwritten ballots.

It took a couple of days to give Mitt that 50%.

32,963 voted in 2012.

44,000 voted in 2008.

Hopefully, those voters moved to Texas and found work.

.......”A lot of the Clark County voters are angry because of work and other commitments because of what they say happened at various caucus locations throughout the valley.

Some voters who showed up to Shadow Ridge, Mojave and Green Valley High Schools to caucus claim they were given unofficial ballots.

Tempers also flared during the evening caucus session at the Adeleson Education Campus.

Organizers said the sundown caucus was only open to Orthodox Jews and others who’s religions prohibited them from attending a daytime caucus.

Others who missed the early caucus because of work or other commitments were turned away from the evening session unable to vote.

The Clark County Republican Party says it plans to look into all complaints and will review the entire caucus process.”

Not when you consider what we have to choose from. . . . . . . AGAIN.

It wasn’t that. It was because the republican party did absolutely nothing to let the voters know where the caucuses would be or when. Supposedly the problem was a lack of money but I can’t help but wonder a little if this was deliberate.

Apparently, they had many problems in 2008 and were going to fix them.....

I thought Bishop Romney would have been above 50% in Nevada. Hmmmm, maybe the Mormons labor unions in Vegas aren't all that happy with swapping Brother Harry for Bishop Romney.

Since 2008 was such a debacle....people assumed the same thing this year when no one was given information on when and where the caucus was in their towns. If they DID find out it was 9AM on a Sat..... many people with kids couldn't make it as well as many casino workers were left not knowing anything or unable to take part...and hence why any local media caucus footage I saw here in Reno... 90% of the participators were over age 60!

A close friend is a Rep Party volunteer and said flat out that it seemed to her that 'some' people of certain candidates were told places and times and other people for other candidates did not get the information until the last minute....leaving her to think the Rep Party wanted to skew the votes a particular way. She said there was a lot of things done behind close doors...whereas it wasnt done like that in the past....

Its interesting too that state officials came out blantantly saying that the state was 'too cheap' to pay for a primary so we get a crappy caucus instead..... Democracy at its finest.....

Results for Nevada Republican Caucus (U.S. Presidential Primary)
Feb 04, 2012 (71% of precincts reporting)

Mitt Romney 11,822 47.6%
Newt Gingrich 5,623 22.7%
Ron Paul 4,619 18.6%
Rick Santorum 2,749 11.1%
Other 0 0%

Just because 12,000 or so mormon cultists in Nevada voted for their high priest doesn’t mean he is the nominee.

This is a WAR, and will be fought one battle at a time.

Bishop Romney is running out of mormon states.

Good. Why should the taxpayers get stuck paying for what is an internal party function?

I just saw an article in the MSM about how in a head to head, Romney probably won’t beat Obama.

Now that they have him installed, they know that Obama can beat him. Every four years the republican electorate falls for this - putting in the candidate the elite RINOs anoint, because “a real conservative can’t possibly win” - and then watching in confusion while these inadequates can’t seem to beat the most flawed Dems.

Ford Ran as RINO Loss
Reagan Ran as Strong Conservative Landslide
Reagan Ran as Strong Conservative Landslide
Bush Sr Ran as Conservative Win
Bush Sr Ran as RINO (raised taxes) Loss
Dole Ran as RINO Loss
Bush Jr Ran as Conservative Bare Win
Bush Jr Ran as Conservative Win
McCain Ran as RINO Loss

It’s just so clear. Now they are saddling us with another milquetoast, spit em out RINO. I remember Crist. I remember what he did. Crist’s people are running Mitt’s campaign, by the way. Not at all sure I can even vote for him.

The point is....the caucus was run inappropriately (twice in a row) hence no oversight. They are still counting ballots in Clark County because of irregularities. Not sure what the answer here is...but this certainly is not working out too well.

Apparently, the distribution of delegates is determined later (?).

I found this at Wikipedia (there are no working links in the chart). "Projected delegate" numbers are from various media networks.

"The results, announced by the Nevada Republican Party Monday Feb. 6th, shortly after 4am EST, on its website and also on Twitter (@NVVoteCount), prior to certification were as follows:"

in 2012 he received 6163 votes less than he received in 2008. His popularity seems to have waned in Nevada. McCain came in third in 2008 and got the nomination anyways btw so this victory is pretty meaningless although Fox news and Mitt Romney would like to have us all believe otherwise. Go Newt!

The "Big Win" meme seems to be the headline of choice. Followed by all their "Newt's toast" talking points.

“It’s just so clear.”

Do you think if Romney loses to Obama, that will be enough to convince conservatives they must get involved in the political system?
