Carrying a gun for defense should not be an issue(WA)

The headline reads “Mount Rainier shooting revives gun debate ...” (Sunday, Jan. 29, 2012).

What debate? Self-defense is not debatable. Whether you are in a national park, a parking lot, or on a school ground or college campus, you must be aware of your surroundings and be capable of neutralizing any threat to your safety by any means at your immediate disposal.

For some reason an H&N writer apparently feels there is some problem with the new law that permits lawful carry of concealed defensive firearms in state, local and national parks. Citing a shooting death in Washington’s Mount Rainier National Park by a disturbed veteran of the Mideast conflicts, there is a meek attempt to establish a nexus between the lawful carrying of a defensive firearm by a properly licensed citizen and a killer bent on the destruction of human life. The journalistic technique of guilt by association attempts to persuade the gullible reader there is some plausible relationship between lawful and unlawful use of firearms.

As is the norm, nothing happened that day with those who are lawfully licensed to carry a concealed firearm in national parks or anywhere else. It is resented by them and other thinking citizens that there are those who continually stoke the fire of gun control for whatever reason despite there being no justification or supporting data that a problem even exists.

Perhaps the situation would have had different results if the murdered ranger had been armed with her service weapon that she was trained and authorized to wear.

A good letter. Letters to the editor are one of the most read parts of a newpaper.

It makes me sick that the 2nd amendment is infringed upon in some states/localities like Washington D.C., New York, New Jersey, California to name a few.

What they really need to do is place a sign at the entrance to each park that reads, “Please Do Not Kill The Rangers”.

Anybody remember Meredith Emerson, who was kidnapped by a maniac in a park in Georgia, then decapitated?

Libtards never cease to amaze me with their illogic.

Floyd is one of the good guys around here. Big-time local NRA supporter. You see him at every gun show and NRA banquet.

Go, Floyd!
