GOP voters belie Gingrich’s claim to conservative mantle
Washington Times ^ | 02/05/2012 | Seth Mclaughlin

Newt Gingrich says he is the conservative choice in the 2012 presidential race, but five states into the campaign, Mitt Romney has won more self-identified conservative voters, according to an analysis by The Washington Times of entrance and exit polls.

Mr. Romney capped off that showing with a win in Nevada that included support from a majority of self-identified conservatives, a feat neither Mr. Gingrich nor the other two remaining candidates have been able to accomplish.

“He may be more conservative than Romney, but that does not mean that he is winning over more conservative voters,” said Mark Rozell, a political science professor at George Mason University. “The primary voters are not aligning themselves solely on the basis of ideology. They are looking as well to electability, character, leadership ability, among other factors. So being to the right of the front-runner is not enough to convince conservative voters to pick a Gingrich.”

Funny that you said that because Byron York is just discussing that right now on FOX.

Voter turnout hasn’t been good. He says the negative battles are starting to take a toll on enthusiam.

In my state, it really doesn’t matter. Our primary is in May.

By then, we will probably know the lay of the land.

I sure hope you are right. I can’t bear the thought of another Obama term.

The low turnout is because people aren’t thrilled with the choices we have. When it gets super negative, it only makes the choices look even worse. LOL

Mitt Romney is more like Thomas E. Dewey, who thought that simply because he WASN’T a Democrat, he would be the easy winner in 1948.

Mittens is a Democrat. He's just registered as a Republican. A marriage of convenience, nothing else. Once the nomination is secured he will swing left and the truth will be revealed. My jaw dropped with the defense of the Individual Mandate, the class warfare arguments and (shockingly) the defense of auto-increase of the minimum wage. I sense thath is only just the tip of the iceberg.

Mitt Romney LOOKS more Presidential than Newt Gingrich. You're right! That's it!. Mitt the twit will win because even though he'll never go after obama, will ignore any issues that he can slam der Fuehrer on, and isn't in any way a conservative; HE HAS EXECUTIVE HAIR! He can buy the nomination and looks good doing it so he is the one. What a load!

Yup. There was a reason why women weren't allowed to vote at one time. And ever since television and the Nixon/Kennedy debate, it hasn't been the same. Ike never would have won under that scenario, except that he was running against Adelai Stevenson, who had even LESS hair.

Your comment on women voting with their hormones/fantasies is exactly how we got the kennedy mythology.

Stevenson had one more thing going against him; he was a plain label, uninspired stump.
